When made to change my password by my email provider, instead of deleting my old password in Thunderbird I accidentally deleted the entire saved login (Thunderbird > Settings > Privacy&Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords > then deleted the entire saved login instead of only deleting the old password). When I tried adding my account login back to Thunderbird using “+ New Account”, it gives me an error message that my incoming server already exists. I'm trying to get my old saved login back without doing any more harm. I can still get into Thunderbird but it won't connect to the server (my login credentials now fail). I can still see and read my old emails but it won't retrieve any new emails. Is there a way to get my old login credentials back or re-enter them into Thunderbird? If not, are there files and folders I can copy from my old saved Thunderbird Profile directory into my active Profile directory to be able to login to my account again while keeping my local folders? I saved a lot of my email to my local folders, so I'm hesitant to overwrite my Mail folder (and even my ImapMail folder) for fear of losing my existing folders, especially my local folders.

Hello,

I have to add the Password every time I open Thunderbird because I removed the Password myself after I read this:

<<<< ThundaMike Mozilla Staff 7/28/25, 9:15 PM more options Sounds like you are almost there.

Building off what @david said above, try this:

In Thunderbird, go to Settings > Privacy & Security.

Scroll down to the Passwords section and click Saved Passwords….

Find your email account in the list and remove the saved password.

Restart Thunderbird.

When prompted, enter your new password. >>>

My doing this it removed the .twc password Log In totally in that Settings. I do not see the "my twc.com" in the settings of Tools, Privacy & Security, then Saved Passwords in the list, I only see the Hotmail account settings I have in Thunderbird. Removing it like ThundaMike wrote really removed all the TWC Password and Information.

Can someone help me restoring or re-enter my Mozilla Thunderbird info back into Tools, Privacy & Security, then Saved Passwords so I do not have to type in the Password every time I open Thunderbird.

Thank you so much for your time and efforts I truly appreciate it.

Spectrum had me change my password for one of my accounts on Thunderbird. I changed it with Spectrum. That account was working fine from Nov. 6 until today, Nov. 16; today, it decided that my password wouldn't work. I tried to change it when it asked at the time I was trying to send an email; it wouldn't take. I then went into "saved passwords" and tried to change it; it wanted a pin. This is my** first problem;** Norton has no idea what that is. Thunderbird asked for other sign-in methods including a Yahoo email, but I have no idea what it wants as it doesn't want the password for that Yahoo account. What is it looking for????

I deleted the account from Thunderbird's password manager. After my shutting down and reopening Thunderbird a few times, it finally worked --however, it didn't ask for a password and sent and received email just fine. Thunderbird now doesn't have that account listed in its password manager, but is giving me my mail and sending my mail out without asking me for a password. **This is my second problem.**

Since this is all combined, I'm sending both questions together; otherwise, I wouldn't do so. Does anyone know what's happening and how to get a password back as a necessity for that email account?

I recently became the webmaster for our local American Legion post and built a website through Hostinger. That service also offered a cost-effective email solution for us and I've created a number of email accounts for our office positions and some individuals by name. At the level of service we have with Hostinger, our website/email account domain is not the same as the email servers.

That's ordinarily not a problem, since most modern email applications can either pull domain email hostnames from registration records or gives the user a manual process to enter the email hostnames directly (in our case an IMAP and SMTP hostname belonging to Hostinger).

I had no problem using the manual configuration that Thunderbird supports to set up my first American Legion email address. Email was received immediately and testing outgoing email worked fine. Adding a second American Legion email address seemed to go well - email messages came in immediately - but the outbound testing failed with error messages that the sending client was not recognized.

That sounded like Thunderbird was not trying to authenticate with a password on the SMTP outbound even though I had indicated in the manual setup that a password was required (same as I had in the first American Legion account setup).

I checked the Thunderbird settings to see what saved passwords were recorded in the Password Manager and sure enough their were three IMAP host passwords but only two SMTP host passwords (the missing SMTP host password was for the second American Legion account).

I completely deleted the second American Legion account and tried again - just in case I had accidentally indicated no password needed for SMTP the first time - and got the same result (IMAP host password created, but not SMTP). I then tried deleting both American Legion accounts and then adding them back with the second account being added first this time. At least the problem was consistent - the first account added had both an IMAP host password record and a SMTP host password created; the second account created had only its IMAP host password saved.

I couldn't find a menu item for adding a host password in the Save Passwords settings menu; manually removing the IMAP password to force the system to ask for the password again only ended up with the IMAP host password being added back into the TBird Password Manager.

The version Linux Mint reports for Thunderbird is 1:128.11.1esr+linuxmint1+xia. As far as I can tell the issue only comes up when Thunderbird cannot auto-detect the email servers on its own and it only has a problem when more than one email account has to be added for a manually configured email domain.

Is there a TBird menu item I'm missing that would let me add the SMTP host password for the second account manually? Failing that, is this a known issue that has already been fixed by Thunderbird and should be forthcoming after that version is released as an update by the Linux Mint team?

Having TB 128.5.2esr (64-bit) suddenly start to occasionally complain about timing out when connecting to an outlook.office365.com account that usually works OK I had a look at the saved passwords to see if it was using the wrong one (thinking there could be problems with all the places my PC seems to save passwords - Google, Bitwarden, TB etc).

I found the same account not only had two identical entries with passwords that were last changed over a year ago but a third password that said it was changed on 29th Dec 24 which consisted of a long random string of character instead of the proper password that I set for that account. I haven't manually changed the password for a while now, nor have I been challenged to enter a password when getting messages (before or after 29th)

All my other accounts show the proper password in plain text, it also showed the password for this account that was changed a year ago in plain text - twice.

Question 1 Why does it show the password as being changed on 29th Dec when I haven't changed it, nor entered one on demand?

Question 2 Why has the password been set to what seems to be a 444 character Outlook cookie instead of the real password?

Additional info Going back to the password setting page of TB while I'm writing this post yet another password for this account has appeared. That also is set to what appears to be another Outlook cookie (different from the first one), with a date changed date of today!

I edited the password to the proper one in TB , shut TB down, reopened it and got my new messages (without a timeout this time) but my saved password is once again set to an Outlook cookie.

TB settings are Server Type: IMAP Mail Server Server Name: outlook.office365.com Port: 993 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth2

I apologize in advance for the language, I'm writing from a translator. Thunderbird on several accounts, every few days requires a password ... "login to the server failed, enter a new password". Just in case, I changed the passwords on these accounts (with the option to remember), a few days of peace and again the problem. However, logging in with the old passwords before and the new ones now on the server is no problem at all.

I reinstalled TB but unfortunately it doesn't help. The same on the stationary and laptop, what could be the problem? Currently, email is available only on the server, I do not have access to Thunderbird.

Я предполагаю что могут иметь значения следующие файлы: folderCache.json folderTree.json session.json parent.lock pkcs11.txt cert9.db key4.db logins.json times.json Поправьте если я не прав, имеет ли вобще смысл удалять их, авторизироваться заново.

Hello, I received an email from Spectrum (.TWC) that I needed to change my password by Nov. 11th. I did change it last evening. Now today I cannot receive my email via Mozilla Thunderbird, I receive the pop up to Enter the Password when I open it.

Then a second submit I added: -I came to search helps as to why I need to add the password every time I open Thunderbird's password. I searched and found something similar to what I am having problems with here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1525666

I removed the password that was there for years, I then shut Thunderbird, retyped the new password and it still does not work, and in the Settings Security Password there is no more the TWC in the list but only the hotmail account I have also in the list. Now I do not know how to ADD a new Password in the Settings Password. I am stuck there. No more emails coming in for two days now.-

Then the third submit I added: -I still cannot set the Password that the support above said to remove, I cannot add a new password and the settings shows that .twc is not on the list any more for Setting Security.

Also once in a while it shows a pop up at the right bottom of the page. I added it as an image.

Can someone please help me with this so I can get my .twc mail back. I tried myself and it does not work, I've read many Helps and it's not the issue that I have.-

I tried the original password, made several new ones and it still not working nor showing the .twc account password in the Settings, Security and Passwords area.

I am at a loss and need TB to work as it was before Spectrum informed that I need to change my Spectrum Password before Nov. 11.

Thank you for your time and efforts.
