I just installed thunderbird on a new install of windows 11 25h2 and added my email account. When I click on a message a yellow banner appears at the top of the message. Previously there was a options button I could click that would allow showing the remote content. There is no longer a options button and I cannot get thunderbird to show remote content.

Hi Folks,

I want to seek opinion on how to manage the virus detected in emails (or its attachments) through Kaspersky Anti Virus.

I have large no of emails in TB stored in mbox format. Around 30GB in Inbox and another 5GB in Sent, etc. I also use Kaspersky Internet Security which has anti-virus also active.

Now my anti virus detects some infected emails. How to clean the infected virus emails / attachments.

Question: 1) When using mbox file on TB, is Kaspersky capable to delete ONLY a single specific infected file from the entire mbox data without any corruption of mail data? 2) If not, how to setup the anti-virus to automatically clean, disinfect and delete/quanrantine individual mail. ?

3) Is MailDir a better way to save emails in profile and use anti-virus. There is a warning on Maildir saying its still not settled and may have bugs. Is that true even today ?

Thanks & Regards, Tejas

Today, using Firefox--or at least what i think is Firefox--i checed session history while logged into my mega.nz account. It lists 2 instances, one of which is for 3 days prior when I originally set up the Mega account using the Mega app, and the other is for yesterday when I entered the account using the FF browser--or, again, what i think is the FF browser. What's curious is that it shows i was using the Chrome browser, and that I'm apparently still using this browser as it's listed as the "Current" session. How can this be? While I have the Chrome app on my phone, I disabled it long ago and have never used it, and most certainly did not use it during the time and activities in question. I have long speculated that I have been hacked and that my phone is sometimes (always?) controlled by this hacker, though no solid proof. Assuming the hacker uses Chrome, could this be reflecting their using the Chrome browser, as opposed to the FF browser, which I'm currently using (or think im using)? In other words, is this the proof of a hack? Or is this a glitch within Mega, mistakingly listing Chrome as my browser?

Trying to install Thunderbird on a new computer, when I get to the "set up your existing email address" and fill in the information and click the "done" box. A dialogue box pops up and indicates:

You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site. Legitimate banks, stores, and other public sites will not ask you to do this. Location: ___________________________ Get Certificate This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information. Wrong Site The certificate belongs to a different site, which could mean that someone is trying to impersonate this site.

It then goes on asking if I want to make a security exception.

Is this a legitimate site for my Thunderbird install? I'm not very computer literate and concerned to make a mistake that could cause problems. Please help me with this as I need to get my email working on this computer. Thanks, Gary

Context: Windows 11 23H2, Thunderbird Portable (102.15.1, stubbornly declining updates until the Supernova IU starts looking tolerable), Avast Antivirus. Multiple email accounts on various servers, all POP3.

For the last several months (not sure when it started, but I first took a screenshot in October 2024, so perhaps that was the first time), after each time I reboot my PC, the first time I send an email using one particular account will trigger a complaint about a bad certificate, which is probably caused by Avast getting in the middle of the process. Clicking "View..." opens a tab with certificate information. I'm attaching screenshots.

I assume my other accounts also had a similar complaint when they were first used, but it has been a long time since I added a new account and they are all quiet now. But on this account, I get it the first time I send mail (normally a reply to someone else - this is not my default account for new messages) after each reboot. When I click "Confirm Security Exception" with the "Permanently store this exception" checkbox checked, the next thing I get is "Send Message Error" (see the third screenshot), then I click OK, and then I can hit "Send" again and the message is sent with no complaints. Then I can also send future messages with no complaints until the next time I reboot. (I don't reboot often - normally just when Windows needs to do an update.) This is the only account on Dreamhost (others are InMotion or Google), but other than that, there is nothing special about it, as far as I know. Why is it forgetting my "permanent" exception? Is there a setting somewhere that I should look for?

I just now tried following the instructions on this page: https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/troubleshoot-invalid-antivirus-email-certificate But it says, "This certificate is already installed as a certificate authority." Perhaps that is because I have already gone through the process for this reboot cycle, but if TB needs a new Avast certificate or exception each time I reboot (due to something changing in Avast, perhaps), I'd think the first email I send through any server would ask for the exception, but it's never any other account - just this one Dreamhost one. Fortunately it's just an inconvenience, not a showstopping problem, but it would be nice to solve it eventually.

Few questions - I have made a number of attempts to set this up.

It did not automatically connect the first few times I tried. So I read the info on how to configure manually, but I could not locate the info within my protonmail account to do this. I made another attempt and now this message comes up:

"You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site. Legitimate banks, stores, and other sites will not ask you to do this." (See image below.)

What do I do?? I am concerned about messing something up. It didn't give me an option to configure manually this time.

Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks, Anita

This is my second request for help. I want to thank those who tried to help me before, but nothing has changed. When I open Firefox I immediately receive three messages, approximately 4 inches wide and 3 inches long on the right side of my browser, covering the areas I need to get to. They claim to be from Mozilla Firefox, have the Firefox logo on the top left, warning that I have a virus, or my files are infected, or a large Alert! And that I need to click "here" to fix the problem. It shows a strange "address" a string of random letters and the odd number and the words "merge network protocol." I did not click on this, or the "dismiss" that is shown. I did, however, click the X in the top right corner of one of these. It disappeared for about three seconds and was immediately replaced by another warning of some type. These messages do not go away when I leave Firefox, they follow me wherever I go. Restarting the computer gets rid of them, but I can't access Firefox without them returning. I have tried to alert Mozilla about this, but have not heard back. Any suggestions?

My provider uses IMAP, not POP3. I am transitioning to a new computer. My entire work and personal emails over the last 10 years are on this computer. A loss of emails would be really, really bad for my work. I use my Thunderbird account on two devices: a main laptop and a small travel laptop. It's nice to have them synched, but not essential due to limited use of my travel laptop.

Currently all of my old emails are in IMAP folders on the new computer. My questions:

(1) Which is better protected from loss of emails, IMAP folders or local folders? On the one hand, I occasionally destroy a computer by doing something dumb like spilling water on it. But does it ever happen that a provider permanently loses emails, like a major server crash?

(2) To what extent is loss of privacy an issue with IMAP storage folders? Is there any history of privacy incidents with IMAP folders?

(3) If I move emails from IMAP to local folders and then delete the IMAP folders, will my emails be permanently saved in the local folders? I did an experiment and the answer seems to be yes.

(4) Considering the above questions, is it best to store emails in IMAP or local folders? Is there any significant difference?

For some time now I have not been able to access any website secured with Captcha verification. My browser doesn't recognize that I'm a human and keeps going back to square one. Importantly: this problem does not occur in other browsers. However, I would prefer to stay with Mozilla, so it will be nice if something can be done with it. I didn't change any settings, I didn't change hardware, I didn't reinstall Mozilla, so that's not the problem. I've looked through my security settings and don't see anything that would help in this case. Especially since these are websites that I had previously accessed and logged in without any problems.

For a long time, while the Number Lock light is "on" on my keyboard, Firefox does not recognize that it's on. This should be a basic binary. 0=0, 1=1. 1 should never equal 0.

I have to got into another program and type numbers there to get it to work. But it doesn't last. I hate it when I'm trying to do something quick and I have to fight with something that I should NEVER have to fight with.

How to I get Firefox to ALWAYS recognize that Number Lock is on when it is on?

Im new to thunderbird. Even though I have created a main password I find that I suddenly I can open the application and view accounts and even security info, without putting it in anyway. I press cancel and the application opens and I can see accounts.

I havent saved the password anywhere so its not automatically being filled in. Is this just for offline access? How can I tell if my accounts are secured and what my offline/ online status is when using thunderbird?
