Hi!

Let's start by saying that I love Firefox, that I use it as my primary browser everywhere and I love that is not based on chromium. However, for reasons to me unknown is missing a very important feature (natively at least): tab grouping. This feature is extremely simple to implement and in today life, where in most jobs (I'm a researcher) you have to deal with a tons of tabs opened in your browser, being able to effectively organize them is a must.

My question is: has Firefox the intention to implement (again) this feature? Will this happen soon?

I'm really trying my best to not switch to a competitor browser and I really want to support Firefox and hope that it gains more and more users. But for this to happen it really needs to be on par with time. How come every other popular browser has a very good tab grouping feature and Firefox doesn't?

Please, let me know if there's a chance to see this feature implemented in reasonable times. Sooner or later, you will probably have to do that reagardless.

Wish you the best, A.

Hi,

Is there any reason firefox would flag an mp4 file legitimately?

  • The file extension and file type are absolutely mp4.
  • There seem to be no mp4 related zero days.

Does Firefox perhaps just treat all downloads from suspicious domains as malware? Is there a zero day I missed? Is this based on some missing metadata on the file or something?

Thanks for any advice you can give here, I'm scared.

Everything under Logins and Passwords, and Forms and Autofill is unchecked. A "Primary Password" has never been set in firefox.

Can't get it to stop asking, which is made worse by the fact that nothing is selected to prompt it nor is anything stored for it to use.

I recently switched over to Firefox as my main browser in place of Chrome. What really won me over was the Primary Password feature, so that my saved passwords will be safe. But I'm a little confused: When I open Firefox, the dialog box comes up asking me for my Primary Password. As soon as I type the first two characters of my password, the browser is totally unlocked. I can either type in the rest of my password at that point and press Enter, or I can just press the Cancel button. Either way it only needs the first two characters of my password to unlock Firefox. That doesn't seem very secure. Is there any way to set it to require my entire password?

I'm using Firefox 116.0.1 on Ubuntu linux. I'm not using a VPN, antivirus, a proxy or any kind of http filtering.

When attempting to load a certain website I get the message: "An error occurred during a connection to www.[website].org. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR"

Google results tells me that firefox throws this error when it can't resolve a safe SSL/TLS connection to the website.

The thing is, I don't care. I'm aware of the risks of browsing on a website with outdated or non-existent certs.

How do I get firefox to drop this security measure?

I am running Firefox (Flatpak) on Debian 12 and I use a Nelko thermal label printer. I had installed nelko-printer-driver previously and had no issues printing on Firefox but, due to an issue with Debian, I had to reinstall Debian 12. Now, when I try to print a document then Firefox immediately crashes. I have tried:

  • Uninstalling the Flatpak and deleting app data
  • Help > More Troubleshooting... > Clear Saved Print Settings
  • about:config > Reset modified printer settings
  • Uninstalled/reinstalled nelko-printer-driver
  • Restarted

When Firefox asks if I want to download an update and I agree, soon after that but not right away it stops working - on every new page it says "We need to restart to finish updating" <- This last bit is VERY annoying. Is there a way to keep FF working in such situation? I usually have 3 FF profiles running, about 10-20 tabs each and when it suddenly does this - I can restart them all but when it is suitable for me.

The only solution I can see so far is disabling updates via group policies (which is not well documented, where do i put this policies.json on Fedora? need to google that).

Any other ways to keep updates and FF running until I decide when to restart? Thanks.

In Ubuntu 18.04, I bring up a new page, click in the search bar in the middle of the page. Then when I start typing it jumps to the address bar although I have already placed and preferred the search bar to the right. No! NO! NO!

I use Duck Duck Go but Google does the same.

It is bad enough that the upgrade was automatically loaded but on top of that, changing preferences including dumping my home page. Change privacy settings without asking ( to a lower level on top of that ).

Really POOR form.

A few moths ago, when you visited a website and then typed some new search-term in the address-bar, you used to be able to search right in that tab. Now a new tab opens up and you get moved there.

While programming, i search for a lot of stuff. Switch to Firefox -> Ctrl+L -> type search-term is the fastest way i found to search for whatever I need. Problem is: now my browser clutters itself by always opening new tabs instead of just reusing the one i don't need anymore.

So my questions would be this:

  1. Is it possible to restore the old behaviour of staying within your one tab?
  2. If there is some other shortcut that allows for searching without moving to a new tab?

(I also tried Ctrl+K and Ctrl+J. Both still open a tab when you already are on a website.)

I usually leave the default zoom under general settings at 100%, but when I'm in the settings / preference page, I usually set it at 90%.

However, in my attempt to clear cache on another issue, I ticked site preferences and offline web site data under clear all history. Ever since, the 90% under about:preferences does not stick like it did previously.

Setting the default zoom at 90% under General sticks, but it also applies 90% under general browsing - which is not what I want.

How could I get back to my previous settings?

Thanks.

Hey there,

When first opening the MozillaVPN app (in Linux) it gave me to option to consent or decline to data collection of technical information. I consented but would like to decline/turn it off. I know how to do this for the Firefox browser, through the settings and privacy tab; however, I'm having trouble finding a way to turn off / opt-out for MozillaVPN.

Thanks!

(I'm asking this question in this Firefox forum because I was unable to make a new post in the MozillaVPN forum.)

I have encountered one web site that has several pages that display as graphics instead of text. I have visited this site before several months ago and the display was accurate then. The first image is how it looks now. The second image is how it looked several months ago. I am running Ubuntu 20.04.2 and Firefox 89.0.2. It's very strange that this is the only page that displays this way. I checked the page in Chromium and it displays correctly in that browser. Is this Firefox or quirky html?

Hello,

I updated firefox and it's now hard to tell when one tab ends and another begins when you have multiple inactive tabs next to each other, which is a major annoyance.

The way to solve this would be to have the inactive tabs have a border around them like the active tab, have them have a different background color from the toolbar, or otherwise have some kind of separator between them. I saw another answer that gave a temporary solution, but the same answer said the solution was going to stop working in a future update. Is there a permanent solution?
