See the attached picture. Message box concerning purging deleted msgs is back after latest update. I want to be able to clear the trash manually. This just showed up after the latest update.

I have seen in the past that people were wanting to know the same thing, but following the solutions from back in time don't work because too many things have changed.

Sooooo, how do I turn this off ?

I am running 78.9.1 (32-bit)

(Pop!_OS distro used) I use a handful of resources to monitor my laptop's resources. The attached image is from the htop command (note that I've been using the laptop at most an hour, and it was compltely powered off before. Unsure why it says such high times.). Over the past four-ish months, I've seen firefox's new-window command (/usr/lib/firefox/firefox -new-window) function very strangely. Two instances of the command randomly run for extended periods of time (anywhere from a few seconds to two or three minutes, often towards the longer end), taking up ~100% of the cpu usage for each given one second interval (the time my htop is configured to check). While I'm aware htop records cpu statistics extremely different than task manager (frankly, I'm not quite sure how it measures), this cpu spike takes place with other irregular fluctuations in my laptop, which says to me that the command is in fact doing something. When the cpu spikes occur, I see my cpu temperature rise up to 80 degrees Celsius, and it's frequency hit it's cap for only a handful of threads, while the rest stay completely unchanged.

To clarify the extent of the randomness when I say the commands run randomly: this happens without any pattern that I can identify. I've had anywhere from 1 to 10 tabs open, resting in the background from anywhere between a couple minutes to half an hour, and two new-window commands will run, unprompted, as described above. I've been scrolling through an article, and out of no where, the twin commands run. I've loaded up webpages and the commands have run. I've been watching videos, simply opened a new tab (ironic given the command name), just anything you can do on the web browser, and the commands have run. And there have been days where this issue doesn't happen at all. This can happen numerous times while I'm on firefox. It could happen once, followed by a lot of intervals of the commands running, or it could be a while before the next time it happens.

The one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb to me is that, as I mentioned at the end of the first paragraph, I see one thread 'catch' and cause this spike. It's a random thread, it can be a different one each time this happens during a given session on firefox, but I've only every noticed it to be one thread.

Not sure what's up. I tried to be as detailed as possible since I could find anything about this on these forums.

I already abandoned Firefox browser after they forced a "refresh" on me thus deleting all my bookmarks buttons, bookmarks etc. etc. Over the years of all this b/s I finally decided to never again. Had enough of Mozilla nonsense.

Hi Team

We have a problem with printouts, i.e. when we have a generated printout and it is opened by the built-in pdf viewer in ff, then after clicking print, the spooler becomes clogged and the pdf file weighs almost 100 Mb. There are no such problems when opening the file with the installed Acrobar Reader DC application. A request for information on what may be the cause of this condition. I would like to add that this is the VDA VMware Horizon version 7.10. The Mozilla Firefox browser in the picture is 78.0.2 esr 64 bit.

Recently Windows forced an update to 20H2. All my other programs display font okay. However Firefox (desktop -- latest version) does not display fonts properly. The letters flash between thin and normal.

Strangely enough when I took a screen shot to demonstrate the weird font display the fonts were perfectly fine in the screen shot.

I took a picture with my phone. In the image one can see difference in the width of the two L in "all" As mentioned this is only happening in Firefox.

Thanks for any clues.

There already is a thread discussing the dialog box "Compact Folders". However this related to the purging of DELETED messages. It did not relate to messages which have been MOVED to a different folder for which the same dialog box appears. Could someone please tell me: 1 Why do I get the "Compact Folders" dialog when I MOVE a file. This should not change the disc storage requirement since presumably only the relevant entry in the file allocation table is changed not the 1.7GB suggested in the dialog - see attached image. 2 What would happen after MOVING a file if I pressed Proceed 3 This "feature" was not present in earlier versions of Thunderbird (there was "Compact" after a deletion) so what is the reason for including it in the newer one (78.9.1 (32-bit).

Thank you

It looks to me like Thunderbird has a bug when you want to send plain text email that on sending and receipt flows itself to the width of the window.

To send flowed text that flows on the sending site, you set (in the config editor):

mailnews.wrap_long_lines=true (don't mess with my outgoing emails; just let them go as long as they need) mailnews.wraplength=0 (don't have a specific line length; just wrap to the window length) plain_text_wrap_long_lines=true (wrapping is great, particularly in the client) mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed=true (regardless of what I send, the recipient should be able to rewrap it so it flows comfortably in their screen) mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support=false (don't disable flowed text; I like flowed text).

On sending this works great; it flows to the border of the window and wraps, reflowing as you change text without needing to hit ctrl-r or anything (since all the wrapping is virtual).

However, when you send this way, your email will be sent as one long line, and on receipt, thunderbird will display it as one long line, not reflowing it at all.

On the other hand, if you tweak this by changing one line:

mailnews.wraplength=78 (or whatever, pick a length)

Then while composing it will stick stubbornly to 78 lines (or whatever). However, on reciept, because of format=flowed, it will reflow your message to your window size and look great.

Obviously this is a bug. By documentation, mailnews.wraplength=-1 should disable flowing at all; length=0 should send whatever it sends but reflow on client side, which it doesn't -- at least in thunderbird.

Is there a workaround (also, is this a live bug?)

This is from thunderbird 78.9.1 (32 bit).
