Is there a way to completely opt out of having AI in my browser?

I find recent implementations of AI in Firefox quite frankly disgusting. I don't want to see it, I don't want to use it, I don't want it suggested to me. Not only it's unneeded, but also all your LLMs are a waste of electricity, fresh water and are a threat to my privacy, and we don't even mention all the legal trouble AI scraping creates.

I need a switch to completely remove any mention of LLMs/AIs in my Firefox browser unless I search for it on the internet (and, trust me, I wont; I'd prefer to continue thinking for myself and having real people with skills and talents do things if I can't do them myself) and have none of them touch me in any way. Kill that thing with fire.

Ideally Firefox, one that advertises itself as a secure browser with respect towards its users, shouldn't have any mention of AI in the first place, you know. But since companies are in a craze about it for some unknown reason (trust me, we don't want it; if I want to be lied to, I'd go to a paediatrician to talk about my symptoms, not a language model I can't trust with my data), at least give your users an option to get that awful thing out of their browser it they want to.

Have a nice day. <3

Request for configuration option to block Internet access when Proxy PAC file if unavailable or cannot be downloaded

Hello Everyone, I am seeking assistance to configure Firefox browser so that internet access is blocked when the browser cannot download or access the proxy Auto-configu… (read more)

Hello Everyone,

I am seeking assistance to configure Firefox browser so that internet access is blocked when the browser cannot download or access the proxy Auto-configuration (PAC) file. Our organisation enforces all web traffic through proxy servers defined by a PAC file. For compliance and security reasons, users should not have any direct internet access unless the browser is able to successfully retrieve and apply the PAC file.

The desired behaviour is:

1. Firefox attempts to download the PAC file from a defined URL. 2. If the PAC file is unreachable or fails to load (e.g., due to network restrictions or the device being outside the corporate network), Firefox should "fail closed" - meaning it should not allow any direct internet traffic. 3. This is effectively a "fail-block" mode: no fallback to direct connections, and no cached or bypassed proxy settings should allow internet browsing.

This behaviour is critical to prevent devices from accessing the internet without applying corporate proxy rules. I would like to know:

1/ Whether Firefox currently supports a setting or policy that enforces this fail-block condition when the PAC file is unavailable. 2/ If not, whether there are recommended configurations or enterprise policies (e.g., via `policies.json` or Group Policy templates) that could achieve equivalent enforcement.

Thank you for your assistance and guidance.

In both my desktop older installation (now updated) and my new laptop installation, when I go thru Account Settings and check off what I want, it all changes when I leave the setup. I uncheck the startup page, and when I open both versions of Bird, the startup page is there again. Same with table/card setup, and other options. Isn't there a "save" in Account settings? Thanks, Stacy

the only reason ive been using firefox is because its one of the few browsers that doesnt use AI. now this? anthony enzor-demeo what in the hell is wrong with you? no one wants this, stop pushing AI in a browser we all use SPECIFICALLY to avoid other browsers' (like chrome) sell out. i dont care if there's opt out I don't want this to be an option in the first place, and I know a lot of others feel the same.

i am not the kind of person who has brand loyalty, and if you continue with this I'll find something else to use.

With Firefox 144, there is unasked for/unwanted AI introduced. How do I ensure that all AI is completely disabled in my browser? I found a link describing some settings, but want to confirm this will disable ALL AI in the browser. I don't want it, don't trust the privacy/security holes yet to be found and would prefer it was not included in Firefox to begin with. The list I've found is:

  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.enabled", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.menu", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.page", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.shortcuts", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.sidebar", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.enable", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.linkPreview.optin", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.modelHubRootUrl", "");

Will this do it? What about:

browser.ml.chat.nimbus

Do I need to clear that field to ensure I don't get some auto opt-in in the future as more and more of this "stuff" is put into the browser?

Why not leave Firefox as a security/privacy conscious browser and put out a separate AI browser (FirefoxML?) for those that are not as concerned. How does Mozilla ensure that no information is leaked through AI from sessions for professionals that must protect physician/patient, attorney/client information or other legally confidential information?

Hi! I'm on a relatively new to me (refurb) desktop computer running Win 10 Pro (64 bit)* and Firefox 143.0.3.

In the past week both Firefox and Win 10 have updated. I don't know what happened, but now when I boot up or reboot, my computer opens to MS Edge. Yuck!

Every single time I have to reinstall Firefox! Once I do that, all is well again. I have all my bookmarks back, etc.

It also keeps changing my "default to Firefox" browser setting, turning it OFF, while I'm using Firefox. I repeatedly have to keep going in and clicking to make FF to the default browser again.

Why is it doing this? How do I stop it?

Anyway, I know I can't delete Edge or uninstall it. How do I shove it back into the black hole it has lived in until now?

Thanks very much in advance for any help offered. :)

I am getting regularly getting a random notification sound even when no E-mails have been received.

It seems to be when Thunderbird is automatically checking for E-mails, so for example if i have it set to check for new e-mails every 5 Mins I will get a notification sound every 5 mins or whatever I set that time to.

How do I turn off this sound without affecting the notification when a new e-mail is received.

How do I remove the pop up blocker on Firefox for certain websites? I am doing an online course and each introduction for each chapter has a short video that pops up but as soon as that happens Firefox sends a "Critical error" message then the video stops so I thinks that's happening because pop up blocker is turned on and I just dont know how to turn pop up blocker off for specific websites only like this one I am using for my study course. How can I turn the pop up blocker just for this one website so that this doesn't keep happening?
