I know that firefox once put the tabs on top, but I had that fixed with setting in "about:config" the value for "browser.tabs.onTop" to "false". Now, after upgrading Firefox to v.29 this entry is still set to the false value, however, I can't get the tabs below the adressbar (which is super annoying). Any ideas how to resolve this?

Firefox 57 won't play streaming ".m3u" files in vlc

Prior to v57 I could click on a link like http://freezone.iinet.net.au/include/radio/playlists/2.m3u and tell Firefox to always open it in VLC, after which I would be able to listen to these sorts of streaming music stations in VLC with a simple click in Firefox. It did open a blank tab as well, but no big deal.

Now when I click such a link, a new blank tab still opens but it just sits there in a "loading" state with a status bar message "Connecting to iinet.net.au...". Eventually it times out.

This has occurred on 2 different machines running Linux Mint (with Firefox Sync active) but also on a Windows 7 machine which does not have FF Sync enabled.

The problem persists even in Safe Mode (i.e., with extensions disabled).

There are ways around this for me - like loading the URL directly into VLC, though that is clumsier; I'm at a bit of a loss as to why/how this change has occurred. But it seems like Firefox wants to play mp3 audio in its own (html5?) builtin player, but that it doesn't support m3u.

The reason I would prefer to listen to streams in VLC is so that if I close Firefox after starting a music stream, then VLC can still keep playing the music.

Hi! I see 60.2.1 has been released three days ago. My TB 52.9.1 (64-bit) still shows no update available. I'm on the release channel with automatic update enabled. I also have restarted TB several times with no change. I haven't changed any update related settings. I have Lightning but I don't use it. I'm running TB on CentOS 7 64bit with all latest patches.

What could be the reason? Thanks! I know I could just download 60.2.1 and manually update. But I want to understand what prevents my 52.9.1 from updating and whether this will affect my future auto updates.

The Duckduckgo extension caused the page https://www.commsec.com.au/ to reload constantly so I removed it. Now Firefox won't let me add a general duckduckgo search engine and displays the following nonsensical messages (or others in the same vein) regardless of the number of re-starts or alterations to profile documents (including removal of search.json). Those alterations (including the removal) have since been reversed.

"Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://mycroftproject.com/installos.php/29720/duckduckgo.xml" because an engine with the same name already exists." "Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/240221/duckduckgo_https_ssl-20140120.xml?src=search" because an engine with the same name already exists."

Firefox seems to continually re-add search engines to my Search Engine options. I delete all but two Search Engines, yet every week or two, or maybe it's when the browser processes an update, all the old, removed search engines re-appear. It's annoying to have to endlessly delete them over and over again. I could just let them stay, I guess, but I'm stuck on the principle of the thing.

For example, I delete Google, Yahoo, Ixquick, etc. And yet, two or three weeks later, they're all back again. I have toggled browser.search.update to 'false', combed through about:config for anything related, toggled the setting in Preferences, and nothing seems to work. Is this a bug or a feature?

I have two instances of Firefox - Firefox beta and the standard one. Beta is at 56.0b12 (64-bit). The standard Firefox is up to date at whatever the current release version is.

Yahoo Mail is asking me to add an application (a Yahoo Mail app) for "mailto" links. I don't want it. Closing the notification works for as long a refresh, which means I'd be forever closing the notification, thus I want to disable the notification in about:config but what exactly do I need to disable?

Update. Here is someone with a similar problem: http://superuser.com/questions/363827/how-can-i-disable-add-application-for-mailto-links-bar-in-firefox

Hello Techies, First meet my system... Linux 32bits (Lubuntu), provided with: Lightspark, an SWF player, and all what Linux comes with.

Firefox ESR 52.4.0 (very old machine, its CPU doesn't have the SSE2 extension) provided with: HTTPS Everywhere, Ubuntu Modifications, YesScript OpenH264 Video Codec, Shockwave Flash, Widevine content Decryption module

I try to connect to a site, a radio station one, and Ff tells me a web page is slowing down the load process. Wait? Stop? Waiting is useless because the page never loads. Stopping leads to the site (simple http, without "s") but many parts of it do not respond. In other parts of the site Adobe Flash Player is mandatory to access the content. As you can imagine my system is not provided with Adobe and I guess this is why Ff warns me and can't access the site. I'm not installing Adobe, I don't even know if it is possible, and safe! How can I fix this? To me I should overstep Adobe, installing to the system something similar that the site can "like". Any suggestion? If you need it I can give the exact URL of the site. Many thanks for your educated answer!

I have been using using the "Email a link to this page" feature for a long time (previously it was Share page feature I believe) and have correctly setup the mailto: in preferences to use Yahoo Mail. Recently in Firefox 62, the feature now only starts up the Compose mail function for Yahoo Mail but the message is blank. Previously it had automatically inserted the Subject with page title and body with page url.

I've tested in both Linux and Windows, with all add-ons disabled and the behavior is the same.

I have been using Firefox in XP & in Ubuntu for many years. I have over 3000 bookmarks in a lot of folders, so this is not new to me. I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 & found Firefox 9.0.1 When I try to add a new bookmark, at the second star-click, the Edit-Bookmark window opens OK, but when I try to select a folder from the drop-down list, then the window is truncated at bottom & at right side. Clicking on a target folder highlights it OK but I can not see any button for confirming, so nothing is saved to right folder. All attempts end up in unsorted bookmarks. Screenshot below. How do I make the toolbars smaller? Since upgrading to the latest version, they are twice as tall as they used to be. The text in them is still a reasonable size but the toolbars take up twice the vertical space they used to. This has nothing to do with the size of the page I'm viewing so Ctrl+ or Ctgrl- has no effect.

Thanks for any help. Attached is a screen shot showing the wasted space at the top of my screen with the new toolbars.

When I was using Firefox 3.x, I configured it to clear the list of downloaded files at exit. Now, I've "upgraded" to Firefox 7.0.1 and it's stopped doing it. Not only that, there doesn't seem to be a way to get that functionality back.
