Hi,

I am trying to add my work email account in Thunderbird, but for some reason the settings do not work in my case. It's really strange, because somebody else from my work is able to connect to their account with the same IMAP/SMTP server settings.

I am using a web2mail Email account and I already had a 2 hour long session with their support trying to find out what the problem is, but it seems that there is no issue on their end. The support there was able to use MS Office Outlook to connect to my account without any issues. And as mentioned before, my colleague is able to connect to her account using Thunderbird. And also, I was able to connect to my account using Spark with essentially the same server settings!

I really don't understand why Thunderbird cannot log in to MY account specifically. I tested it on two different computers with the same result. The error message is in the attached screenshot.

One more strange piece of information: If I change from IMAP to POP3 (with port 995), then it lets me add the account, but is not downloading any emails...

I've noticed that when I use my VPN the Broadband data volume measured by my Glasswire traffic meter software monitor is doubled. I've tested it numerous times, and when I download a file it appears to download it automatically to Cloudfare as the volume is almost the exact double of the file size and double the amount as measured through my VPN. Could this problem be associated with the DNS over HTTPS feature. I've changed this setting so that Cloudfare doesn't load anything automatically, but there is no change. Is there another automatic Cloud setting I should change or could this problem be independent of Firefox. Thank you. -Reply to moderator Co-rel "answer": @Co-rel, You are not answering my question. And are you inferring there could be a bug in my Firefox version and I would need to debug it myself? I am asking if there is a default setup in association with Cloudfare which would record all of my traffic and/or downloads. I've canceled the default DNS to HTTPS Cloudfare default. Is there another automatic default service clouding to Cloudfare storing our data automatically built-in Firefox? My Traffic and Data Monitor Glasswire records or measures my traffic as anticipated when I browse without using my VPN. But when I use the VPN the data count is doubled and what newly appears on the register is the URL of Cloudfare which is the same size approximately as the file downloaded, doubling the traffic. I tested by isolating a simple maneuver of downloading a single 150 Mb file. I did it twice with the same result. I did the same thing twice with a 1 Gb file last Wednesday, got the same results.

I installed Supernova after almost 2 decades away from Thunderbird. I created an Supernova IMAP account connected with my Gmail account. It was orders of magnitude easier than using Outlook.

I need to copy a folder hierarchy of Thunderbird emails form 2 decades ago into my Gmail account. They take the form of associated *.msf files and, for each, either an extensionless MBOX file or a *.sbd subfolder with the same filename stem as the *.msf file. Copying these into Supernova's Windows folder for its "Local Folders email folder did the trick. I can see the old folder hierarchy and the messages therein. See Note [1] below.

I tried to Ctrl+Drag the folder tree into the Gmail account, which causes some of the folder tree to be created, but none of the messages. I tried copying the swath of messages for each folder at a time, but nothing happens. I even tried copying an individual message, but no luck

I assumed that this is because the Gmail tagging system is not compatible with idea of *nested* folders. So instead, I created *one* folder with the same name as *one* of the old Thunderbird message folders. I then tried Ctrl+Drag'ing the swath of messages in that old Thunderbird folder into the corresponding Gmail folder -- nothing happened.

I even tried dragging *one* message from the old Thunderbird folder into the Gmail folder. Again, nothing happened.

How can I copy folders in Supernova's "Local Folders" into my Gmail account? Alternatively, if I set up a corresponding folder in the Gmail account, only 1 level deep to be compatible with its tagging system, how can I copy swaths of messages from a Supernova "Local Folders" folder into the Gmail folder? Failing that, is it possible to copy one message at a time?

Notes [1] This is posted at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1440091. Unfortunately, I can follow-up with the answer. I get the message " An Error Occurred: Oh, no! It looks like an unexpected error occurred. We've already notified the site administrators. Please try again now, or in a few minutes."

I installed Supernova after almost 2 decades away from Thunderbird. I created an Supernova IMAP account connected with my Gmail account. It was orders of magnitude easier than using Outlook.

I need to open a hierarchy of Thunderbird email folders from 2 decades ago. They take the form of associated *.msf files and, for each, either an extensionless MBOX file or a *.sbd subfolder with the same filename stem as the *.msf file.

I thought that I could simple navigate within the Supernova GUI to open the MSF file, but all it does is show the text of the MSF file in a separaste tab from my email. No hierarchy of folders appears in the email folder pane.

I realize that I can explore 3rd party tools, but these old files are native Thunderbird files. Surely there is a way to open them?

I have been using and sending support to T-Bird for 20+ years. I used to use mozbackup to backup and or move my installation. However, I am not sure it works with the newer version(s) of T-Bird and I do not want to mess up my installation.

Please create a backup utility so I can archive my installation and emails so it can be moved in total to a new or another computer seamlessly.

Thank you!

How to revert back to previous version?

I get that the wonderful people at Thunderbird want to create the best software, but what happens when an update occurs that takes away a much loved and much used feature? Surely we can all have a say if we want a feature to remain? Last year I noticed sometime that I could no longer click a dropdown and check for messages on just 1 of the accounts I hold. I am not forced to check all of them which is time consuming and can be off putting when I am just looking for one email. Especially when so many companies now ask us to check an email for 2FA. That single change has impacted the way I use Thunderbird and how effective it is for me. If developers are not prepared to give back features we want, then at least offer us the ability to revert back to older versions. I've turned off updating now and won't update Thunderbird again as I am too worried I will lose more features that I use daily. I am happy to accept a 'security risk', and not get 'feature updates' that I neither asked for nor even know what they are. If 'kindness is at the heart of this community', then show some kindness and someone explain how to revert back to a previous version without losing all of my messages, filters etc? I should say I am using Thunderbird Portable on windows 10 and the current version of Thunderbird is 115.7.0 (64-bit)

For a long time I have stored my POP messages in a a Mail folder on drive E:

I am in the process of changing computers and I have the E:\Mail folder on the new PC containing the old messages. I have saved the profile, installed Thunderbird 115, and reinstated the profile, but Thunderbird does not point to the E:\Mail directory.

How can I persuade it to see my massages?

Thinking of buying a refurb Mac made in Jan 2023. They don't say what OSX is installed. If I use Migration Assistant to copy the whole hard drive from my 2011 machine running El Capitan and Thunderbird 60.90.1, I may find that this old version of TB will not function. So I would try to install a newer rev of TB, but not all the way to rev 115.

If I'm lucky, it will not be a "new install" because then I would have to previously find & save the Profile.ini and that other .ini file. I don't remember if I also need to save the actual email data separately, but of course I want that as well. And then I would have to do a complicated process to copy the Users and emails back into the newly installed version. I did this once long ago & don't relish figuring it out again.

However, the process of Migrating and fixing all the Preferences etc on the new computer might take me some days, and in the meantime I would be sending & receiving emails on the old computer. So I would want to take THAT data and stick it in the new machine.

So can anyone tell me if my old rev of TB is likely to function?

3 months ago I was on version 115.3.1 and asked a question about the safety of 115 updates. I received the following answer from sfhowes: If you're already on 115, you shouldn't have any issues with further updates to the 115 branch, as some, but not all, problems are fixed with each 115 release. The time to hesitate is when the annual major release is offered around June/July. Wait a few months for the major bugs to be fixed, or run two versions side-by-side.

I continued to update to further 115 releases but, because of the many apparent user issues, I stopped updating at version 115.5.1. The latest release is now 115.8.0. Can anyone guarantee 'no issues' if I now permit this release to be installed ... I have no problems using 115.5.1 but perhaps this is now a security risk?

I installed Thunderbird yesterday and tried to connect my work account, which is a Google workspace gmail account with the organization's domain instead of gmail.com. I set the servers as smtp.gmail.com and managed to select OAuth2 for authentication (this was difficult and required me to set the port at 465). I went through the permission process with Google, which now acknowledges (in a very warning sort of way) that Thunderbird has access to my account. I even sent an email from Thunderbird, which showed up in the sent folder on the gmail account and was received by the sent to account. However, I see only an empty inbox and empty local Trash and Outbox folders in Thunderbird. It's just not syncing anything (or maybe downloading anything?) from the gmail account. I need it to sync all my mail folders and my calendars as well, so two big problems need to be solved before I can use Thunderbird at all. I sure appreciate any help I can get!
