I’m on a Mac using the Sequoia OS (not ready to update yet to Tahoe). I recently left Microsoft Outlook, my e-mail client for years, because of all the crashing and when I would update, all the stored e-mails disappeared. I am now using Apple Mail and the export function doesn’t work most of the time. Apple tech support did some things that told me they are automatic backups, but I can’t see them.

I use Thunderbird on an old PC and would like to also use it on my Mac. However, when attempting to import, it starts and finishes in about one second, importing nothing. The files are in .mbox format. What am I doing wrong trying to import these files?

Transfer from Outlook to TB works fine and I see all messages. Then I copy the Outlook Import.sbd file to flash drive and drag to the desktop on my MAC. It imports into Apple mail and the folders show but I can't see any messages. Checking in Finder the file contains over 2 GB of data but apparently the format is still off. I have tried several times to no avail!

I haven't yet searched other messages for the occurrence.

What has happened? I need the original texts restored, and also to prevent any future recurrence.

Please help me. I've spent all day trying to connect Thunderbird to Gmail. I've followed the advice on here (disable two-step verification, enable apps with less security), I've uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird, I've even changed my Gmail password but none of it works. I've got Thunderbird on my other computer and it works fine. The server settings I am using on both computers are the same. Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong before I give up completely? Please use very simple language as I'm not an IT expert. Many thanks

As far as I can determine, the newer MSN mail/explorer no longer has an export option. The only thing you can do is print the list, and I did so to a PDF file, but first wasted a LOT of printer paper. As near as I can tell, the file format is a bit hard to convert to just a CSV file, other than by hand, which would take a very long time. I started doing it on Excel but it would take a very, very long time. So, I'd even be willing to pay for a service/program that would be able to generate a CSV file in Thunderbird format. I'd appreciate any help or ideas. Please note that MSN has changed; anything that you google or so far in Thunderbird help, will not work as there is no longer an export function. I'd be thrilled to know I missed something! Sheila

Hopefully nearing the end of a long saga. Used Comcast email and T'bird for many years. In November I wanted to add a new address to Comcast and that's when my troubles began - it was like quicksand: passwords, and more passwords etc. it became worse and worse and ... worse! I gave up on Comcast and opened Yahoo and iCloud email addresses and engaged Apple Mail. I've used Macs since about 1985 and used individual apps for browsing, mail, office suite etc. I'm used to having an "Address Book" as part of a mail program; Apple Mail has no address book their Mail reads "Contacts" for an address - very nice if one is using an iPhone but not so on my desktop Mac - so I return to Thunderbird which I'm used to. We oldies single task - it's like driving 25 MPH.

Today Matt helped with the correct authentication method to get my T'bird logged on to Yahoo, now to the rest of it:

I need to unfreeze T'bird's opening page which shows a Nov. 18 email as the newest message - I can't click the page away, only scroll to older messages. I sent myself a message today but it doesn't appear as a received message. Could the Mailbox be at capacity? I'm running T'bird v115.6.0 on Mac OS 13.6.3 and it was OK until I poked the hornets' nest.

Any thoughts are appreciated

I have a number of emails from a totally trusted source (UK customer services at John Lewis) that cause Thunderbird to hang with the "Printing - Progress: Preparing" box showing when I try to print them. This then becomes "Printing (Not Responding)" after a while. I have to shut it down and restart TB. Thunderbird itself has no problem displaying the emails on the screen, but since they are receipts / invoices / order acknowledgements, this is one of the rare times I need hard copy for my records. Restarting in safe mode has no effect. They typically appear to have 3 large blocks of code and nothing much else, apart from the headers. A typical block starts :-

It would appear that John Lewis encode all their financial type emails in this fashion. The emails are relatively large, 33 & 66Kb, with images when viewed on the screen. I would append the whole of one of them to this post, but since they contain sensitive information I am loath to do so.

I'm running Thunderbird 52.1.1 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
