I am getting an error for an outdated certificate on my mail smtp server and when I try to add a security exception Thunderbird does absolutely nothing when i click the button to add a security exception where I can send mail. I end up having to cancel the window and discard my email. It will also not go view the certificate and if you ask it to check it just hangs up forever in and endless loop of checking.

Lets say I want to write to Larry.Smith at xyz corp. If I star to type in Lar I get every Larry I've known for 10 years. I want to be able to weed out and eliminate those names that are no longer relevant to me. How can I do this so that only the most recent names pop up? Can you tell me how to do this?

My original disk lost its XP Pro, so I got a new PC. I can still access most files on my old disk, as it is now attached via an external enclosure, but I cannot find how to get access to my old Thunderbird inbox. "File Transfer Wizard" is missing, and MS Search is broken and won't start. T'Bird works fine on the new disk/PC, but I need to look up some correspondence on the old disk. Is there some file I can point T'Bird to, that will contain my old emails ? Can I somehow merge the old and current files so I can search on a subject or person ?

Hi,

we use Thunderbird for several business e‑mail accounts (for example info@… and similar), all configured as IMAP, and the same mailboxes are used by multiple people on several computers. Our mail server hostname is nickel.studio4web (Studio4web hosting).

We have noticed the following strange behaviour of messages (usually customer orders):

A new message arrives normally in the “Inbox” folder.

After some time, for example the next day, the same message also appears in the “Trash” folder, but it is still visible in “Inbox” at the same time.

We checked the headers; the Message‑ID field is exactly the same in both Inbox and Trash, so it looks like one and the same mail that exists in two folders at once.

In Thunderbird Server Settings we configured the delete behaviour so that messages are either moved to Trash or removed immediately (we tested both options), and after that we ran Compact on both the Inbox and Trash folders. However, some messages still remain simultaneously in Inbox and Trash.

We know that other team members open the same accounts in other clients / on mobile phones or in webmail, but we are not sure whether that alone can explain this double appearance of the same message (Inbox + Trash).

For example, two order emails from 03.12. were in Inbox only on that day, and today we see them also in Trash, while they are still in Inbox. No one remembers explicitly deleting them.

Questions:

Is this behaviour normal for IMAP in Thunderbird, or does it indicate some bug or wrong configuration?

Is there a way to prevent a single message from being present in both “Inbox” and “Trash” at the same time (so that it is either only in Inbox or only in Trash)?

What else should we check in Thunderbird settings or on the mail server (filters, special IMAP options, automatic cleanup, server‑side rules, etc.) to avoid such “duplicate” messages?

Environment:

Thunderbird version: 140.5.0esr

Operating system: Windows 11 Pro

Mail server / provider: nickel.studio4web (Studio4web hosting)

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

  • Bulleted list item

I have built up a collection of more than 400 deleted emails in my 'Deleted' folder. I am sure I will not need to refer to any of them again, and I would like to finally remove them. In the past, there was a command among the various sets of commands at the top of the page, which removed all of them, after confirming that this is what I wished to do. I can no longer find this command. Please tell me where to find it. If it no longer exists, tell me how to deal with 'deleted' material.

Attempting to add a gmail oauth account in TB fails authentication using verified account password. (The account requires two-factor authentication using an authenticator app, but haven't tried that as a password) I have removed the account from TB, and the saved passwords for the account. I then added the account back to TB but get the same "Failed authentication" notification without any opportunity to register a new password. I can not find a cookie to remove and retry the process.

Earlier this year I downloaded Thunderbird and started trying to use it. Early on, I somehow set a password and I am not able to remember that password. So, at that time, I uninstalled Thunderbird and continued using my old Outlook 2016.

Recently, I realized that End of Life for Outlook 2016 was near or already here. So, I decided to try Thunderbird again. HOWEVER, Thunderbird still keeps prompting me for passwords – apparently looking back at my previous installation.

I would REALLY like to get out of my MS connection and continue with Thunderbird, but I am frustrated and can’t get in enough to reset the password/

All assistance and guidance will be very much appreciated.

I'm new to Thunderbird. Today I installed and exported ALL my data from Outlook for Mac. I then used Olminator to successfully convert to eml and ics files for import to Thunderbird. The eml file import for my email worked great, as did my contacts. However, when I try importing the resulting ics file, I get this error:

If you’re seeing this message after snoozing or dismissing a reminder and this is for a calendar you do not want to add or edit events for, you can mark this calendar as read-only to avoid such experience in future. To do so, get to the calendar properties by right-clicking on this calendar in the list in the calendar or task view.

I've tried importing to the 'Home' calendar, and also creating a new calendar for the import but nothing works.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Not sure how to explain this but...

I was using Bluehost, and they somehow screwed up my website (my email was attached to my domain). I switched domains today and when I restarted Thunderbird, all my previous emails disappeared. I'm not sure why they didn't stay on the "server" and I don't know how to get them back now that I've swtiched from Bluehost.

I still have access to my emails on my phone (thru gmail, not thunderbird, but it's NOT a gmail / Google Workspace email).

Is there a way for me to retrieve these messages? I'm on a mac, btw.

Method using a transfer device On your source computer Connect a device for data transfer, either a local one such as a USB flash drive, or a remote storage drive. Click the menu button Fx57Menu, then click Help and select Troubleshooting Information. Locate the "Profile Folder" entry, then click Open Folder. Your Thunderbird profile folder will open in Windows Explorer. Close Thunderbird. From your Thunderbird profile folder in Windows Explorer, go up three levels. I find using format painter is so useful to correct font type and format when cutting and pasting from other sources. Is there a plan to add this to the Thunderbird email portfolio? If not, how can I correct font size and format because when I use the drop down menu, the request is ignored or corrected to something close but not exact, even if I select all the text to format it in one single type and I still end up with text in all sorts of crazy formats. Hello,

I've used Thunderbird for my e-mail for approximately 15 years, and now I can't currently send e-mail. I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps and also had Geek Squad attempt to fix it, but I'm still unable to send e-mail (I can receive them).

I've changed my password multiple times, reinstalled a fresh copy of Thunderbird on my Windows 11 laptop, restored the default settings for the outgoing server to align with what Verizon has specified, and nothing resolves the problem.

I keep getting the message: " Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Email rejected. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again."

Please let me know what the next step is so that I can use Thunderbird to send and receive my e-mails, like I have in the past.

Have two email accounts: Outlook and Gmail. They check and pull mail off the servers independently. I would prefer to only have to look in ONE account for my mail. I have chosen Outlook. I am having problems getting Thunderbird to push the emails in my Gmail folders to the corresponding Outlook folders. Is that because it can't be done? In settings for GMail account, under Copies and folders, I push: Sent messages > Sent on d*******1@outlook.com Archives folder > Archive on d*******1@outlook.com Drafts > Drafts folder on d*******1@outlook.com but they don't seem to be going there.

Is there a way to move messages in GMail TRASH to Outlook DELETED? As you can see, I'm not very aquainted with these things and am pretty confused. Any help appreciated.
