I am currently using Thunderbird v 140.3.0esr.

I had recently started getting a pop up message for my yahoo a/c. The message goes ' Enter credentials for email on imap.mail.yahoo.com' and below it was a message 'too many attempts' it does not let me enter any information. If I copy the address in the message header into a browser it only brings me back to the pop up. It only pops up for this particular email account and not for any other ones installed.

I have tried changing the password through settings which hasn't made any difference. I can go into my account through a web browser which does not show any problems with external accounts.

I tried deleting the whole account line in password manager but this had again made no difference and I still got the pop up. I then deleted the whole account to re-install it again but it is failing to re-install as it gets stuck looking for the configuration settings and goes no further.

I have tried re-installing off line and it immediately finds the settings but I can't go any further as I need to be on line and to do that I therefore have to cancel the application.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Regards JL

Hi,

I'm trying to add another account to my Thunderbird client (already have 2, a IMAP account, and a Hotmail/Live/Outlook), but i keep getting the error "Exchange auth error" and no possible way to manually configure the server or anything, despite the mail server not being an exchange server. Following this, it just freezes the view, although i can close the popup by pressing escape.

is this a bug in the most current version of Thunderbird, or am i doing something wrong?

For reasons I can't fathom, Thunderbird and Google aren't speaking to each other at the moment. :)

have nuisance screens from Google that I cannot provide information in to resolve the problem. I believe that somehow Google is no longer recognizing passwords sent from Thunderbird and vice versa. I'm not receiving email in my Thunderbird inboxes.

My solution is to delete the affected accounts from Thunderbird and add them back. I have passwords.

Before I do this, I thought it prudent to ask the experts if this sounds like a good plan.

What say ye?

I tried Mozilla Monitor, logging in using my Mozilla account, but it wouldn't accept my UK address. It would only accept USA addresses. So I was not able to run the scan and reach the stage where you can delete the Monitor Account

Using the same personal data, but selecting a USA location, I ran the scan and then dieted the account successfully.

As I used the same email address for each attempt does the successful deletion on the second attempt mean all my Monitor accounts have been deleted?

ChatGPT indicates that this is the case but I would welcome further advice.

To all Thunderbird Tech Junkies -

I have been using Thunderbird for well over 20 years. But, this year it did me in.

My email, john@jtbcpa.com, was hosted by some no name outfit that was poor. It took forever for emails to send, and I could not update away messages..

I asked my internet guy to move my email from the old profile to gmail. I was hoping to keep my same profile and email on Thunderbird, without having to change to either Outlook or some other software to run email.

So, my internet guy moved the john@jtbcpa.com to Gmail. However, once he moved the email Gmail, Thunderbird, gave me several problems - as follows.

1. No matter how many times we tried to add the new email address to Thunderbird, it could not find the server. We tried multiple gmail settings. No go.

2. I am not the experienced in updating computers, but I had updated email on Thunderbird many times before. For both new accounts, and new computers. It took time, but I made it work. I could always find the files in the profile folder that I needed to copy and move.

However, the new Thunderbird would not allow me to go in and manually alter settings when it was looking for the john@jtbcpa.com account on Gmail. Thunderbird kept telling me it could not find the account on the server. And, manual setup was not available on the updated Thunderbird software. Why????

3. The email works fine when you go to the GMail web site.

4. Since I needed a better platform than the GMail website, we were able to load the john@jtbcpa.com email on Outlook. However, I did not have all my email addresses. (after 20 years I have about 2000 email address.)

5. I thought I could export the email address from Thunderbird to a CSV file and maybe load them into outlook. However, when I went to export, there was only one option to export and that was to export everything. Which included thousands of old emails and addresses from various email accounts. That was not going to help. What happened to the export tool which would download or export your email addresses only?

So, I have to look at the old emails in Thunderbird to get the email addresses.

I am not sure why the update to Thunderbird is so limited. I have loved the program for many years. It was easy to use.

And, I was always able to get all previous email addresses to work.

In conclusion, I am not sure why Thunderbird cannot recognize my john@jtbcpa.com account. It can see my other two gmail accounts, brozowski99@gmail.com and john@johncpa.com. Maybe the person who upgraded the account put some sort of block on it through gmail. I don't know.

I have spent hours on this transition, which should not have taken more than an hour. And, I even offered to pay someone to call me to help me with the platform. This is where internet online services and AI are useless. I need a tech savvy Thunderbird expert to call me, go on my computer, and make it work. But, all the responses I got was - "We will not do that."

So, I am forced to move to Outlook. I am not happy, and all the old emails will remain on Thunderbird.

I know the software was free. And, I was happy to pay someone to get it to work. Or, maybe look at my gmail settings to see if there is a blocker preventing Thunderbird from seeing the account.

No need to respond - I just needed to vent.

Hi,

Thunderbird: 142.0 (64-bit)

With Account Hub

When I try to add a mail account that I deleted before, I receive an error message:

  • Error Creating Account
  • Incoming server already exists.

When I add my email account, I receive the message, "Can't find a server," and Thunderbird adds the incoming server configuration somewhere. It's not in the "Account Settings" menu.

Without Account Hub

I deleted my profile folder and started from scratch.

I tried to use the same configuration settings I have in the mobile version of Thunderbird, but without success. Unfortunately, it's not possible to import the settings from Thunderbird Mobile.

I have the same problem with the Account Hub, or without it. How can I fix this problem?

Many thanks,

(I did) See attached image of the Settings panel Click on account actions. (Account actions does not appear) Make sure the account you want to delete is selected, then click remove account. Click on OK to delete.

The option Account Actions does not appear

If I remember correctly, the last time I had to remove an account, the option was located at the bottom of the left panel. I scroll down to the bottom of the left panel to Thunderbird Settings and there is no option listed to remove/delete an account.

Someone please help! Thanks, William

I setup and new email account for my website on NO-IP. I have two other accounts that were setup on earlier versions of Thunderbird that allowed manual configurations.

I started to add the account but got some warnings and quit. So I started over and now this latest update never gets to the manual update options. I get to the page, shown in the attached file, which never does anything. I can only press the Esc key and exit.

So I manually added the outgoing server, thinking that might work, but it did not. Any ideas how I can get the new email address working?

I want to remove one of my old email accounts. I need to use the Account Actions button, but it isn't showing. I've read everything about how to get the button to appear, but nothing works. I'm using the latest update to Thunderbird. My menu bar is showing. All the setting for each email account are showing. One suggestion was to click on the small button in the lower left corner, but the small button I have just opens the account settings, no Account Actions.

Is anyone familiar with this issue and how to get that Account Actions button to show?

Thanks for the help.

I'm running Thunderbird 140.1.0esr 64-bit on Windows 11, all up to date. I've tried several times to add a new account to receive email to the webmaster for my website. The email address is set up with my web host. I want to add the account so that I can test but the process hangs.

From the main page I choose Tools > Account Settings > New Account > Mail Account then provide the required full name and email address then click Continue. I get what appears to be a screen indicating that processing is taking place (the rotating circle) but it never concludes.

I used Webmaster as the user name and webmaster@mydomainname.com.

Can anyone suggest what I might do to fix this?
