I lost some of my bookmarks (I have 19000) when my cat stepped on my keyboard. No problem i make a daily back-up of my bookmarks since they are so precious for me (Thousand of BM are related too my work) It's not the first time I restore and I never encountered any probleme before. This morning, I did the usual but FF crashed and I had to restart my computer a few time. At one point, and I have no clue why, it restored a part of the BM but not the pesonal bar which is the most important since that's where I keep my BM for my research work.

Is the file too big now (It's about 5 Mo) if so why am-i not advise by FF when I save? Otherwise what could be the source of my problem??

When I add a bookmark Firefox puts it in either "Other Bookmarks" or "Bookmarks Menu". Having to hunt in two places for new bookmarks is infuriating. How do I get the programmers to add an option in about:config to remove or disable "Other Bookmarks" so that new bookmarks are just added to "Bookmarks Menu" like they should in a normal world?

I was a little surprised to see that my current computer hasn't reflected the updated bookmarks which I bookmarked on my other computer with being logged into my account as well which I thought would be the case after syncing Firefox on my current computer. I'm not too sure of how to get around this since I checked Firefox on my laptop which I used recently and had the recent bookmarks listed but not on my other computer where I'm on now. Hope you can help me figure out how to get around this outside of trying to sync my information which I haven't had much luck with. Thank you.

I unstalled my old Firefox version without saving my bookmarks. I then installed the current Firefox version and realized that all my bookmarks are gone. I tried already to restore them, it finds the file, but then I cannot import them. The c:\windows.old thing does not work for me. Any other ideas where to look for my old bookmarks? Thanks, Daniela

When I refreshed Firefox because it was running too slowly, I lost all of my bookmarks. Also, I cannot bookmark new pages - teh star does not turn blue and thr=ere is no bookmark listed.

I had my old browser for many years before it was taken out a bad Windows/Microsoft update. I had many passwords & bookmarks that were saved on it. Is it possible to have them brought to this new download. It's been 2 or 3 days since I lost my old download, but it seems like an eternity without them.

Hi, I've just reinstalled Windows on my computer and I've logged in to Firefox to sync my bookmarks. My bookmarks from my previous Firefox install are still in the folder marked "Bookmarks Toolbar", but when I try to show the toolbar itself they are nowhere to be found. When I try to customize my browser layout I can't find the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" and instead the "Import bookmarks" option is available. I can't seem to get my bookmarks into the toolbar itself.

Just updated to the latest version of firefox, is there a simple/easy way to have custom icons to Bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar? None of the add ons I found work! I'd really like it if there was a way to do this. Thanks.

A massive chunk of my bookmarks have not synced to my computer. But they all are still there on my phone. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restating my computer, singing out of all of devices and then signing in again. How do i fix this?

How can I access the Description text field that disappeared from the Firefox bookmarks “Library” window in some relatively recent release (a year or so ago maybe)?

Highlighting any bookmark in the “Library” window currently displays only a “Name”, “Location”, “Tags” & “Keyword” field in the bottom of the window's RH pane but it used to also display a larger, 5th text field called Description (or something similar). Likewise, highlighting any bookmark folder in the “Library” window currently only displays a “Name” field but it used to also display a Description field.

This bookmark Description field was invaluable in storing text notes on what a given bookmark was useful for and, equally importantly, what it wasn't useful for (i.e. when to use a different bookmark). If one has hundreds of bookmarks, this type of information cannot adequately be captured in just the “Name” & “Tags” fields.

I thought perhaps the cat had hit some keyboard shortcut (goodness it would be nice to be able to disable those!) and removed "Bookmark This Page" from the Bookmarks pull-down menu, but based on the number of people asking the same question, I now suspect that the latest Firefox update somehow removed it. I have seen MANY people asking about this, invariably answered with how to work around it being missing by using a tiny blob of an icon (which tiny meaningless blob among many, my not-so-young eyes are not certain - apparently it looks like a star). WE WANT IT BACK. Please put "Bookmark This Page" back where it belongs - in the pulldown menu called "Bookmarks". Or tell us how to put it there ourselves. Leave it in the teeny blob menu also if you like - maybe there's someone out there who actually likes it there. But please, for the love of usability, put that entry back on the list of things you can do from the Bookmarks pull-down menu! Not all of your users are 20-somethings with perfect eyesight!

3-26-21: I just upgraded to the latest version of Firefox and NONE of my bookmarks are available. I've tried all the tips I've found and nothing works. I tried to Restore Bookmarks and get the error: Unable to process the backup file. This is a terrible version of Firefox. I need my Bookmarks. Where did they go?? How do I get them back? I am not a computer expert. I am a user of your product. I should not have to jump through hoops just to get my browser set up the way I had it before. Right now it is a big mess. I've used Firefox for years when other browsers are available. I will dump Firefox if I have to but I would prefer to solve this problem.

I'm Not sure what happened, my laptop updated last night and suddenly all my bookmarks for school and school assignments are GONE! I also now have a folder on my desktop from today(4/21/21)labeled "old firefox data" but it's pretty much empty besides amazon & booking.com which I've never used..

How can I restore all my previous settings? I have SOOO many research links for papers, school based sites, bibliography references, etc not to mention things like discord and other sites to connect with classmates(I'm a ft online college student!) In those bookmarks.

Hi there! Some background info: I have a desktop PC. I just got the newest firefox update. ...Thanks; I hate it. And they've altered the way the bookmarks look. So now the bookmarks drop-down menu is so long that I have to scroll down to see everything on it, (I didn't have to before). And what's worse is that sometimes one moment it will be over the Windows taskbar that's at the bottom of my screen and suddenly it will disappear UNDER the taskbar where I can't see everything and I struggle to access anything with my mouse. It's SO aggravating. How do I fix this??

I lost all faith in Firefox a few years ago after a botched upgrade ruined it, so I downgraded and stopped upgrading entirely. The new interface is garbage, and I hate it. Everything HAS to be a distracting theme. Stupid.

But I'm finally trying to upgrade anyway for security reasons. When I try to use the new version of Firefox, I try to import my bookmarks, and only the bookmarks NOT inside the Bookmarks Toolbar import. Obviously, this means I can't upgrade, and I sure as hell am not risking upgrading this browser directly, since I have zero faith in Mozilla these days.

My question to Mozilla: Why can't we just import directly from another version of Firefox like I could if I'd been smart enough to use Chrome instead? And I receive a bloody warning when I open it, telling me to either create a new profile or quit, so there isn't even an option to import my bookmarks directly! I'm honestly thinking about just dropping you for Chrome at this point. It would just be easier.

My question to everyone: WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO to get my bookmarks toolbar imported? I export. I import. NOTHING.

I recently installed the Firefox 88 browser update to fix the problem that Windows would not recognize my Firefox browser in order to make it my default. Upon researching the issue, it stated that I needed to uninstall my old version of Firefox and reinstall the latest version. At the end of the installation before it completed the installation, it asked if I wanted to "Refresh" my browser. I read how it would streamline and speed up my browsing experience and it seemed like a "good" idea. I agreed to the "Refresh" and the browser finished its installation. I checked into setting Firefox as my default browser and Windows recognized it. Great, the re-installation worked.

I then proceeded to open Firefox only to realize that any custom setting, including my 15+ years of bookmarks were gone. I began to panic! I noticed that there was an "Old Firefox Data" file now on my desktop. I looked inside and realized that it contained my old data, including bookmarks, etc. I began searching online for how to get it back into my browser. I have read 7-8 tutorials and 3-4 Youtubes that supposedly fix the problem, but to no avail. Please help as I do not want to lose all my bookmarks and while not computer illiterate, cannot seem to figure out how to get them to reinstall into the new Firefox browser update.

My old computer completely died the other day. I cannot get past a blank screen on open, with no icons or anything. So I bought a new computer and my son installed FF and signed in. (FF is my browser of choice.) Problem is that none of my FF bookmarks show. I turned on sync in the new computer, and the bookmarks bar is showing, it's just blank.

How can I fix this?

So for the second time this month my bookmarks in my toolbar have disappeared. I was signed into my Firefox account both times they went missing. I tired to restore from backup...... nothing. I made sure that the tool bar was enabled.... nothing. I'm so frustrated, as I am in full-time school with three days left in my term and all my textbooks and course sites are GONE!! I don't understand why this keeps happening.
