Recently clicked to update to the next version of Firefox. Then I get the message "Restart to Update Firefox." I restart Firefox but the message is still there when I click Help > About Firefox. It would appear that the update did not happen for some reason. Do I need to re-install Firefox to get around this problem?

Recently we've began installing Firefox 140.2.0esr to our environment via the .msi file that Mozilla provides, however we're running in to a very odd incident.

After approximately 24 hours from installing Firefox esr to devices, it appears that the application is "updating" to 141.0.3 on the "release" channel. As far as I'm aware, this shouldn't be possible to begin with. But we've applied these settings via GPO:

Computer Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Mozilla > Firefox Application Autoupdate = Disabled Pin updates to a specific version = Enabled = Set to 140.2.0 Background updater = Disabled Disable Update = Enabled Manual Update Only = Enabled

After applying the GPO, confirmed this appears within the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\ AppAutoUpdate = 0 AppUpdatePin = 140.2.0 BackgroundAppUpdate = 0 DisableAppUpdate = 1 ManualAppUpdateOnly = 1

At this point, I'm at a loss. We cannot have rapid release be what's installed in our environment. Is there something broken with 140.2.0 or are we doing something wrong here?

I haven't updated Thunderbird since version 52.9.1 because of the interfaces which are painful for me and I don't see much. it still works well but does not support encrypted emails. I would like to install a recent version of TB but how can I make it look like the older, much more configurable versions? Please tell me if this is even possible.

Dear helpers,

I want to upgrade the hardware of a friend - and so I moved the homedir of the user to the new system, as I have done every time before in my life. But in this special case Thunderbird will not start with the used profile.

Thunderbird generally starts with e.g. the -P switch. But it will not start the default profile of the user. I tried to go this way concerning the versions 115 -> 128 -> 140 without success. I deleted all lock files, if there were any. I spent a lot of time with e.g. copilot - but it could not help me. I'm at a loss.

Is there any documentation with a kind of step-by-step instructions? Can you give me a hint, please?

Here are the details:

Source: linux mint 20.2 uma Thunderbird 115.18.0esr 11th of december 2024

Destination: linux mint 22.3 zena Thunderbird 140.7.0esr

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm running Thunderbird on Mac OS 15.3. I have two POP accounts in Thunderbird; the configuration has been stable for years. This evening, I went to add a new account, and Thunderbird seemed to have decided to update itself, including flipping me over to Chrome where it opened a page about Supernova.

Thunderbird relaunched and came up with an empty "Chat" window. My usual mail window is gone -- and I can't get it back. I can't get an "About Thunderbird" window to open.

I actually can't figure out what happened. My mail appears to be gone. My accounts seem to be gone. I can't open Settings, I can't open Account Settings.

Wait, the mail accounts seem to still exist -- I can tell Thunderbird to check mail, and the POP server shows the checks happening -- but if I send mail to myself, nothing opens. Also, all of the Layout menu options are greyed out.

Help? :-)

Thanks, Vince

Second post trying to figure out what is going on.

I'm getting the notification that I need to update Firefox, so I click the "download" button which takes me to "https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?reason=manual-update", I select the "Download Firefox" button and after a few seconds I get a "Secure Connection Failed" message.

Usually I can just open Chrome and download the Firefox installer but today I'm getting an error stating that "download.mozilla.org" is using certificates from a different website.

Is the download site busted, or is this just a me issue?

Signed on to Thunderbird a couple of days ago to see a message about a new release. Seeing no way around it, I went for the update. Thunderbird now opens to a screen asking for an account setup. Name, email, and password--which I assume is the main email server (AOL in this case). I fill this in, click on test, and Thunderbird comes back with an available POP3 configuration it found, which is not the one I have been using for several years. I try it out, Thunderbird tests the password and finds something in the password or configuration that doesn't work. I try a manual configuration the the correct pop3 and smtp addresses and get the same result. I am at a complete loss at this time. This is all I get when I try to open Thunderbird--none of the usual email boxes, calendar, contact screens at all. I cancel the setup and get an option to continue and potentially not have access to some features, or exit. I click on exit and a new screen opens with file tabs for email, calendar, address book, and tasks. Looks nice, but there is no data brought forward on any of these tabs, and email looks like it has not been set up (no surprise--no inbox or preview box).

Any ideas on how to complete his setup and bring the data in, or on how to go back to the previous release and uninstall the new version?

Hello,

Moving from an older Ubuntu 18.04 machine where Firefox is limited to version 113 to a newer machine running Mint 22 where the current version is 134.

I know how to transfer the profiles but I could not find any information on compatibility.

Would I need to install other versions before 134 to handle any changes?

Thank you

How can I stop Thunderbird from displaying its own advertising/donation page on my browser when I open Thunderbird? It opens this page on my default browser, no matter which is chosen: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/128.0/whatsnew/?locale=en-US&version=128.6.1&channel=esr&oldversion=102.8.0 If the browser is not open, it will open it.

This is the result of trying to keep Thunderbird from automatically upgrading. In newer versions, the option to choose not to upgrade has digressed from difficult to not available. It did such an upgrade, so I de-installed and reinstalled my original version, only to have this issue.

I was very satisfied with my old version AND see no need for new any of the "features" or look. And, especially, once such a setting is made, don't want Thunderbird, or any other application or app, changing it back. This is a violation of privacy at best.

Worse yet, Thunderbird is attempting to penalize the customer for making a choice on their own computer by infecting the machine with nuisanceware.
