I have a new w11 laptop. I would like to install Thunderbird. I have 8 email accounts on the old W10 computer. I plan on keeping the old W10 computer running and using TB. All my accounts are IMAP--Yahoo, gmail, hotmail (now outlook) but I have an pretty extensive Local folder collection on the old W10 Would I be better off just installing TB on the new W11 computer and adding each email and start fresh or should I venture into copying the W10 profile (some of the instructions seem a bit confusing). If I add all my emails as a fresh start to the new W11 computer could I then just copy the LOCAL folders in the W10 Profile and paste it into the W11 profile?

I tried to use Thunderbird today,.. to find the interface was broken, menus were blank, so no ability to look at anything., and error message inferring there was a menu config issue was all that was shown. I duly removed Thunderbird as a snap install, which took a long time as it seemed to be making a backup to somewhere. I then reinstalled Thunderbird 128.11.0esr (64-bit) on my ubuntu 24.04,.. having setup the isp email credentials,.. all seemed fine,.. I then proceeded to import what I assumed was my old local folders... And this is where things went wrong, as I seem to have lost all my archived 2025 emails,.. I say somewhere,.. as I don't seem to be able to find them, I have used the 'find' command to locate anything with 2025 in the file name,.. but without success. At the moment I have a multi-structured 'local folder' entry, but nothing with 2025 in? I anyone able to shed some light on what I may have done wrong Many tx

I've used Thunderbird for years, and I LOVE it! A few days ago, my hard drive died. I had it replaced, and I've used my data backup to recover much. I did NOT have programs/apps backed up. I need VERY SPECIFIC steps to download and reinstall Thunderbird so that it uses my old profile. Should I first delete EVERYTHING having to do with Thunderbird and start anew? I did download it today and then went to the C:Users/Owner/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird folder. In that folder, I deleted the "new" profile file (I think!). Then I moved my backed up folder called Profiles into that directory. I tried to get Thunderbird to use that profile, but no luck. I'm reasonably intelligent (I've been told!), but I can't figure how to do this, and I truly need a step-by-step blueprint. Do I download Thunderbird first? If so, what do I then do to make it find the old profile. I'm running Windows 11 Home on a PC. Right now, I'm going for a long walk to clear my brain. In the interim, if one of you really smart, nice experts could give me instructions on how to do this, I'd be eternally grateful. I have numerous folders, and some really important old emails in that old profile. I also would like to be able to retrieve my address book and calendars ... which I ASSUME are part of the old profile. Thanks in advance for ANY assistance! Don't assume I know ANYTHING!!

(The topic is the closest I could pick from the dropdown.)

After a disaster last October appearing after a macOS update, I have been working to get back to where all is normal. Apple asked me to erase and reinstall macOS. I was using TBird (some struggles) right up to doing the erase. My question:

Is there some data in the backup ups of the profiles that identifies the TBird version that was last using the profile?

This might also help me: is there is some data in the .app files that identifies what version of TBird the Package "file" is for.

Thanks for your help.

Hi - I have been looking for over 2 days. How do I import all my data (emails, addresses calendar) from Outlook to Thunderbird.

I have tried Import tool within Thunderbird - import from Outlook. I tried MailStore and was totally confused - the terminology was strange. I managed to make an archive - it took ages to find where it was and I still do not know the file extension.

No videos...nothing.

Thanks

This latest version of Thunderbird has all sorts of bugs. I can't open or view email, can't save drafts & send messages (get errors: failed to save drafts & send message). I constantly reinstall the app: works fine at 1st; but then the same bugs keep resurfacing. Is there a way to go back to the earlier release version? Thunderbird was working fine before this latest version was installed.

Heads up for custom installs: running tbird and firefox on linux, I install both in my home directory for my own ease of updates and portability. I get releases from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/ in tarball formats which install in 30 seconds. I recently ran into a problem which I've not seen before. recent d/l of firefox-136.0.tar.xz for linux-x86_64. It crashed immediately with err 126. The ff.exe and ff.bin files were for ARM arch. This wasn't easy to locate and I think it was caught but anyone still headscratching may want to see if this is an issue - I had a good 136 on a laptop and overwrote bad install on desktop.

I *think* I've followed the instructions, but I am unsuccessful in moving Thunderbird Profile to new PC. I copied old profile to external drive. I opened Thunderbird on new PC and found Profile folder. I went up 3 levels and pasted old profile from external drive into folder on new PC. But my old data have not moved. When I go into new Thunderbird and choose "open profile folder", it shows me 3 files: the two that the system created in the new download, plus the old Profile that I pasted there. The new version of Thunderbird uses the "new download" profile as the default. What am I doing wrong? Thanx!

This has probably been asked many times but I haven't seen it. I have a home network with three computers on it, each located in different parts of my house. I'm running Thunderbird on one of them and I'm very happy with it. But for convenience, I'd like to be able to run it on all three computers so my email is easily available no matter which machine I'm on. Is this possible, and if it is, is it just a matter of downloading the software on each machine and duplicating the settings? Are there any glitches I should be aware of?

Many thanks...

I can't find the setting I might have set up wrong.

Hi. On an Active Directory, we deploy Firefox (normal or ESR). It's OK. When we deactivate the link of the GPO, it's supposed to uninstall. But it doesn't (even if we delete the GPO, specifying to uninstall at once).

The gpresult command on each computer doesn't show the GPO anymore, but Firefox is still installed.

( FYI, we used to do that with FrontMotion Community Edition, and it was always working (instal and uninstal). We even just tried the "last" (but old) ESR edition present on the FrontMotion site (CEESR-102), and it works. But FM CE version has stopped being developped. )

So, any idea about why the official Mozilla Firefox version (normal or ESR) doesn't uninstall?

Thanks by advance.

Please indulge this silly question. What possible benefit is there for Mozilla continuing to list this page with the very first, oldest Firefox release at the the top, requiring the user, every time they visit, to scroll to the middle of the page to search out the current latest version instead of having the chronological order from latest to oldest instead?

Long-time user (and contributor) to Mozilla. Very unhappy with migration from Windows 10 machine to a new Windows 11 machine for Thunderbird. Despite all attempts, Thunderbird would not create a profile (of any type) recognizable in file explorer under the appropriate folders (yes, I know what I'm doing).

Ultimately, I created a "fake" Thunderbird/profiles folder set and then transferred (via a flash drive) to the new Thunderbird installation using the profiles manager.

Your website was of no help in this process.

Sadly, it seems about a quadrillion subscribers have the same problem.

Apparently, you have a BIG problem with migration to Windows 11.
