Hello everyone,

I have checked a lot of other questions already but I can't seem to find a solution to my problem.

I have Firefox installed on an old Laptop with macos Catalina. Reinstalled it many times with and without extensions, without any data but it doesn't matter what I do, even on a blank slate of a new reinstall of Firefox it just takes way too long to load or doesn't load at all and then even hangs up so that I always have to force quit it and slows down the entire laptop. It also sometimes loads tabs only if I reopen them or have to go to an already open tap that has been working to be able to open it.

I have been feeling super frustrated for days because I can not figure it out.

In a thread discussion about the flag, "browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory" dated 23-Nov-2022 (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33706117) it was mentioned that we've disabled tab unloading on Linux because low-memory detection just didn't work.

Has the issue been fixed? Does the low-memory detection work in Linux? Can it be enabled now?

Does it get triggered when SWAP is being used? Or when system free RAM falls say to about 25% of total physical RAM?

After an automatic update of my windows 11, the thunderbird has real perfomance problems! the program open very slow, it freeces permanently, that the program is not usable anymore. I have deleted Thunderbird and reinstalled but it still has the bad performance. Thunderbird on my Laptop with windows10 performance without a problem, is fast and does what it was designed for! What can I do??????????????

Thunderbird used to easy and quick to use - now it is slow and cumbersome. For instance, to get it to send an email there is a delay now. It just seems to be freezing up. Lynn

Hi, I’ve been using Thunderbird, but after installation it’s taking up 128GB of disk space. That seems unusually large — could you please help check what might be causing this?

Tbird (v16. 1) for android installed on my Pixel 9a connected to my gmail account. Gmail client runs perfectly connected to same account while Tbird starts with a blank screen i.e no messages. App appears to be frozen but later displays messages. General operation seems sluggish - enough to turn me back to the Gmail client (which I don't like) but at least I can navigate my email without waiting. Any suggestions please?

Hi. I access a gmail account via Thunderbird. It's generally quite efficient, but recently it has become very sluggish. I have pretty fast internet, wired at 1G, so usually my mail appears almost immediately. In the last week or so it has slowed down dramatically, sometimes requiring multiple login attempts. Any idea what's going on? Thanks. Steve

Since I upgraded to macOS 26 I noticed an annoying issue. When closing Thunderbird window and going back to another application the focus is being kept by Thunderbird for a few second making it impossible to click on the other app.

Steps to reproduce:

• open Thunderbird
• close Thunderbird window (using Cmd+Q or clicking the red button on the top left corner)
• click on any element of the Desktop

Expected:

• the element is selected

Result:

• nothing happen

After a few seconds (from 1 to 3), the macOS menu change from Thunderbird to Finder and then everything works properly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am running an iMac Catalina 10.15.7. Since Firefox just updated itself my system keeps crashing so bad that I have to do a hard shut down. Yesterday I had to do this over a dozen times to get through my session. Firefox was the last browser compatible with my Mac. Is this no longer the case?

I HATE this new mail program. It takes forever to load on my computer and is VERY slow. Is there any way to get the old program back? I am 83 years old and find this version very difficult to use. I had the older version for years (more than I can remember) and it was very easy to use. Is there a way for me to get an easier program -- like the old one. Please help me

Sometimes the index becomes too large, making searching very difficult. The solution is to reset the index, which involves deleting the global-messages-db.sqlite file. After Thunderbird rebuilds the index, searching is simpler and faster. Adding a menu or an automatic database reindexing process would be a significant improvement!

It is my custom to run spell check after typing an email. Today, sudenly, the write window hangs when I click on spelling. Does not happen in troubleshoot mode. I have no extensions installed and default theme. I did try disabling hardware acceleraton, but did not help.

Yesterday all workd OK, and thre have been no changes to the computer snce.

Some websites won't load at all while other are very slow to load but some will load just fine, example Crunchyroll (screenshot attached) won't load at all its just spinning loading icon and a white page but if I try it in a different browser it works just fine, but with Youtube it will load but is choppy and low quality videos and same thing as before I load it in a different browser and no problems. I have tried every possible solution I can find from clearing cookies and cache to refreshing Firefox even scanned for malware and virus nothing has worked please help me figure out what is happening and why it's only with Firefox that I am having this problem and its not hardware can play online just fine and download games from steam perfectly fine.

I'm slowly persuading my wife to move over from outlook to Thunderbird (due to constant issues with google sync). I've got it all setup nicely and working BUT i'm having a real issue with the thunderbird calendar taking an absolute age to populate It is quite a well used calendar with lots of recurring events/reminders to pay bills etc. Just to get the Holidays in United Kingdom takes about 30 seconds and to populate from the gmail calendar takes around 8 minutes

It's the one stumbling block i'm finding to persuade her to move over so any advice that can be given would be greatly appreciate

henn typing website keeps going to about blank/ crashes all time/ locks up unable to open sites like home depot/autozone xtra slow respondes. must be time to use something else firefox has gotten unusable
