My Firefox bookmark icons fail to load. Just a globe showing in toolbar. I did a clean install of firefox and upon importing my bookmarks backup via html some bookmarks failed to update their icon even though it was showing properly on the tab. Even with an identical address it would still be a globe. I tried everything from refresh, clear history, deleting and changing the name of favicons/places sqlite. Nothing worked. Again, this was a clean install. All other firefox sytem folders were also removed prior to re-installing. Program files, appdata, etc. all deleted prior to installing.

After trying some things with no luck I found out that If you import your firefox bookmarks to chrome and re-load the bookmarks in chrome the icon refreshed to the correct one. I did that for all missing icons. I then exported the bookmarks as html, but before I imported them back into firefox i completely removed history and all bookmarks once again, and then restarted firefox.

Once firefox opened I imported the bookmark html from chrome and sure enough it worked. The bookmark icons were back to normal. To test i reloaded the page and even restarted firefox and they were all still ok. There is def an issue in firefox that prevents bookmark icons from refreshing properly. Hopefully the team will take a look into this and get a patch to firefox.

I already fixed the issue but I wanted to post here to report my findings in case this was a bug? For some reason I couldnt create an account at bugzilla either so thats why I am also posting here.

I have Firefox on 3 devices. Windows 10, Mac and Android. When I'm adding bookmarks or browse on any of the devices it will not sync to the others (not bookmarks nor history). So far I've tried:

  1. Click Sync Now in settings/Preferences
  2. Disconnect sync and reconnect
  3. Logout and log back into my Firefox account
  4. Uninstall and reinstall Firefox

My sync is set to synchronize: Bookmarks, Preferences, Addons, and History I've done it on each of the devices/OSs. No improvement.

I apparently had both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on my computer because I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 (installing both version was not intentionally done and did not know about it until the following). Every time I tried to open FF it would crash. My research disclosed that both versions was installed and guessed that was cause of the crash. Deleted 32 bit version -- after that, FF loaded and I gave it no more thought. I think the bookmarks were there. Turned off Computer and went home. Next morning after bootup and opening FF discovered no bookmarks. Tried booksmarks tool - it appears that it added the new bookmarks -- but the link does not appear anyware that I can find on toolbar. So still no bookmarks. Tried about:profiles -- shows a number of default profiles, but when I double-click on them all that happens is the opening of the links -- it does not substitute the default profile.

For links in folders on the bookmarks toolbar, having the "Sort by Name" menuitem appear in the context menu of the containing folder doesn't make sense as the sorting is currently implemented. The Sort-by-Name menuitem should be captioned "Sort Toolbar by Name". A new menuitem should be added to the context menu of the items within the folder, captioned "Sort this Folder by Name". Not only would this make more sense semantically, but it would simplify the steps you have to go through when adding a link to a folder, changing its properties, and resorting the links. Maybe someone can come up with better captions, but you get the idea.

For example: I drag a link to a folder on the toolbar. I then have to click to open the toolbar, find the new link, edit properties. To re-sort the folder, I have to the right-click on the folder (which closes it!) and choose "Sort by Name". Then, to see the results, I have to reopen the folder and find the link again! If "Sort this Folder by Name" were on the inner context menu, I could just do that and see the results without going back up to the toolbar, and then back down into the folder.

Dear All,

Firefox does not seem to persistently save search engines which use http POST to accept search queries. example, if I add the search engine at https://subscene.com/ and assign a keyword to it, it works for that session but does not survive across reboots.

If anyone knows how to make it work persistently please share. Thanks.

Hi, I am having an issue with bookmarks and sync.

Steps followed: My mom has Firefox for Android (68.0), and a Windows 10 computer with Firefox (75.0). She had not used the computer in about a month. When opening the computer, I noticed that her desktop bookmarks did not sync with her mobile bookmarks (some folders she had renamed/deleted on her phone still appeared on her desktop). I tried to manually sync on the computer. Nothing. When I checked her mobile I noticed that sync was off on her mobile, so I turned it on. I tried to sync again on her computer, logged off her account on computer, logged in again, tried to sync, then restarted the computer, reopened Firefox, tried to sync but nothing. I connected to her Firefox account on my tablet, and her mobile bookmarks synced perfectly on my tablet. So I uninstalled Firefox on her computer completely (deleting the APPDATA Firefox file) and reinstalled it.

The problem now:

  1. when opening the bookmark menu on the computer, the "mobile bookmarks" folder does not show. I went into "about:config", searched for "mobi", but the option "browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks" does not appear at all.
  2. when searching for a mobile bookmark in the address bar, Firefox finds the bookmark (I see the URL) but it does not show as stared and when I click on it, the blue star does not appear. But there is some kind of sync working apparently, since Firefox recognizes the URLs of sites that are bookmarked on mobile!

I am not sure what the issue is and would appreciate some help. Thanks very much for your time.

Hello all,I have numerous bookmarks with keywords. But Firefox randomly deletes them. I will notice that one isn't working anymore, I open up the Bookmarks library, and the keyword is gone.

I recall having a lot of trouble with this in the past, but I can't remember a solution. I think it was related to syncing between devices.

The problem disappeared for a year or more, and now it's back. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a series of 20 or so webpages that I like to read first thing in the morning. When I open Firefox and click on "Open All in Tabs" it creates a tab for each website, but won't load that website until I select the address bar and press enter. It doesn't happen all the time, but I'd say 95% of the time.

Hey all! I know this question has been asked before, so sorry for asking again. I want to know if there is a way I can manually change the little icons that appear next to your bookmarks on your toolbar. There's a few that all have the same icon that I'd like to change. That way I can differentiate them at a glance, plus I'd just like the option to customize them in general. I was searching for an answer to this, and a few people recommended an add-on/extension, however the posts were so old, the links were dead. I'm not sure if the add-ons still exist, but I figured I'd ask and see if anyone knew what they were. Most of the posts regarding this question seemed to be quite. That's why I thought I might ask again and see if anything has changed. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear them. Even if it's an "unofficial" solution. Thanks a bunch, and stay safe!!!

I lost my latest bookmarks and it's been mixed with different bookmarks with the same account, Here's the thing: I use the same account 116****@qq.com, which is a Chinese account. I usually use the global sync, but maybe 2yrs ago I used local sync for firefox of chinese version on Android for a while, which has different bookmarks. But I have adjust to global sync for a long time and have always use it now. Today the bookmarks became mixed. My most recent and old ones, and some of my latest bookmark folders have lost.

How can I get back to my latest bookmarks on PC, win10?

Please anyone who knows about this help. Please reply or contact me with [email address] Many many thanks ahead.

I have 2 windows 10 systems which I thought I might try sync to manage logins and bookmarks.

Initially it all worked smoothly then duplicate bookmarks started appearing, folders also duplicated and the only way to restore things was to revert to a saved version. I turned off sync for bookmarks but still changes appear almost every time I log into either device.

I am tempted to remove sync unless someone can suggest a solution.

I want to change some of my bookmark favicons. I went online and found a few recommendations for extensions that purport to do that, but when I tried to access them, I got "This page does not exist", which I assume to mean that those extensions are obsolete. When I tried to find a solution on the support forum, I got "1900" responses. I went through about 50 of them and none had anything to do with changing favicons!

There are a couple of YouTube videos that address this problem, but I can't understand the speech of the authors, and, from what I did understand, the process advocated is complex. I assume this is a simple task. Am I wrong? Just looking for a simple list of instructions.
