I updated my TB to version 148 (from 140) on a Linux Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 64-bit. After the update, events recorded in my Gmail personal account, keep popping up and do not allow neither Dismiss or Snooze - Buttons not even work. If you close the reminder window, the Reminder window pops-up a few minutes later.

Interesting is that beyond my personal Gmail account I have a couple other in Google Workspace and they work well. It is something only related to Gmail personal.

"Read Only" in Calendar Properties is unchecked

There is currently no setting in the Thunderbird calendar for a recurring date on the "last workday" of each month. This is very necessary for certain recurring dates, such as payments issued online monthly on that date.

This function is included e.g. in the Nextcloud calendar app, but not in the Thunderbird mail calendar.

Is this something coming soon?

Thank you very much.

I have this issue with my reminders for peoples' birthdays. I have an event on their birthday that comes from my Google contacts. That event has a reminder 1 week in advance. When the 1-week mark hits, I get an undismissable notification from Thunderbird. I can close the reminder window, but it'll show back up within a minute or two. I've tried removing and re-adding this calendar but it doesn't matter. When I look at the details for the event, I see that the Organizer field is Unknown Organizer <unknownorganizer@calendar.google.com>. My regular email address is listed as an attendee. This has been happening for at least the last several months, perhaps more than a year.

I have a professional email address and a gmail address configured correctly in thunderbird. I also have a number of google calendars configured in lightning using the built-in google calendar support (i.e., I am not using the old google calendar plugin). Until recently, when I received and accepted a calendar invitation sent to my professional email address, thunderbird would ask to which calendar I wanted to save the invite. I would select the calendar I wanted and it would be saved appropriately.

A week ago, I created a new google calendar and added it to thunderbird/lightning using the built-in google calendar support. Now, when I accept a calendar invitation, it automatically goes to the new calendar (which is generally not appropriate) without asking me to choose. Furthermore, I am unable to edit these calendar events to change the calendar they are associated with. I have checked the properties of both the new and old calendars and they look the same.

The only seeming solution I found was to make the new calendar read only and disassociate it from an email address, and then undo both those options. For the time being, this operation seems to have gotten back the option to select which calendar invites are saved to. But I would still like to know if this was the correct solution and better understand how thunderbird chooses to save event invitations.

How do I import *.ICS file in a reasonable amount of time. I have appointments in an ics file of less than 1 K in size, typically 700 - 800 bytes in size and they take HOURS to import and do not connect properly then to allow editing the appointment. This is from Baylor Scott and White, a major hospital system in Texas. If there is a problem with the imported file structure, please point me to the correct file structure. I like Thunderbird, but this part of the calendar is very frustrating. Clarence

For many years I have had a Thunderbird Calendar, and have a large number of Tasks set up in it. I have now decided it would be convenient to link it to my Google calendar, so that it also shows on my new Windows 11 machine and on my laptop. I've gone through the process described in the "Create new calendars" article, to link the calendars, and the Google calendar is now appearing in the Thunderbird calendar, but not vice versa. How do I get the Tasks in the Thunderbird calendar to appear in the Google calendar?

I am running Thunderbird 140.7.1esr and Firefox 147.03 on my Windows 10 machine, which I used to set up the link. My Windows 11 machine has the same Firefox build, but Thunderbird 147.0.1, and the Google calendar display is the same, but I haven't yet set up the Thunderbird calendar on the new machine.

I’m trying to filter Calendar events by Category and then sort the results by Start Date. Currently, I can use the “Search All Events” feature to display events and sort them by Category, but I’m unable to apply multiple sorting criteria or filter the results to show only a specific Category before sorting by another field.

Is there a way to first filter events by a specific Category and then sort those results by Start Date? What would be the correct approach to achieve this?

I have been using ThunderBird on Linux Mint for some time now. I am using Outlook.com for emails, calendar and contacts and I sync with another laptop and mobile phone. All fine until a few days ago when I noticed calendar events were not syncing with my phone. I found one calendar event in ThunderBird had an error when I manually synced with TbSync. The error report did not say anything specific. I deleted this calendar event and TbSync ran successfully uploading 2 events that it had not uploaded due to the calendar sync error. I then wanted to manually recreate this calendar event in ThunderBird. When I clicked on "New Event", the Calendar New Event pop-up window did not appear. When I minimised the ThunderBird window, the New Events was not behind it. The ThunderBird icon pinned to the panel had a "2" in the corner. When I hovered over the ThunderBird icon in the panel, it showed both the ThunderBird window and New Event window preview. When I selected the New Event preview window in the panel, it still did not become visible. All I could do with with New Event preview window in the panel was click in the 'X' to close it. I checked for Lightning Calendar Tab add-on updates. It was up to date. I check the settings. All OK. I disabled and enabled this add-on. Still not working. My Windows habits made me shutdown and restart my device. Still Not working. When I checked the other ThunderBird functions, New Event pop-up windows appeared for Emails and Contacts but not Tasks which had the same symptoms as the Calendar.

(Sorry, there is no calendar topic ... but this is about converting calendar event to email message...)

I just discovered (because I needed it for the first time) the nice and useful "Convert to ... message" feature for calendar events.

The converted event does not, however, include the date and time of the event nor the location, arguably the most important information about a calendar event. The calendar it is located in would also be handy, for those of us maintaining multiple calendars. Currently, it places the event title in the subject line, and the description in the message.

Anyone know if this is configurable? I looked in settings and didn't see anything.

Most useful would be a default template, which users could customize, perhaps per-calendar. All that I can see that is customizable about this is the sending email address, which can be set in the calendar properties.

Another issue is that this feature is not available from the event detail popup. In that case, I would think it would be not only available, but prominent. The event detail view is where I would expect most features relating to an event to be located, yet only the "Edit" button is present.

Thanks! Erik. - daily user and lover of Thunderbird!

Google calendar invite created in Thunderbird lacks Google Meet link and sender acceptance is off by default .

Given:

  • A user with a personal Google account; and
  • User has enabled Google Calendar setting Automatically add Google Meet video conferences to events I create; and
  • The user’s Google calendar is added to Thunderbird using instructions in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar; and
  • The user creates an event with at least one guest in Thunderbird;
  • The user has 30 min default notifications in TB enabled.

When:

  • User creates a meeting invite with at least one guest and Thunderbird saves/sends the event to Google Calendar via its current integration

Then:

  • No Google Meet link is attached to the event in Google Calendar; and
  • Google Calendar does not record the event creator as an accepted attendee; and
  • As a result the event creator does not receive reminders unless they manually accept the invitation by logging into Google account online.

Expected behavior:

  • Google Meet link is automatically included in Events with at least one guest;
  • The event shows in TB as accepted by the sender by default;
  • The sender is reminded in TB before the meeting as per default reminder settings;

Note: As it stands, I cannot use TB for creating online meeting with guests, as it includes no links for meetings, and no reminders. It is only useful for reading google calendar but not for creating or updating meeting events.
