Is there a way to create a Thunderbird account even though your system is not able to log into my iCloud.com email account using my credentials?

My old Arch Linux system with Thunderbird 145.0-1-x86_64 died. My RasPi and my new Pop-OS Meerkat both get 140.7.1esr (aarch64), and say they can't import my backups. I could see the RasPi ARM system getting a different Thunderbird, but the Meerkat is clearly an Intel processor. Why does it get the same version as the ARM based Pi? How can I recover my years of mail history? Both new installations say they are incompatible!

When in e-mail I get a message concerning not being able to connect I MAP settings as there are too many or something like that. (Message disapears quickly). It indicating that I should use advanced I MAP settings - all of which is way beyong my primative knowledge. Anyone throw any light on this regarding what and how to do or who to contact Thank you . Believe my T-bird account has somehow been corrupted. Takes forever to load on PC and always puts new emails in Trash folder. Often does not accept correct password. If I save / backup PROFILE, uninstall T-Bird and delete any Thunderbird folders on PC, if I restore per backup, will I be restoring the corrupted app. Don't want to loose email addresses, thousands of emails and email folder structure. Will a restore work? Thank you. Greg D

PS Version of T-Bird on laptop still puts all new email in Trash, but loads much more quickly, etc.

In our organization we have moved from an on-premise mail server to M365. We've also added our new EWS-based accounts to Thunderbird. Since there are a large number of users with a significant amount of older mails they want to have access to, they have been asking how they could upload them to EWS now.

From the looks of it, using TB one can either drag and drop messages from the local folders to EWS. Would message copy/move from the local folders be faster if the EWS account was setup over IMAP, instead of over EWS? If so, we could setup another account corresponding to the same EWS identity, but over IMAP, just for the purposes of transferring messages faster.

Good morning

Since this morning (05/03/2026) Thunderbird freezes within a minute or two of opening the program.

Everything in the program freezes up. I cannot even close it.

I am running Version 140.8.0esr on a Windows 10 PC.

Initially I was getting a pop up warning message that ask me to confirm if I wanted to send an email with attachments of over 20 MB. There were 3 or 4 such messages. I had not tried to send such emails.

I checked the Outbox in Local folders for old messages, but it was empty. I also checked the Unsent messages files in Local Folders in the Profile folder. I deleted the Unsent Messages.msf file to no effect. I renamed and replaced the Unsent messages file. Also no change.

I checked for crash logs but there are none.

I have run out of ideas as to what to try next. Does anyone have any advice?

I got a new account on my german provider 1&1 and used the right servers the company recommends on its Website (same servers as the previous account). For some reason it is not possible for me to send any Emails but to receive them. On my Iphone I neither receive nor send messages because the server isn‘t working as well. I tried several different accountnames…. I hope you can help me. Thank you!

Hello, i have installed latest TB an try to use it on one PC - This PC is part of company network, users login to windows by domain controller login. there is also a exchange server in the same network. i have created a running and working thunderbird-exchange connection for 2 different users but with the third user its noch working anymore. is there a limit to user accounts on one PC or? I am using the latest version of Thunderbird 148.0 on a MacBook Air with latest OS Tahoe 26.3.

Yesterday I was unable to receive messages via Thunderbird app but could log in to my provider and view the messages on webmail. Checked my account configuration and changed the port to 110 which seemed to fix the problem.

However, this morning I again cannot receive emails but I can send them. When I click on Get Messages, the bottom pane which normally shows the app contacting the server and downloading messages instead only shows the blue 'thinking' line (sorry, don't know what proper terminology for this is) for a few seconds then stops.

When I go to Server settings for incoming and check connection to server it is fine.

Any ideas why this is happening?

There is a way to add a folder to a Thunderbird account that combines other folders. The one I want to create would be "Inbox and Sent emails combined". I did it in the past, but I can't remember how to do it anymore. Can someone help with this? I am running Thunderbird 140.8.0esr (64-bit) on Linux Mint.

I cant receive emails only send them. I receive an error message when starting Thunderbird "the current operation on inbox <my email address> did not succeed"

Sometimes Thunderbird asks for a donation. But in order to donate I need the indication of a SEPA account. Other options are too cumbersome for me. Because this topic is not listed in the topic list, I have selected "Accounts".

Since the latest update a Yahoo Mail sign-in keeps popping up...sometimes two different versions. It's driving me nuts. Should I uninstall/reinstall Thunderbird. It's so frequent for no apparent reason that I may have to give up Thunderbird and many, many years of use...and donations. thx, deanna

I use earthlink.net (28yrs) with Thunderbird. I set up a second account (name123@earthlink.net) which somehow became my primary account. It accesses fine, but my major account (name@earthlink.net) asks for password which I don't know and can't find using tools, account settings etc. This just started and I typically get 50 emails per day and cannot access. I can access X@earthlink.net

On my PC - Initial problem was T-bird took forever to load and virtually all new msgs went to TRASH and I had to move to IN-Box. Per help from David - Saved off profile, and reinstalled thunderbird from thunderbird.net. No change. Then UNINSTALLED T-Bird (profile still intact). Now just attempts to open "Looking up imap.comcast.net", but won't open/connect and to close the app I must use WIN Task Master. Can't get to any msgs, etc.

Also, in the past when I was able to open, the  banner or bar at the top of the page had hundreds of email icons.  I sometime have over 1000 emails in my in-box!! 

I have years worth of emails in folders on T-Bird which I don't want to loose. Help. Thank you. I have a "working" version (with the "trash" and slow loading issue per above) on my laptop, so I can access suggestions on that version of T-Bird. You could also send any suggestions to x@gmail.com

Normally, I can right click and tell Thunderbird that this is NOT junk, however, when I do this, these emails go back into the inbox and virtually instantly return to junk.

This is from anyone's email address that arrives from one particular website: @legacydigitalagency.com

I haven't come across this issue since I started using Thunderbird 20+ years ago.
