I was wondering if there way a way to override Firefox's default JS memory limit per tab? Right now, upon reaching about 4-5GB of memory usage, my JS console window reports an our of memory error and dumps my code. I appreciate that this is pretty normal behavior, as 4GB of memory is fairly outlandish for a website. However, for the use case of VR, particularly in physics engine development, it can feel a bit restrictive and even silly when I have 32GB sitting idle - and I could readily double that to 64. However, I know Firefox has a rather extensive about:config section - and I was wondering if anyone knew if one of these variables allowed us to override the internal limits of the browsers memory limitations?

Hello. I have been trying to get the Firefox debugger to hook up with the Aptana editor. The instructions that I have are obsolete. The link http://firefox.aptana.com/update/ is supposed to automatically download the extension. It just takes me to a search engine results page full of links that barely touch on the subject. I also found out the Firebug has been deprecated.

Question: Are Firefox and Aptana divorced? Is there still a way to combine the Aptana editor to the Firefox debugger?

We use a firefox sync server locally for around 50 users. One server updated automatically and lost the custom value for the "identity.sync.tokenserver.uri" setting in about:config. This meant that any user using firefox on that server had their sync account data sent and stored in the mozilla cloud sync server. What is the process to clear and remove all the synced data from the cloud sync server for several users without removing the local sync server's contents as well?

The issue here is technically how it is done. If I reset an account's password, and then change it from my laptop which is set to use the local sync server, from what I can tell that would remove the contents from the local sync server rather than the cloud one, or would it do both somehow? Then there is the question of if I change the password while on that server, choose a new one, it will then start syncing to the cloud sync server again right?

I write web applications for a living, and that means that part of the time I am creating on-the-fly Excel and PDF documents. Often I have to edit the document for some tiny formatting detail (e.g. the borders are too thin, a misspelling, the headers should be bold, etc), restart the application and re-download the new file to check whether it is correct. After I do this 4 or 5 times, Firefox starts caching the files and gives me old versions instead. I've deleted all of the past files from the temp folder manually, and still receive the old file. If I connect to the same program in Chrome, I get my new document, so I know that it's not the application. How to I get Firefox to stop caching download files, period? I don't want to click a button to clear out my whole cache every time I restart the application....

Thanks!

String.replace function on Firefox version 62 ( actually the regression may introduce from version55) has wired behavior.

The case like this:

// When invoke function of String.replace twice, but it seems only work once.

var test='abc/abc/c'.replace('', './resources/js/').replace('', './resources/js/'); console.log(test)   // it output will "./resources/js/abc/abc/c"

A little change on content of the string from 'abc/abc/c' to 'abc/abc', the output will append twice.

var test='abc/abc'.replace('', './resources/js/').replace('', './resources/js/'); console.log(test)
./resources/js/./resources/js/abc/abc

Or I change the replacement string to "xy"

var test='abc/abc/cc'.replace('', 'xy').replace('', 'xy'); console.log(test)
// it will append twice, xyxyabc/abc/cc

Can I make a button that toggles browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction from 0 to 2?

I’m used to a certain way of controlling all my tabs.*

I need firefox‘s settings ‘browser.link.open_newwindow’ and ‘browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction’, to work the way I want to work. But because some websites make links open in new tabs (technically in new windows I suppose), not via the target attribute, but via something else, I really want to set browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 0. Just to normally browse the internet.**

But some other websites who use scripts in a bona fide way for things like logging on, don‘t take users like me into account, who have set browser.link.open_newwindow to 1 and browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 0. For example, logging on to Feedly fails, because it can only be done in a pop-up. Expanding one message in Gmail also isn‘t possible with my settings.

For such instances I would like to be able to toggle browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction from 0 to 2. Or from 0 to 1, that would be just as good. It just needs to be 0 as a default, but toggled to something else when needed.

I wouldn‘t know the first thing about making such a button. I guess what I‘m asking is: how easy is it to make one (if it doesn’t exist already) and are there instructions somewhere, that are comprehensable for a layperson?

———

 * If I left-click on something it means I want to leave the current webpage and go to the clicked webpage in a the same tab. The things I want to open in a new tab to read soon, I open in a new tab, and it opens in the background as the rightmost tab. A part of my brain makes sure the amount of tabs doesn‘t grow too large. Something interrupting I need to read right now I open in a new window. I’ve always worked like this. Even the last years, when more and more websites and browsers started to push a model where tabs are opening left and right, the back button suddenly closes a tab and moves the focus somewhere unexpected etc.

 ** a good example of a website which would still open left-clicked links in a new tab even with browser.link.open_newwindow set to 1 is quora.com, but that‘s just one I think of and there are many, many more.

Hey everyone,

I am using wordpress for my site, and have had an issue with people stealing content in the past.

Because of that I'm using a wordpress plugin that disables right click and copy paste. I know that it's not fool proof, and that it's still possible to view the source etc. if you know how.

The problem I'm having at the moment though, is that the pages are still accessible in Firefox Reader view, and in Reader View all the content can be viewed in an unprotected way, and easily copy pasted. So if it's possible I'd like to add something (plugin / code or whatever is needed really) that will stop people from opening my pages in Reader View.

Would anyone have any ideas on how to do that?

From what I've read, Reader View determines content to show based on markup in the code, so I could try stripping out the HTML tags, but not sure what that's going to do to my theme styling.

Thanks, David

After the Developer Toolbar has been removed in Firefox v62, how do I emulate media queries, like "print"? And how do I reset this setting?

Just for your information in case your are in doubt about my question: While the Developer Toolbar was active, the Developer Toolbar command for setting media emulation to print was "media emulate print". The command for resetting the media type was "media reset".

Your answer is appreciated.

I want to export my cookie permissions either through a WebExtension or a script outside of Firefox.

I'm looking at the `moz_perms` table in my permissions.sqlite, and I see three values for `permission` for entries of `type` "cookie":

  • 1: Keep cookies permanently
  • 2: Block all cookies
  • 8: Keep cookies for session

As I review the Firefox codebase, I see the following in nsIPermissionManager.idl:

 const uint32_t EXPIRE_NEVER = 0;
 const uint32_t EXPIRE_SESSION = 1;
 const uint32_t EXPIRE_TIME = 2;
 const uint32_t EXPIRE_POLICY = 3;

Obviously, that doesn't match up at all, so I'm probably looking at the wrong thing. I've been a user of Self-destructing cookies if that makes any difference.

Where can I find code or documentation on meaning of the `permission` field for entries of `type` "cookie" in the `moz_perms` table of permissions.sqlite? Is there a better or existing means of exporting cookie settings like this?

Hello community, after updating my FF from 62.03 to 63.0, I experience a strange behaviour. I use the css properties "display:none" and "display:table-cell" to dynamically show and hide table columns. Prior to FF 63.0 everything worked excellent. But now, after hiding columns (by altering the css property form "display:table-cell" to "display:none"), the table and its content is displayed properly but some of the cells are missing their defined background colour. As soon as doing some action which forces a redraw of the window (e.g. resize the window or scroll the window), the complete table is diplayed properly . In order to give an impression feel free to have a look at the attached images Pre-Collapsed-Table.png, Collapsed-Table.png and Expected-Collapsed-Table.png. Meanwhile I have been playing with the "visibility" attribute in order to get the desired result. Unfortunately this is not suitable because hidden elements take up space on the page.

Is it a bug in FF 63.0? What can I do to get the previous and expected behaviour? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

We have an application that was integrated with several other legacy applications in the organization. We started upgrading our application to HTML 5 standards to make it work with all modern browsers such as Firefox, Chrome and Edge. Now the problem is that, our application has redirect links to 3 to 5 legacy applications that were coded for IE 7 and no where in the migration path. When the users click on these links while working on our application, Firefox opens a blank page, making them as blockers for our application uplift. 1) is there a way to force a link to open in IE while the parent page is launched using Firefox ? I have seen this link : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/43615678/force-a-link-in-i-e-to-open-in-firefox , but this is for the opposite requirement...open Firefox from IE. 2) how do you run applications requiring .cab files on Firefox ? if there is an answer for this, we don't need to worry about #1.

Thanks.
