Why does TB freeze on Attach/File(s)?

I am using TB version 24.3.0 on Windows XP. This problem has only been occurring since I updated to the latest version of TB. When I select Attach/File(s) the pop-up file-selection window opens at the directory that was most recently used for selecting an attachment (about a week ago) and then everything freezes! When I try to close the pop-up, Windows says "not responding" and then TB crashes and the email I have been compiling is lost. Therefore I cannot select any attachments at all - I cannot even hit the "Attach" button or any unsaved data is lost.

For example, I was sent an email with 10 pictures attached. When I log into my gmail account online I can access all ten pictures but the same email in my thunderbird only has 6 pictures attached.

Ever since we have had Thunderbird, we have not been able to add any addresses to the address book. Weird thing is, we added one address when we first started, and that address is saved! But after that and ever since, no other addresses are saved when we add them. Here's what happens: We add a new contact, input the info and click OK. While Thunderbird is still open, the contact appears to be saved in the address book, and can be viewed. But as soon as Thunderbird is closed, and reopened, the address disappears and we are left with only that one address we added when we first started and nothing more. Hope someone can help with this!

Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.

I have to Ctl,Alt, Del to close Thunderbird.

Recently I have been unable to send mail from one of two accounts which are both aol. One of them is netscape. They both use the same outgoing server "smpt.aol.com" I tried the suggestion of deleting the password for the netscape account (the one from which I cannot send). Now I get a 5.7.1 sender address rejected. I'm sure it is a settings problem and probably one dealing with passwords, but I cannot resolve it. Help!!

Hi, I created an html signature in Thunderbird about 2 months ago and, up until this morning, it was working just fine. Now, when I save or send an email, I get this message (I use Thunderbird un French so this is a translation): "A problem occurred during the insertion of a98h.png in the message file. Do you want to continue sending the message without the file?" The strange thing is that there are 3 images in my signature and only 2 seem to be causing a problem. All 3 are hosted on Imageshack. I even tried re-uploading them and using new urls, but I get the same problem. Do you know why I have this problem? Thanks,

I believe this started happening after the latest update, but I can't be sure. I've been using thunderbird email for many years and have had no issues whatsoever, but in the last month or so, often when I send a message, the application will freeze, you will see the 'sending message', then that popup will freeze(and look different), the whole application freezes, if you wait about 1 minute, it will come back and all seems well, sometimes I have to 'x' out and close the program. My platform is windows 8.1. I have tried loading with no add-ons, still same issue, reboot doesn't help and it does not happen everytime.

I use roadrunner email through Brighthouse. My settings are correct and have been verified. I can receive email, but cannot send. I do send email to about 600 recipients. It is my understanding that the limit is 1000. Is there a default set that I can modify? Or do I have another problem. Complete error message is:

I've used TB for years, and recently upgraded to a new computer with Windows 8.1. I installed the latest TB 24.4.0 and email accounts, and started to set up filters. I found that if I set up a filter and then immediately Run it that it works, but if I set up a filter and didn't immediately Run it, it would not run at all, whether manually or when restarting. I've even tried changing the filter to see if it would run, but it won't work at all. All the usual settings are in place, but it won't run, and the filter log doesn't show any activity.

I reinstalled OS X 10.6.8 on one of my computers, and now when I try to configure Thunderbird, the three email addresses through my web hosting provider will not configure. My Google and AOL addresses configured fine with no issue. In the past, Thunderbird's auto-configure feature has worked great for all my email accounts, but I cannot get these to work with automatic or manual configuration. Now to make things worse, I tried to check my email from my other computer which also uses Thunderbird on OS X 10.6.8, and now it cannot access either of those three email accounts either and gives a "time out" error. My hosting provider says the problem is not with them, and since I can still receive emails to my Android phone I tend to believe them. Please help, my next step is to try another email client.

When I reply to emails they are all being received and show in my outbox but they don't always show as being replied to- the icon beside the subject fails to appear. It seems to be at random- sometimes the icon does appear- and it has only been happening in the last week or two, yet I've been set up on Mozilla for over 7 years. We've also been seeing emails that have been open remain showing as unopened. The two different problems started happening at the same time and are occurring on 2 different computers (1 Windows7 1 OSX10.9.2). But it doesn't happen when replying to or collecting email on my iPhone. Any clues how to resolve? It doesn't stop work but is a real nuisance to not be sure what is replied to. Any help appreciated. I have 4 important email accounts in one Thunderbird profile. Some kind of corruption is suddenly causing Thunderbird to no longer send the godaddy password: "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.secureserver.net responded: authorization failed Check your server settings.". I have thoroughly checked and rechecked the password & server settings with no luck. Now down to 'create new profile' and then reload the email history. Sounds maybe easy BUT: only 1 email account is the problem; can't simply use mozbackup because that will also backup whatever is causing this; so I need to do this manually and the problem is that all 4 email accounts are in a single "profile". So how do I separately Identify and map the various 'profile' email files to each of the 4 different email accounts in a new profile. I need to identify and separate the email data from the account profile data so that I don't transfer the possibly corrupted profile data into the new profile. I can re-input the profile data manually for each email account. It's the data I need to keep together with active email accounts. Am I on track with this or should I just transfer everything to Outlook?

I sort out webmails etc. for a cmte of volunteers. I usually have some problem setting up Thundebird for each of them but succeed in the end (it's usually a typo somewhere). I'm finally stumped with one issue. I can set up my Thunderbird on my pc to access this one account, but when we tried it on her work laptop we couldn't get the configuration to work. The webmail account is provided by Namesco - I always have to do the configuration manually. The operating system is Windows 7 - I did remember to change the firewall settings, but this didn't help. Thunderbird was installed from fresh very recently.

The problem would appear to be an issue with her laptop, but I can't think what else might be preventing Thunderbird from configuring the account. Access to the internet (via wi-fi) was working. Apparently her IT people aren't that helpful and anyway, it's not really a work issue. There didn't appear to be any restrictions with downloading and installing. I'm pretty sure we tried the 'Run as administrator' option too. Any ideas?

I,ve been using Thunderbird successfully on my HP Pavilion p6060a (Vista) including attaching documents (pdf and/or Word) to outgoing emails via the notice that appears at the end of the draft email when the words "attach" or "attached" are inserted. However, in the past few days this facility has not worked, and when attempted, leads to a "crash" of Thunderbird. I've tried uninstalling Thunderbird and reinstalling it but it still doesn't help. I've also sent off several reports of the crashes to Mozilla with no response. Help!

I've tried all the fixes, but TB is soooooooooo slow to delete messages 9-30secs each time.

For the last several days, TB quits responding for 9-30 seconds. This happens when I try to delete an e-mail or open it. If I hit delete 2 times when it;s not responding, it will eventually delete 2 emails. I have tried top disable all the add-ons-no change; 1 deleted and re-indexed the global-df etc-no change. Help Doxmail

For some reason, thunderbird (windows 8) has essentially stopped working. Over a minute to open an email--all other functions have similar delays. I tried to archive, but I keep getting a message that says that a script has stopped working. It does the same in thunderbird safe mode. My old computer (XP) works fine. I can't find my profiles on windows 8 to rebuild the global database.

I just installed the latest release of Mozilla Thunderbird (24.4.0) and I'm trying to create a "Vacation Response". I read on the Mozilla Support site:

Another option is to create a Message Filter and respond to all incoming messages with a template.

I've created a template and saved it and then I tried to create a message filter. However there is not an option to "Reply with Template" in the list of choices for the action to perform. I see action choices, for "Copy Message To", "Move Message To" and "Forward Message To", but not "Reply with Template".

Why is it missing and how to I get it to appear?
