I do NOT want to be annoyed all the time! How do I turn the bloody thing off?

I'm sure there's an option somewhere.

Thanks.

For a long time I used a known method to disable the mouseover to reveal the address/toolbar while in fullscreen. It is described here link text and works via adding this line

  1. fullscr-toggler { display:none !important; }

in userChrome.css and enabling userChrome.css at about:config page. However it stopped working for me. I am currently with Firefox 85.0.

Hi all, I had a weird problem

I'm a bit of a noob to Unix so I don't know how much information I can or should give & a lot of this is from memory, apologies for the length of this

I'm using Zorin 15.3 (64 bit) it's basically Ubuntu, on a Dell Precision T1700 with 7.7Gb RAM, Intel® Core™ i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz × 8, Quadro K600/PCIe/SSE2 graphics

And I also use Thunderbird 78.7.0 (64-bit), ubunti-snap-build - 1.0, on the release channel

Thunderbird updates are disabled by the system administrator, all my updates come via the Software Updater tool

So far so good, system has been working well for about a year now

A couple of days ago I was working on something when I decided to check mail

So I clicked on the thunderbird icon, I normally leave it open & it's pinned to to the toolbar, and instead of opening I got a popup

OK, my bad, I should have been paying attention to the popup, but I was neck deep in something else & didn't give it the attention it deserved before dismissing it, sorry

Then I noticed I had 2 Thunderbird icons on the task bar, clicking the second one let me see my email

I couldn't find anything on line about having 2 Thunderbird instances running

So as this wasn't normal, I dropped everything I was doing & rebooted, that's when my problems really started

Opening Thunderbird I couldn't see any emails, digging around I found I had 2 profiles one was <randomnumber>.default the other was <randomnumber>.default-beta

I guess the 2nd profile was created when I thought I dismissed the popup, I must read them in future

Now I don't know how to swap profiles, but I do know how to copy them for backups

So I renamed the ".default-beta" profile & replaced it with the ".default" profile

This let me see & use email

Then I noticed I couldn't open links in emails, I couldn't even open Thunderbird help with F1

Looking in Preferences > Files & Attachments, I could see a setting for HTTPS, but I couldn't get it to use my browser

So I decided to use the nuclear option

I backed up my profile, removed & then reinstalled Thunderbird using the Software tool

And just to be sure I ran the Software Updater, which said there were no updates

So as far as I'm aware the version I installed from the store was the same version I was running before so copying the profile back should pretty much restore everything

Not so, starting Thunderbird got me a popup again, I read this one

It said the profile I was trying to use was created in a later version of Thunderbird & gave me the option of cancelling or creating a new profile

Now I have no idea how I got a later version, Software Updater & the Software tools were telling me I had the latest released version, Thunderbird can update itself but this is disabled, so I've no clue where the later version came from

So I dug around on the web & found no help, nothing I found seemed to match the issue I had

So I got creative, I had very little to lose at this point

I restored the empty profile that this version of Thunderbird created, which let me start Thunderbird, I then had a look at the profile

I worked out where the mail was stored, a subfolder called "Mail" & put a copy of my backup Mail folder in there

That got me my mail

I tried copying my address book & calendar in a similar manner but nothing worked & I eventually ended up putting them back in manually

Now I think I've got everything back & it all seems to work, all I've lost is a bit of time & a few grey hairs

But I'd like to know how this happened in the first place ?

Where did this 2nd instance of Thunderbird come from ?

Is Thunderbird somehow doing developer channel updates or something ?

If it is how do I stop it doing this again ?

Thank you for your patience in reading this, any suggestions will be gratefully received

Sorry to insist, but I'm totally stuck. The lastes TB upgrade has deleted all the messages that I had received, but the file still exists when I open TB, contrary to the sent, draft and trash files which have also disappeared. On the C: drive, the INBOX, SENT, DRAFT and TRASH files have been deleted (or hidden ? or displaced ?) and all I see are .msf files. 3 years' work down the drain. I can no longer receive or send any new messages. This concerns only the mailbox which is on IMAP. I have another mailbox with another address which is on a traditional POP server, and it still works. I tried to understand something to the report, but it is too complex for me to understand what went wrong. I couldn't find any information or solution in the GetHelp section. If I download again TB I fear I might definitely lose everything. Are the deleted files hidden somewhere and retrievable or totally and definitely lost? Or should I use another software more compatible with IMAP? Thanx...

Hi i am experiencing a weird thing for the last 20 days or so.See as part of my work flow i created some folders for the bookmarks and i am bookmarking the pages depending upon the category or folders i created respectively.Somehow for the past 20 days or so when i ever i hit Ctrl+D to save the bookmark its showing the previous folder name in which i saved the earlier bookmark.Previously it used to show blank and from the drop down i used to select the appropriate folder to save the bookmark to the particular folder. Is it a bug or something i need to fix it ?

Note: Please see the attached image i tried to bookmark this particular page and its already showing the previous bookmarked folder. On the attachment I hide it for the privacy sake with red color.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

When creating or opening a calendar entry involving a meeting invite, any links in the the description field are in plain text. Sometimes extremely long strings making it difficult to select and paste into a browser.

Be nice to just be able to click the link. Does Thunderbird calendar support HTML at all? I know I can set the option for HTML in an email msg body, but not it seems in Calendar or Event 'description' fields.

Or am I missing something?

Many thanks in advance,

Terry.

More of a piece of feedback than a question: when opening tabs from a collection (using firefox Beta), it seems that the browser treats this as restoring a previously closed tab rather than opening a new tab and navigating to a site/bookmark. This ... is problematic. And causes some weird behaviour. - Oftentimes (and seemingly at random, can't tell whether this is due to updates or if it just changes at will) tapping a site in a collection causes it to be opened in a background tab, instead going to and refreshing whichever open tab was last displayed before opening the new tab. This makes the new (collection) tab appear at the top of the tab list rather than the bottom, and is overall extremely annoying. - Sites added to a collection seem to remember (some?) previous navigation history, meaning that visiting that site and then navigating "back" to get to the home screen instead navigates to whatever was visited previous to saving the site to the collection. This is entirely consistent for the collection entries where it happens. This is not how an equivalent of a bookmark should work. - Often when opening a site from a collection, it seems that what is opened is a cached version from the previous rather than actually refreshing the site from the web. I previously had this issue for a very long period, before it finally went away, but has recently returned again. Checking a news site or forum and having to remember to refresh it manually after opening is, again, extremely annoying.

Before the latest versions of Tbird 76, if you made a mistake when entering a recipients address in the To: field, you could simply click on the To: address line and use the Backspace key etc. to correct it. Now you can click as much as you want and all you get is that the address is highlighted. This is so annoying. After entering an address, if you wanted to CC to someone, you simply pressed ENTER and it would open a second address line. Now it jumps to the Subject line. It would be logical to at least show a right-click option to add another address but no, now you have only Undo or Paste. The behaviour of the TAB key has also been changed. From the subject line, I want to use Tab ONCE to get into the next field - the body of the email. Instead it appears to tab through the "Variables v" and "Options v" menu names on the right and gawd knows where else, and it isn't until about 5-6 pressing of the TAB key that I finally get to the message body. What is the point of changing something that worked fine to something that requires more time-wasting key presses ? There are no options for changing the behaviour of the Enter or Tab keys in Tbird. Sadly, like everything else "improvements" seem to be steps backwards wasting the time of the user.

And on another note, the Crashes which have been occuring every time I try to add an attachment for the past 18 months, still happen... The only way I can add an attachment without Tbird crashing is by drag and drop.

I am having trouble logging into my bank's website from Firefox. It's worked fine for several years and I have no clue what triggered it all of a sudden. Furthermore, I can log in just fine from various other browsers.

I have Google around on the issue for awhile now, and have troubleshooted several different things based on what I've Googled, such as clearing all site cookies, data, cache, etc. Also I had a pop-up blocker add-on but I removed it and that didn't do anything. Lastly, I tried completely uninstalling Firefox and re-installing it without ANY add-ons, but it still doesn't work.

Details on what happens: I go to the log in page, and I put in my user and password and click to log in, and it does nothing. It just basically refreshes the page, so the page comes back up with blank user and password fields.

Any help/ideas on the matter would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Often, I receive "spoof" emails that purport to be from a reputable source (i.e., Fedex) but actually come from a malicious sender. This is easily seen by checking the sender's email address (usually outside the U.S. with an address that's letters and numbers, or a misspelled version of an actual domain).

I am running Thunderbird 78.7.0. My mailbox displays the sender's name, but not the email address. This is true for ALL senders, whether or not they're in my address book. Is there any way to display the sender's email address?

Thanks in advance for any help.
