Thunderbird layout - how do i enlarge the classic view current message pane window? it's too short/compressed, and i can only drag it up a little, then it stops. In the prior TB versions, I only saw the last 3 or 4 messages in the upper message list portion of the classic view layout. Now I'm seeing almost 10 messages in my messages list. Meanwhile, the actual current message viewing pane is now horizontally compressed so that the ratio of message list to message view is closer to 40% message list, 60% actual message text plus the header info. I have tried click and drag the upper border of the current message being viewed, towards the top of the screen, but it stops, and still shows me 10 most recent messages in my list, which is really useless. I only need to see the last 3 or 4. The rest of the viewing pane should be more of the text area of the current message being viewed. Is there a "config editor" tweak to reduce the messages list to 3 or 4 messages, and increase the actual current message viewing area? Or some other fix for this?

Most of my work life is in email. Over 25 years (starting with Mulberry) I have built up a custom IMAP folder hierarchy that makes work manageable, but Thunderbird 115 has broken this, now displaying nested subfolders at the top level sorted alphabetically. See the images for before and after. For example, there are now three "Administrative" folders that were formerly classified under superordinate folders for my roles as lab leader, graduate program chair, and departmental faculty member. Persons who used to be in Colleagues or Students subfolders are now at top level. Inexplicably, a few folders retained their hierarchy but most are flattened out. Now I need to scroll through hundreds of folders (have not counted recently but in the late 2000's I had over 500.)

I was able to revert to 102.14 using backups, but will be stuck with this version for the rest of my career unless Thunderbird fixes these problems. Thunderbird is so important to me that I make an automated monthly donation to the project, but will have to cancel if this is not fixed.

If anyone has found a work around please LMK. And Thunderbird team, please acknowledge and LMK whether this will be addressed or are IMAP users left behind?

Hi, I have downloaded the latest Thunderbird and it is driving me mad because I KNOW there is a simple solution (I hope) When I used to open my emails they were all listed from oldest to newest and Thunderbird would automatically go to the bottom of the list where my latest (newest) emails were, NOT ANY MORE it goes to the older email in my in box, click date and YES the latest email rushes to the top of the list BUT I want it at the bottom HOW do I get the emails back the way I like them?

Just upgraded to Thunderbird 115(from the last Non beta version).

I have multiple email accounts.

When I click to the inbox off one of my gmail accounts it does not display to the last message received. Thunderbird opens to a message about 1/4 up into my inbox.

I have a second gmail account and this behavior does not occur.

I'm sure its a easy fix, I just can't figure it out .

Thunderbird 115.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 OS build 19045.3208 Having just updated from 102.13.0.0, I find the sizing and applying of column sizes/views to be even more frustrating than before. Comments/questions: 1. Why is it virtually impossible to simply slide a column header divider to a new location where one wants the divider to be without other adjacent columns changing size too? 2. Why do columns like Date and Tag refuse to slide to a minimal size and even double-clicking requires multiple attempts to reduce the width? 3. Why do column widths not transfer exactly when using Apply to... ? 4. Is it possible to have an Apply to... option that is All Accounts and their Children? (Rather than having to do it on each Account separately.) 5. Once a particular "view" (generic use of the term) is to one's satisfaction, what is the supported way to reproduce that exactly on all folders in all Accounts, so that every element (column selections, sizing, sorting, etc) is identical on all folders? My Thunderbird auto updated this afternoon to 115.3.1 . Now I am only seeing message headers. The body of the messages has disappeared. I'm not seeing anything on the bottom half of the screen, not even the message tool bar where you can delete, reply, etc..

Strangely -- the very same thing happened to me six months back with a secondary account, but my primary account was unaffected. So I was using the email interface with one email address (same domain name) which worked fine, while the secondary one only showed headers, and not the actual messages.

NOW-- after this download, the secondary email address account is showing both the headers and the messages, while my primary account is only showing the headers.

PLEASE HELP. Posted here six months ago for the previous time but never got any solution to the problem then. Just lived with it, as it was a secondary email address, but I will have to leave Thunderbird if I can't get the primary address showing actual messages soon.

Hi, I stupidly 'upgraded' from V102 to V115, which I immediately disliked. I managed to re-install V102, but it then said the profile was for a newer version. I had a backup from a few weeks ago, and copied all the top-level files over. So I got all my setup bacvk and all seemsed fine, but have just seen that my address book is messed up.

I had lots of important 'contact lists' (about 10), they have all disappeared. I only see "Outlook Express..." (imported ages ago) and "Collected Addresses", the main section, and the sub-lists are all missing, and I have lost years of addresses for my business.

I have the abook.sqlite backed up on 13th Sept, but can't open or use it to check what's in there. I tried importing, but got as 'fail'

Hi, In TB 102 the menu toolbar was still above the button toolbar, if I am not mistaken. In TB 115 this seems to have changed... I could not find a way to customize it back as it was. Pointers anyone ? Thank you.

I recently noticed an issue after waking my MAC Book M1 (2020) from several days of sleep. Upon opening the lid, I was met with a system warning about low memory. Further investigation revealed that ThunderBird was using over 100G of memory.

Just a few days ago, I had updated my MAC to Sonoma 14.0, and last week ThunderBird was updated to version 115.3.0. Both were significant version upgrades, and I'm unsure where the problem lies.

I haven't installed any additional extensions or plugins, as shown in the attached screenshot. However, I did notice some components listed in the debug information, and I'm not sure why there's an inconsistency.

I will continue to monitor this issue to see if it reoccurs. For now, I'm just reporting this as a single instance along with my system information, hoping it's an isolated case.

The problem affects Mozilla Thunderbird v.115.3.1. I have local folders with subfolders and subfolders within them. Until now, subfolders expanded only after clicking on the folder. And it was very convenient. Now subfolders expand as soon as the mouse hovers over the folder name. This is very uncomfortable. Is it possible to return to the previous solution in the settings?

Is the userChrome.css still supported? I have turned it on in config mgr, and tried every resource I cna find on the web, but my userChrome.css is ignored.

Hi This morning I was blessed with update 115 for Thunderbird. Not impressed. I have a couple of issues I hope you can help with.

1. The box that lists incoming messages is way too long, taking up over half the screen. I moved it up as small as it will let me. 2. The second question is the box in between inbox and the message (middle pane) is also way too large. Ideally, I would only like it to display the top line. Remove the to and subject line The attached screen shot hopefully will help you see the issue. Please note that on the bottom of the shot is probably 3/4 way down my screen with very little room to read the message. Perhaps 3 or 4 lines at best.

I like Thunderbird and I feel like I know it fairly well. Not well enough to have turned automatic updates off.

It has 4 email accounts on it - 3 hotmail accounts and one standard email account from a domain I own. On 9/15/23, I started Thunderbird and the hotmail accounts were asking for permission for Thunderbird to access them. I knew this was update related because Thunderbird opened a browser window announcing the update with a what's new thing.

Fine. Things change. But here's what happened... There was an unwanted, problematic change in my Unified Folder section where there are normally only Inboxes of the 4 accounts. The hotmail inboxes were OK but the non-hotmail email had all of its SUBFOLDERS now under the Inbox inside the Unified Folders section. With this change, ALL THE EMAIL (NEW AND STORED) are now part of the Unified Folder section. These hundreds+ emails are now displayed when I choose the Inbox at the top of Unified Folders.

Did not know what to do to try to fix this. Ended up uninstalling Thunderbird, deleting the folders inside of Local and Roaming directories in AppData and reinstalling an old version (102.15.2.2). I also turned off auto updates.

I installed only one email account - the one that was messed up and it looked "normal". Fine again. Tried to do the update to 115 and the Unified Folder section did the same thing with this account by putting all the IMAP folders under it at the top instead of having it separated lower in the main Folders list. So I uninstalled, deleted and reinstalled version 102, putting all 4 accounts back.

Attaching a screenshot of how I like it to look and a screenshot of what it looked like that I cannot tolerate. Unified inbox with ONLY THE INBOXES (with no subfolders) at the top and the other folders of those accounts at the bottom. If there is an easy way to change the Unified Inbox on the new release, I would like to know it in order to try so I can keep the updates current.

The new UI has this massive customizable toolbar at the top of the screen, it wastes a lot of space and doesn't look good compared to the old UI, you can fully customize it even leaving it blank but that does not remove it entirely and it looks off with just a blank nothing up there, where is the option to completely remove this new toolbar?

On latest version 115.3.1 (64 bit) when I click on GET MESSAGES nothing seems to happen for several minutes than after repeated clicks on same suddenly line at bottom shows downloading some number of messages. Is this something I am doing to slow what used to be very speedy process to download messages from Comcast server to my PC?

When I opened Tbird app today, my messages show in various folders but only a list of messages, not a screen to view contents of message being examined. I did not do anything I am aware of to change this and haven't been able to locate setting to turn on the message content view again. Also on list of messages, they are shown but with a much wider spacing (double space?) with lot of wasted blank space. How to correct this?

Thunderbird is not even usable after this update! It crashes constantly trying to read and send emails. Can I go back about two or three versions back before you destroyed it?

Thunderbird 115.0 (though also happened on 102), M2 macbook pro; OS up to date.

On AC & battery, thunderbird uses up huge amounts of power sporadically in its background activity, taking up ~50-80% of processor power & hundreds of gb virtual memory (see activity monitor screenshot attached). Computer gets pretty hot to touch with thunderbird on, which I don't see with other apps. Troubleshooting info below.

This has been happening for several months now, since I switched to thunderbird & was hoping it would resolve at 115. I can't find any correlation with other usage patterns of the computer (ie I dont think it's correlated with idle usage, but not willing to stage reputation on that).
