Hi, Just got computer back from shop where - rather than upgrade - they did a clean install of Win11. I was under the impression from them they'd backup everything on a new "backup" drive they installed to double my capacity as part of the upgrade process.

They're version of backing up Thunderbird left me with a folder "Thunderbird_profile_backup.zip" that is 9,698,657kb in size.

I am attempting to install Thunderbird on the essentially new computer and restore all data from the previous installation.

Is this even possible anymore at this point?

I have data in that file that is important not only financially but archived family info from now deceased members... I'd really like to recover it.

In short help! lol.

Hi, I'm having issues moving a 10 year old Thunderbird installation on a Windows 10 Pro computer to a new Windows 11 Pro PC.

I looked at all the guides & prior support messages and followed the instructions carefully. My old Windows 10 installation was in a custom directory (G:/Program Data/Thunderbird). I ensured it was updated to the most current version and closed it before moving files. I installed Thunderbird on the Windows 11 machine, went to Troubleshooting Info and found the folder that it used for the profile (when I go to profile editor, there are 2 profiles listed in the new build - I verified that I was in the directory for the default profile). I then closed Thunderbird on the new PC.

The two computers are on the same network so I moved all the files from the old location to the new location via just drag and drop. Of note, I couldn't "go up 3 levels" on the original machine's directory as per the instructions because, well, there weren't 3 higher levels of directories - I just moved the Thunderbird to Thunderbird on the new PC.

When I open Thunderbird on the new PC, it still acts like it's a new installation, except I do have my Address book. I tried deleting the second profile it had created; no different. I tried creating a new profile and specifying a directory somewhere else (eg. C:\Program Data\Thunderbird) and moving the files there - no different. I tried copying (presumably inactive) Thunderbird folders from the old computer C:\Users\~\Roaming and \Local over to a similar location on the new PC - nothing changed.

Anybody have any other ideas of what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!

When I upgraded my ubuntu system from 22.04 to 24.04, I was compelled to accept the conversion of thunderbird to snaps. Now none of the applications -- like http handler -- will run because snap maps them all to something under /run/usr/... AND THEY WON'T RUN FROM THERE I cannot even use Help to make a donation! I need to be able to get to vivaldi, firefox, libreoffice and others. Every time I enter one in the application box, the snapper remaps to /run/user/... I try to find that location and it's not there -- of course it won't run! -- and the application won't work. screenshots attached

Tell me how to roll back from v128.3.1esr to a version without snaps -- without losing 10 years worth of email!

Hello there. I've followed the instructions in the appropriate support article and transferred our Thunderbird profile from a Widows 10 machine to a Windows 11. My profile as a .zip file is larger than the 2GB limit, so I used the Widows Explorer cut and paste. It's likely that I've done something slightly awry as one of my local sub folders hasn't transferred. Otherwise TB works fine. Is it possible to just restore the particular local folder, as I can find both the entries in my mail folder on windows explorer? However the view of the two entries looks rather different on the two computers when I compare a local folder that has transferred. Regards, Arthur

Herzlichen Dank.

T-Bird one Yahoo of six accts, repetitive “ENTER CREDENTIALS” My T-bird release: 144.0.1 (64-bit) Desktop: WIN 11 Pro – with all updates

For the last few days, I have not been able to obtain emails on my desktop T-Bird for one of my six Yahoo accounts. And, I cannot send any emails from the account

BUT, I can access the target Yahoo email account via my desktop Firefox, via Android T-Bird and via Android/Firefox. And all incoming and outgoing emails are present. Stymied, I changed the Yahoo acct password. After the change, these three work domains perfectly as before. And again, all incoming and outgoing emails are present.

BUT, the repetitive error with my desktop T-Bird for the one Yahoo account persists. The POP-UP provides a long string in the URL window and the only text shows: “Edge: Too Many Requests” >>>>>>>> I’m not using EDGE [Yahoo must use EDGE for the login error POP-UP] The window in the bottom Task Bar displays: “Enter credentials” [repetitively – ad nauseum].

This is the copy of the Yahoo URL in the POP-UP: https://login.yahoo.com/?src=thunderbird&client_id=dj0yJmk9NUtCTWFMNVpTaVJmJmQ9WVdrOVJ6UjVTa2xJTXpRbWNHbzlNQS0tJnM9Y29uc3VtZXJzZWNyZXQmeD0yYw--&crumb=mdAGY49jGd8&login_hint=name_of_email_acct%40yahoo.com&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost&pspid=954010027&activity=thunderbird-imap&done=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.login.yahoo.com%2Foauth2%2Fauthorize%3F.scrumb%3D0%26client_id%3Ddj0yJmk9NUtCTWFMNVpTaVJmJmQ9WVdrOVJ6UjVTa2xJTXpRbWNHbzlNQS0tJnM9Y29uc3VtZXJzZWNyZXQmeD0yYw--%26redirect_uri%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Flocalhost%26response_type%3Dcode%26scope%3Dmail-w I changed my email account name in the display above to: name_of_email_acct; all else is verbatim.

For clarity all six accounts work without encountering "Enter credentials" on the desktop via Firefox, my android via T-Bird app, my android via Firefox. Five of the six work on my desktop T-bird.

I did not add any extensions in the last week. I did disable all extensions (and restarted) with no change in behavior. I put a 25 cent piece on the keyboard to appease the computer gods – no change.

Yup: cleared cache and cookies. Deleted password from desktop T-Bird repository, but the new one is not recorded. Changed authentication from OAuth2 to Normal and back again- no change

Yes, I waited multiple hours to try again, with no luck.

Thoughts ????

I have added the android app to my phone and tablet but the messages are not synchronising fully with the version on my windows laptop. The 'sent' messages from my phone / tablet do not appear on my laptop although 'received' messages do. 'Sent' messages using the app do not appear in my Gmail linked account either. Any advice would be welcome please, it's a bit of a hassle having to keep checking things on separate machines.

Hello,

I received a new laptop with Ubuntu 24.04 and I'm trying to install Thunderbird. I have tried snap, flatpack, the downloaded package and nothing works. The only one that worked so far is https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/08/install-thunderbird-deb-not-snap-in-ubuntu-24-04 but this results in a different (?) thunderbird being installed, thunderbird-esr and there is no icon in the dock and I cannot pin it in the dock, which is a bit annoying. I saw there are other people having the same issue as me https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/cannot-install-thunderbird-because-it-is-not-allowed-by-dot-thunderbird-plug-rule/28878/13 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1538919/ubuntu-24-02-error-installing-thunderbird

The command `$sudo snap install thunderbird` gives the following error `error: cannot perform the following tasks: - Mount snap "thunderbird" (609) (installation not allowed by "dot-thunderbird" plug rule of interface "personal-files" for "thunderbird" snap)`

I also tried various commands offered in response to the questions linked above `$snap connections thunderbird` returns `error: snap "thunderbird" not found`

`$snap interfaces | grep personal` returns `119::personal-files firefox:dot-mozilla-firefox 'snap interfaces' is deprecated; use 'snap connections'.`

`$snap version` returns `snap 2.67 snapd 2.67 series 16 ubuntu 24.04 kernel 6.8.0-51-generic`

`$snap list --all thunderbird` returns `error: no matching snaps installed`

I also tried via the Ubuntu "App Center" and the Install button just keeps coming back. I expect it's running into the same error I have via the terminal and doesn't give any feedback in the graphic interface.

Please let me know what I must do to install Thunderbird via snap.

Thank you, Caroline

I can't find a setting that will allow marking messages as read only after I read them. By that I mean only after I click on the message to open it in its own tab. I view the new messages in a split screen.

The current settings allow me to leave them bold as if I hadn't read them even after I've clicked on the message and viewed it in the full TB pane

or

Mark them as read as soon as they're displayed in the bottom half of the split screen.

I don't find either of these options desirable.

UNABLE TO RE-ADD MAIL ACCOUNTS TO THUNDERBIRD For the last three or four months I have been getting two separate messages in the bottom of the screen when opening Thunderbird on my laptop. "GMAIL settings are out of date" and "Yahoo settings are out of date". Then, a about a month ago when I opened Thunderbird I noticed that it was trying to download almost 3000 Gmail emails. I had always believed that only new Gmail messages would download on start up? Whilst this was happening it was impossiblle to do anything on my laptop as I had limited internet access. The only way I could see to stop this was to delete my Gmail account from Thunderbird. When I opened Thunderbird I continued to get the messages "settings are out of date" for each of my mail accounts. So I deleted my email accounts from Thunderbird with the intention of re-adding them. I then downloaded and re-installed Thunderbird to ensure I was on the latest version. I then tried to re-add my mail accounts, letting Thunderbird find and load the correct email settings for each account but I now get an error message saying "Unable to Log In at Server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". Refer to attached screenshot. I can log in to my Mail Accounts OK using Firefox so I know my username and password are correct. I also tried adding my mail accounts manually in Thunderbird but I contiue to get the same message. I am unable to add my mail accounts to Thunderbird and I have run out of ideas regarding diagnosis and resolution. I need help please.

Long time thunderbird user but kinda at my wits end. I'm moving to a new laptop and I have noted that the export function does not like profiles larger than 2Gb. Mine is approx 10.5Gb. I followed what seems to be the suggested protocol

- install on new machine, don't create any account, close thunderbird - erase the profile folder and the profile.ini in the new install (I guess this is optional really) - close thunderbird on old machine - copy the protocol and .ini files from old machine to the new one. (there is only 1 file: 1rrz6vdm.default which

     seems odd maybe?)

- crank up the new thunderbird

Well, I get something, but basically it is a pale ghost of what is there in my old machine. Have tried dozens of variants on this process with no love.

Help? Thanks
