I have sucessfully migreated from TB68+Eigmail to TB78.8.1 (64-Bit) running under Xubuntu 18.04.

Except for one counterpart, all keys could be migrated through the transitionla Enigmail plugin.

However, there is one public key, which TB refuses to use for encryption. Of course I don't know the intricacies if this particular key and how it was made. I can export it to a file *.public.asc and this file is 7,1kB big. When I want to write an email to a recipient, the first thing that happens on sending: "The message cannot be sent with end-to-end encryption because there are problems with the keys of the following recipients: ...".

The recipient has to deal with many others and of course has little inclination to distribute new public keys just because of me and fears decrypting problems with his other correspondence partners who continue to use his old key during the transition period which he fears to be quite long. I understand that. Unfortunately, the error message does not give the slightest hint as to what is wrong with the key in question in Thunderbird's sense. In any case, the key is still valid for years to come.

It is not offered for selection in the menu "Security OpenPGP message". However, if I click on one of the two buttons below it, TB knows the key related to the email address in question.

With the second option 'Search for new or updated key' TB also finds the key and I can also say that I have checked it and that the fingerprint is correct. But then I am returned to the "Security OpenPGP message", two dialogue windows before and with no key to select. I am caught in an endless loop of questions that do not help me.

Where can I see what condition this public key violates? Is there a URL where I can enter the text form of the key and it will tell mri why TB cannot cope with exactly this key. If I want to convince my correspondence partner to generate a new key pair, I must at least be able to tell him what is wrong with the one which he has given me before and which we used for quite some time!

BTW: If I have to send an unencrypted mail because I don't have no working public key I have to switch off encryption. But then I switch it off for all subsequent Emails. If I want to re-enable it, I have to send myself or someone else an encrypted email. That's not a very smart design decision in the UI! At least I expect a setting Always encrypt which possibly lets me change my mind for one particular email, but not for all subsequent ones!

I have been using Thunderbird on a new computer for a little while, and then I imported profiles from my previous computer. The result was that it seems to have overwritten the files on my new computer with all the old info, and newer messages and addresses don't show. How can I amalgamate both new and old so all my emails are in one place? (I have back-up copies)

Hello. I have recently been experiencing lots of problems with Thunderbird E-mails. Often I am unable to send any mails at all. Although the in-box seems to work OK. Checked with my ISP yesterday ( Talk Talk ) and was advised they no longer support Tiscali E-mails ! However, that later turned out to be incorrect. Apparently they still support Tiscali - but only for existing telephone and broadband customers like me. However, I am advised to change my account settings from POP 3 to IMAP. ( not quite sure why ! )

If I am to change the settings to IMAP could someone please let me have some simpole and easy-to-follow steps for an " oldie " like me so I don't make any mistakes. Also, please could you confirm that if I make the switch I will still be able to keep my existing tiscali.co.uk E-mail domain name ? I want to retain that E-mail address in any event. Is that possible ?

Finally, I would want to copy a couple of hundred incoming and out-going E-mails to the IMAP account, or, if not possible, then I would need to make a back-up copy of two or three hundred incoming and out-going E-mails which are already on Thunderbird but I don't know how to go about this. Could someone please send me some easy-to-follow instructions,

I have to say that all of this seems very complicated just to change from POP 3 to IMAP in order to keep Talk Talk happy ! I don't use multiple accounts and would prefer to stick with POP 3. Help and advice please on what to do.

Many thanks. SG.

I am using Thunderbird for a number of accounts. They each have their own SMTP server for outbound. I have a gmail account and when I try to send a message it has another of my addresses on the from line to the right of the address of the account. It must be a return address different.

This happens if I click send mail and then pick the proper personality to send from, and in the dropdown list it is wrong. If I click send mail in the account it works OK.

I have searched and tried to change it to the one for the account, but I just don't see it anywhere on the account to change. What am I missing here?

This is the first time I've needed to do this in years but, at one time, installing a root (or, for that matter, third-level) CA certificate in Firefox was straightforward. Unless I'm missing something --and I've been poking around these files for over an hour-- it is now, at best, quite obscure. Is there a way for me to install a CA certificate for a CA you have chosen to not recognize and include with the system? If so, a clear explanation of how to do it would be appreciated. And, yes, I understand the implications of doing this.

Thanks.

Hi, there. I've been using FF ESR as my primary browser for over 3 years. However, I keep encountering update problem, which by clicking menu button and the pop-up update option. Then, the browser will update my 64-bit ESR into 32-bit ESR. I feel so confused and upset I have to update manually by downloading the whole new 64-bit version from official site even though a minor update. The latest version was 78.5 ESR 64-bit reinstalled along the OS on DEC. 2020, Now using 78.10 ESR 64-bit. Is there any solution for me to use pop-up update on menu option? Environment: Windows 7 ultimate SP1 64-bit Thanks!

I am on the Beta channel - now on Ver 89.0 but have lost Outlook contacts . I don't know much about Thunderbird internals - even though I am a lon-term user.

I need to implement the

set ldap_2.servers.outlook.dirType to 3

command.

But I have no idea how or where to do this - presumably its in some special area. Also is it ldap (ie Ldao) or 1dap (ie one)?

This must be easy - but its a mystery to me .

Best & thanks in advance

Gilbert

PS disabling the Outlook connection must have inconvenienced nearly all the T-bird users in UK Universities - bad move T-bird.

As a new user, I installed Thunderbird version 38.1 in order to convert my PST file to Thunderbird. This version will not allow me to update to a newer version. I have already backed up my profiles according to the instructions found in the support section. If I install the current version, what files do I replace in the new version from the earlier version in order to get my folders and emails back? I want to keep all of my emails and file structure and make them visible in the new version. I am assuming that the new version will overwrite the old one and that the old profile will need to be cut and pasted in to place. Or am I wrong? Are there additional steps to take to have Thunderbird look at the correct profile? have seen some descriptions of what to do but I am a technical novice and I am not sure that I completely understood how to get Thunderbird to look at my original profile. I understand that a version specific new profile will be created in the new version. I just don't know how to get my emails and folders back.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

I discovered that an email on the Comcast server, which I could view on my iPhone, was not downloaded to my Thunderbird inbox. I've had a suspicion that this has happened in the past but this time, I had actual proof. I'm wondering why that might happen. I've checked my filters and there isn't one for this particular sender and I've received emails from the sender in the past. I'm using version 78.10.1 (32-bit) and Windows 10. Any ideas? I thought maybe switching from POP3, which I've used for a long time, to IMAP might solve the problem but then I realized that I wouldn't be able to store emails on my own hard drive and that's important to me. But it's also important to see all my emails!

I recently downloaded Firefox in order to try to install it on a Windows VM. When I download the regular (online) installer and checked it with VirusTotal, one of the VirusTotal "engines" detected it as malicious. Therefore, I located the "offline" installer file on your website and ran it inside the VM.

A few minutes after I performed the installation, I got a "setup.exe" alert box saying "The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application."

Note: I cannot be sure this error actually pertains to Firefox (as it's a remote desktop connection to a shared VM so maybe somebody else was trying to install something). But the error did pop up shortly after I ran the Firefox installer. Also, this only happened once.

VM information: 4 CPUs; 16GB memory (1.28 GB active); hard disk 150 GB. Compatibility: ESXi 6.5 an later (VM version 13)

OS information: Windows 2019 Datacenter; Processor: Intel Xeon CPU ES-2697 v3 @ 2.60GHz 2.59GHz (4 processors) Installed RAM: 16.0 GB; 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.
