I get a message like this every time I start Thunderbird. The topic came up last year but the conclusion was along the lines of "...this problem will be fixed in version 128" but it was never clear whether or not the User followed Mozilla's support replies or what they had to do to clear the email message from Thunderbird. .....Well I'm running version 128.1.1esr and the problem still exists.
My questions:
1. What is Thunderbird trying to do? Compact individual email files? Compae from ct the whole Thunderbird Profiles folder?
2. Is the problem the size of the Profiles folder or the overall size of the hard drive the Profiles folder resides on? What is the Hard/solidstate drive is the maximum?
3. Is the problem related to the amount of Free Space left on the Hard/solidstate drive or is the issue the number of individual files?
4. Is the issue related to the number of Thunderbird files and/or folders OR is it related to the total number of files and/or folders on the hard drive?
5. Is there a limit to the number of sub-folder levels that Thunderbird can navigate?
Thank you.

I run a Synology DSM server on my local network. The website page to load locally inside my LAN is along the lines of 127.0.0.1:1001.
MacOSX 15.0.1 FireFox(FF) 132.0 (aarch64)
Previously accessing the DSM via the local IP address worked fine with no problems. Now, following one of the last couple of FF updates, I get an "unable to connect" message.
I also have a domain that routes to my local server and I can still access the DSM via the internet http address through FF. So I know that DSM is running fine and I have verified the settings within DSM.
I can load the DSM via the local IP in both Safari and Chrome. Only FF says it's unable to connect. So that shows that my DSM settings are fine and the page is available and loads in Safari and Chrome via the local IP.
I searched the forum and found similar postings, but not quite the same issue as mine. I deleted the cache & cookies/site data. I ensured the Proxy mode in FF is set to "No Proxy". I do not have any extensions running or themes.
I am at a complete loss at what setting in FF I need to change to restore this functionality.
Thanks, Matt

My system memory is reading at 57% right now in task manager, that the vast majority of that is being used by Firefox.
Why?
Normally, this would be called a flaw in the program, not the user, as all I have done in regards to settings is "keep tabs previous open when re-opening Firefox" and "Do not automatically update" because Firefox took it upon itself to not re-open my previous tabs on the last update.
Why is this program eating up all of that memory? I have "Firefox (15)" in Task manager under "Apps" and then 13 more instances of Firefox in "Backround Processes"
Wtf?

I have a HUGE problem with Firefox memory usage. Some open instances of firefox are taking anywhere from 600mb to 2.8gb of memory. Since firefox opens MANY instances even with only ONE active window, this very quickly uses all available memory (4gb) causing a full laptop crash.
More concerning is that CLOSING the worst instance of memory usage STILL leaves the single open page/tab open, so what exactly was the memory eating instance actually doing ???
I have included a screengrab of the many remaining instances of firefox in windows task manager AFTER closing the main culprit.
I have also included a screengrab of all the adblockers I use which I believed would limit unnecessary memory usage, but does not seem to be effective.
Many Thanks

Since updating Firefox I can no longer connect to known good sites without getting "Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue".
This includes U.S. government sites! For instance, try connecting to https://covidtests.gov/ .
Why completely block access to the site? Why can't I make exceptions or tell Firefox to accept the risk and continue?

When I right click on a document [Show More Options/Send To] Thunderbird email I get the following notice: There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs panel. I've been using TB for multiple years with zero problems, this started when I recently reloaded Windows 11 from scratch (due to a bot virus issue). I have reloaded TB 3 or 4 times. I have also tried creating an association to MapiMail which hosed my Send To link. I had to import a new Send To link from my wifes PC after restoring the registry entry for MapiMail. I have always used the 64 bit version, so the 32 bit version is not for me. I am out of ideas? Anybody else have this problem?

Went into Firefox and got the error message: Platform version 131.03 is not compatible with min version>=131.02 & max version>=131.02 So I'm thinking that the last update caused the error. I did a system restore to a week earlier, and after 5 hours, the computer rebooted to that date. Upon opening Firefox, I found the the notice that the next time Firefox opens, it will update. After closing, and reopening, Firefox updated and displayed the same error message. Nor quite sure what to do, I downloaded Firefox again, and was going to uninstall and reinstall. But as soon as the download finished, it loaded. So now I have the new Firefox without all of my saved bookmarks and passwords. I thought I'd read someplace that that wouldn't happen, and all of my password and bookmark history would transfer to the new Firefox. As if that wasn't enough to ruin my day, I found that the new Firefox isn't working in my wife's account on the same computer. She gets the same error message as I did before the new install. I know, my fault for not backing up the bookmark and password files, but what's my option now?

I have been having much trouble with Thunderbird. The latest problem is with the Sent folder. When I try to Compact Folders I get the message "The folder 'Sent on Local' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again."
I have plenty of disk space and have Full Control. I tried creating a temporary folder and moving all the Sent messages to it, so that Sent had zero messages. I still got the same message. The file listing showed Sent to have a size of 182 MB even though it didn't contain any messages. I've tried deleting sent.msf to force Thunderbird to recreate the index - didn't work. I tried using Repair Folder. That worked, but when I tried Compacting Folders again it found another folder with the same problem. I fixed that one and then it said the Sent folder was bad once again. I'm going around in circles!
I've deleted and recreated scores of .msf files for various reasons, trying to get Thunderbird to work without errors, but as soon as I get one problem fixed, another one crops up. I'd conclude that it's my computer, except that I'm not having any problems with other programs.
Any thoughts on this particular problem or Thunderbird problems in general? Thanks.

We recently update Firefox with version 138.0 and now getting the message "Gah. Your tab just crashed" when opening the browser.
We attempted to update and install version 138.0.1 only resulting with the same error. We also found and attempted the following all resulting with the same error: - change the about:config page for settings to false for both browser.tabs.remote.autostart and browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2
- clear browser cache.
- enable Temporary Mode in the Help menu. This appears to fix the problem but only for the current browser session. When a new Firefox window is opened, the error reappears.
What is needed to resolve this error or is there a way to permanently enable Temporary Mode or some similar setting? Thanks for all your help with this.

For some reason, IDM will not work in Firefox/DuckDuckGo. even though it worked a couple of weeks ago. I contacted IDM support who have tried everything they have, but no change.
Here is the issue: 1. I open Firefox (Duck Duck Go is my default) (132.0.2 (64-bit) 2. I type "vintage sci fi movies" 3. Click on "videos" 4. Pick any movie (example: The Phantom Planet (black and white but this does not matter) 5. In the Choose How you Watch, I click the left icon - Watch Here, and not Watch on YouTube; also click Remember my choice 6. The movie starts but there is no IDM dialogue 7. If I then click Watch on YouTube inside the movie, it switches to YouTube and the movie starts, AND the IDM dialogue pops up.
As I said, this worked in Firefox/DDG a couple of weeks ago.
IDM version is 6.42 Build 23, full (paid for) version Oct 15 2024 The IDM Integration Module in Firefox shows as Version 6.42.22, last updated Oct 28 2024.
Can you assist please.

Hi!
I've noticed dropped frames in videos for a while now, but only recently tested the issue. Using youtubes stats for nerds, I found that when videos have a small viewport resolution, it starts to drop frames. (I would test with other sites but only know of youtubes stats for nerds system to detect issues like this) For example a viewport resolution of 1250x703 does not drop frames, however by unmaximising the screen and the viewport resolution drops to 681x383, it begins dropping frames.
Using my 2nd monitor which has a smaller actual resolution, the video drops frames unless fullscreened, see recordings below. Test A | Firefox Maximised but video not fullscreen Test B | Firefox Maximised and video fullscreen This issue also occurs with picture-in-picture mode.
Disabling hardware acceleration fixes this issue but for some reason only affects firefox, using MS Edge with "graphics acceleration" enabled does not result in this issue. Is this potentially an issue specifically with how firefox handles hardware acceleration? Also since I require hardware acceleration to be enabled for 3D model work in my browser, is there something I'm missing here that would allow me to keep hardware acceleration on but not have this issue?
Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

In the last few days, the common Cloudflare widget required to login to many web sites has abruptly stopped functioning in my browser. I'm trying to diagnose what's caused it. I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice.
I noticed the issue on nexusmods.com, but I've confirmed it's a universal problem on ANY site that uses Cloudflare protection. I've continued to use Nexus as my test case.
Observed behavior: 1) The Cloudflare widget loads 2) It displays a checkbox noted, "verify you are human." 3) I click the checkbox. 4) It immediately begins "thinking" (spinny circle and "verifying...") for about nine seconds. There is an "error" message that appears during this, but no details are offered (see screenshot) 5) The widget reloads. 6) Go to step 2
This is an infinite loop.
Fixes attempted: - Disabling all extensions (uBlock, NoScript, Privacy Badger, Decentraleyes) - Clearing cache - Updating to the most recent FF build - Accessing in a private window - Changing DNS settings from Cloudflare to NextDNS - Disabling DNS over HTTPS altogether - Disabling HTTPS-only mode

So I can open up Youtube no problem, scroll around and even hover over a video for the preview. However the moment I click on a video the tab will crash. I check if this was the case for other video streaming sites. HBO Max has the same issue while Amazon prime doesn't crash however has a message saying there is a problem with the video player. Now I checked if videos can work on another browser (Microsoft Edge), and there are no issues. I have cleared the cache, disabled extensions, checked for updates [update to date: 132.0.1 (64-bit)], restarted Firefox from troubleshooting mode, enabled autoplay, checked if videos work in private mode, updated my graphics card driver, and even checked if Firefox's volume is muted (its not).

I have tried: • Safe Mode • Installing the Flatpak and testing in that, which also has a fresh profile as I don't use the Flatpak version • Testing different related about:config settings – I can't remember them all now, but I tested every one I found googling that is related to the issue or hardware acceleration.
Hardware acceleration is for sure working. Turning it off makes the video drop to one or two FPS.
Chromium has no problem with the same video. However, you can see from the screenshots that both read the resolution/scaling of my screen differently, and it implies that Firefox is rendering something like 6314 x 3552 while Chromium is rendering at UHD, the resolution of the screen and my video. If I turn off all my Global Scaling, Firefox stops dropping frames (the same info box on YouTube states resolution is UHD), reinforcing my theory about scaling being the issue. Both are confirmed to be using native Wayland.
