I have been using Thunderbird as an email archive on my local system. Now I have several thousand emails with attachments and I need to extract the attachments for another application. Would it make sense to install a pre-V52 copy of TB and then use the Attachment Manager extension to handle the attachments and then upgrade to the current version.

Hi,

I have used Thunderbird for some years and it works well for me. I don't do anything fancy, just mail, calendar and tasks as a stand-alone user.

I'm migrating to a new pc. - I downloaded and installed Thunderbird. - I did not create any email accounts at this point. - I copied my profile from my old pc as per Mozilla support guidance. - Open Thunderbird - Now I can see my mail, folders and layouts perfectly.

But I cannot see anything at all to do with Events and Tasks. - Tools-Addons says Lightning is installed. - No 'Events and Tasks' in menu bar - No 'Calender' tab in Tools-Addon options-Lightning - No 'Events and Tasks' panel

From 'Events and Tasks' tab on old pc I have exported calendar (Home.ics) ready to import to new pc but I can see no option to import this.

I'm sure I must have done something wrong. I would be most grateful for any advice. I am not a tecchie; I am but a basic user.

thanks john

My Windows 7 desktop hard drive crashed, was using Outlook. All files were backed up onto a portable hard drive under a file header "Documents" which included all emails and contact information from outlook. Purchased a Windows 10 new desktop. Installed Thunderbird and can't seem to get Tbird to locate the files transferred to the new computer's hard drive. Thunderbird keeps wanting another email program to import from. All the data is there, just can't figure out how to get Thunderbird to look in the correct location!

Hi there

I have mail servers from a domain xxxxx.is (Iceland) mail servers are of the form mail.xxxx.is

Cannot create email address manually (IMAP) -- even when off line (Windows outlook works !!) as after the email entered it shows looking up configuration provider and endlessly goes on and on (V60 of Thunderbird)

none of the other options work -- advanced config does nothing etc etc.

Surely the whole point of MANUAL config is that is DOESN'T try and find ISP config from a database.

cheers

I also tried alternative ways:

1) exporting mbox folders tree from Mac Mail and importing them in MTB by "Import ..." tool. Nothing happens

2) copying the above mbox structure to MTB Local Folders: some actual folder name appears, but empty

2) linknig to MTB local folders the original V6 Mac Mail folders: some actual folder name appears, but empty

I am looking for a solution or a workaround compatible with my about 11.000 messages spread over hundreds of subfolders.

Thank you in aadvance and best regards, Luca

None of the solutions to importing address books work, since the 2 add-ons offered (morefunctionsforaddressbook and the other one, I think it's called gmail contacts) are for older versions of Thunderbird. This applies both to Windows Live Mail and Gmail. It looks like the .vcf files an only be loaded one at a time, which is no help. I saw a solution that involved installing an old version and then upgrading but that's not an option, since I used most of the day installing this and importing stored emails before discovering that I can't import my contacts in a batch.

Please help.

Recently I upgraded Thundirbird to the latest version.

Since then all the add-on's/extensions I use are flagged as "<name of add-on> is incompatible with Thundirbird 16.20.1"

a) How can I find for each add-in, which version of thunderbird does support it ? b) Or is there a config file of Thunderbird which shows which version of Thundirbird is installed (so that I can look it up in a recent partition backup of the Windows C drive when the plugin's still worked).

So that I can re-install / revert-back to the thunderbird version I used earlier, so that all add-in will work again.

PS: I checked if there were updates of these add-in's and updating them would solve this incompatibility problem. But for some of them, like the one I rely on, namely "Prevent Delete", no updated version is made and development is discontinued.

Thanks in advance for your help

For ease of use I have installed Thunderbird on my sister's laptop using Windows 7. All of her 3 email accounts were easily imported into Thunderbird and the many folders she had in Hotmail have all immediately appeared. However, there was no address book at all. I tried to use the Import tool in T'Bird and selected "import from Outlook" but nothing happened. I then went back to hotmail and saved the address back as a .csv file and used that with the import tool. I ticked all the relevant boxes (name, surname, email address). This time I got a list of surnames in the address book but no email addresses. What am i doing wrong? I would be grateful for any advice please?

After upgrading to Win10 on a 64 bit machine, INBOX appears normal. However, when any email in that INBOX is opened, the window that appears is a REPLY ALL window with the RFOM address being mine and the TO address being the sender of that particular email. I see an error message stating "A unique identity matching the From address was not found. The message will be sent using the current From Field and settings from identity <my email address>". What I would expect to see in this window would be the opened email displaying the name of the sender in the FROM field along with the options to Forward, Reply, Delete, etc.

Last week Thunderbird updated and 'broke' my folder sort order, which I rely on. (Thunderbird sorts alphabetically only as of years ago, needs an add-in for manual sort, this update broke the add-in.)

I rolled back to 52.9.1, redid my add-in & manual sorting, and checked NEVER CHECK FOR UPDATES.

Today Thunderbird updated AGAIN, AGAIN losing my sort order.

Why did it update when NEVER CHECK FOR UPDATES is checked, and how can I stop it from updating again??

Let's say I have lots of email accounts I'd like to set up as an account each, all with same custom server settings, only the username and password is the same.

Is there any way to quickly set this up, without having to go through the pain of the GUI wizard for each one and setting each account up individually? I also have custom settings like Sync settings I'd like the same for each account.

e.g

- duplicate an account would be good, then on and edit the one part that you need for each account. - add-on, I can't find one suitable - perhaps manual hackery in the Thunderbird profile?

Any ideas or tips?

I installed TB on a new computer, say C2. I used all the same Account Settings as I use on my old computer, say C1. On C1, in the Left Panel, under my Email Address, appear the Folders: Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk, and Trash.

However, on C2, the Folders Drafts, Sent, and Junk are missing. I use POP on both computers. How do I create the missing folders on C2?

Thanks in advance to any kind person with expertise to solve this problem.

I just got a new company email. I *believe* it's an Exchange server (don't know if that matters).

I can receive and send messages in Thunderbird, and the Inboxes match on TBIrd and Outlook Web Access. BUT, messages I've sent through OWA aren't in my TBird Sent Items, and vice versa. Likewise, folders I created in TBird didn't sync.

The setup looks the same as what I have for GMail on TBird, which syncs all those items flawlessly. Is there something I need to look for?
