I just installed the new Firefox version (131.0.2) and the installation gave me a new desktop lnk (the old one is still on the desktop). The new link (to an .exe file in "C:...\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox\browser") starts the new version of Firefox in its newborn virgin state, i.e., EVERYTHING from my previous version is missing.

The old link (which points to an identical .exe file in a completely different directory "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser" with same date stamp as the .exe file mentioned above) when executed results in an error message: Platform version '131.0' is not compatible with

                                                                                              minVersion >= 131.0.2
                                                                                              maxVersion <= 131.0.2

NOTE: The files in each of these two directories appears to be identical. I really want my old profile back.

HELP!

Last week my TB stopped working all of a sudden, wasn't doing anything, no errors messages at all. I reinstalled it and it picked right up where it left off. Now today, I come in and again it won't work, but now it says it is because of my profile being for an older version. How did my profile get updated to a newer version and since I just updated my TB to the latest version, why isn't it working now?? I tried to go back to the version from last week and it still doesn't work, but it also doesn't work with the newest version. I really need my profile to work and I'm really upset about this. Can anyone help?

When I opened Thunderbird today, I was greeted by a giant red message warning, "This is an unsupported version of Thunderbird!! Thunderbird monthly releases are not considered stable for general use." By following a provided link to the "latest stable version of Thunderbird," I found that was version 128.3.0esr.

I did not request an update. I did have Settings> General> Updates set to "Automatically install updates", so I suppose that is how I got this version. But how was I pushed to an unsupported version? Do I need to turn off automatic installs to be protected from this in the future?

Dear Thunderbird team I am an avid user of TB (home desktop Windows PCs), but I have been resting on my laurels on v78 for a few years now. I know, shame on me. I would like to upgrade to a stable "modern" release (emphasis on "stable" please). Can you please advise if I should aspire to end up on 115 or 128, and how I might get there ? From reading some older blogs, there is advice that says.... first go to v91, then v102, then v115, and so. That seems a bit tortuous, but I am happy to do so if that is still the recommended approach.

Also, can you advise on how I manage my Profile through all this, do I need to do various exports/imports as I move through these different versions, etc.

I am using windows 10 and since the last update I noticed a duplicate firefox icon is opening everytime I clicked on the main firefox icon. Attaching a screenshot.

After your most recent update, a tab preview is now displayed when hovering the mouse over background tabs. I don't like it at all and want to delete/remove/stop it, but can't find any way to do it. Please help.

I can't launch Firefox -- has never happened. I just need quick fix - don't have time to learn as I have Dr. appt. to get to! Got error msg.: re whatever update sent today was not compatible with whatever I already have, but I didn't write down the numbers -- they were identical, just new and older version.

What's the recommended way to update the product globally across Windows and Mac? This would include users with various versions installed but I would rather not download each. Is there a single update command that could be run without user intervention?

Windows 11 home computer with Mozilla Firefox version 122.0 from 1/23/2024 cannot be removed even in safe mode. When attempting to remove there are no errors, it just fails to go to next step when select uninstall. This version will result in a pop-up error of 'Couldn't load XPCOM.' A later version of Firefox worked with no issues. When the user accidently selects older version or at random times without user interaction the pop-up error appears.

Have not attempted to edit the registry.

Suggestions for steps to remove so a current version of Firefox can be installed would be appreciated

Whenever a new version of Firefox is installed the number inside the parenthesis increments by one.

I was wondering why this number is there in the first place.

An example would be when you go to a shortcut for firefox, what you see is something like Firefox (x), x being a number. In my case it is 60. Firefox(60).lnk and if I try deleting it, I am then asked if I want to make it Firefox (61).lnk
