I had to do a Windows reinstall on my wife's computer. Before that, I backed up the profile file to a backup drive. There were a lot of subfolders on the inbox prior to the transition. Afterwards, I tried both copying and importing the profile folder from the backup drive. In both cases, the subfolders didn't reappear but the messages in the inbox did. Is there any way to recover them? I'm running Thunderbird 137.0.1 on windows 11. The mail is on a POP server. Thanks for any advice.

I am going to deploy Firefox ESR in an environment where the default topsites provided by the top-sites.json included in omni.ja (namely Wikipedia, youtube and reddit) are not desirable, and I want to provide my own. I cannot find a way to do so.

Setting the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.default.sites preference through the policies.json file does not work (the pref gets loaded but it does not influence the actual default topsites, which is not surprising since the default value of this pref has nothing to do with the actual default topsites).

Note that I am not seeking to remove the topsites from the homepage entirely (as would be achieved through the FirefoxHome/TopSites policy), I want to change the default ones.

I tried creating my own top-sites.json in /lib/firefox-esr/browser/ where omni.ja resides, but to no avail.

I am on a fresh installation of Debian, with Thunderbird as part of the Debian Cinnamon-Desktop.

I just copied my .thunderbird-profile-folder from a previous installation over and then started Thunderbird. That's all working perfectly fine, accounts are loading, settings are in, all good.

What's quirky is that there is now a .icedove folder. Of course Thunderbird complains about that at the next start, pointing to https://wiki.debian.org/Thunderbird#Adoption_of_User_Profiles. Which in this case isn't helpful.

I delete the .icedove-folder, start Thunderbird and the .icedove-folder get's recreated again. At the next start Thunderbird is complaining about itself again.

It could be "The Thunderbird package comes with a wrapper script in /usr/bin/thunderbird which will do the users profile adoption (if possible). It will be triggered automatically if a user is calling thunderbird from a CLI or via the desktop file." but shouldn't happen in the first place.

I'm running a brand new PC with Windows 11. I've installed Thunderbird 137.0.1 (64-bit). I'm a seasoned user (previously on Windows 10). If I view an attachment it will display a PDF in a new mail tab like I am used to, however when I click the Print button my printer spits out a blank page. If I save the same PDF to Windows then open the file in another program (like Chrome) then it prints there without any problem.

I have had quite a problem with my Thunderbird account for months and I have not been able to send any emails on my Computer - this seemed to be to do with the Setting for outgoing emails. I was missing '465' and I have now learnt that by seeing it in my NEW Account which just popped up in front of me??? I did the set up, and it seemed to be going OK, however, I only have a Deleted Items and Junk Folder, with absolutely NO CONTACTS. After doing some reading up, apparently I should have an update bar at the bottom right hand corner - NO. Now the Icon seems to have disappeared as well. So I can no longer look at the NEW account. Simply fixing my OLD email account by (possibly) adding '465' into Port section of the STMP Server page would be good. Wow, YES, it now allows me to use my OLD account to SEND an email - Yeehaa! HOWEVER, I cannot download new emails. So, on my Computer, the latest email coming IN is dated 12/01/2025. My emails DO come in to my iPad, so I am not totally missing out, however ALL of my Historical Emails which are VITAL to keep due to legal repercussions, are on my Computer and I am no longer able to add items to those folders. When I installed Thunderbird on my new computer, it immediately downloaded 3,900 emails from Yahoo (It serves my ATT.com email account.) The process took several hours and I could not stop it.

My email folder on my old computer is located at: c:\emailtb1 where I have about 100 folders (I make a new folder after about 100 emails.) I tried to change my location for emails to my old location without any success. Thunderbird used to ask you for the location. Any location worked. Now, there is a complicated process re profiles, I think it is called. Why make it complicated when simple works? How can I change to c:\emailtb1 so I can view my old organized folders?

My old email screen shows the 100 folders including inbox, sent, trash, etc. on the left of my screen. Then I have four columns to the right for Subject, From, Recipient and Date. Clicking on the column headings allows me to sort, and I can add columns easily. The new screen on my new computer is an absolute mess. It is many times worse than what I used since at least 2007.

I have been using computers and email since 1984. I am so frustrated that I am looking for a better email program. Can anyone help?

Following a serious problem unconnected with Thunderbird (which I have been using successfully for a number of years), I recovered Windows 10 and have struggled to reinstall all non-Windows apps (including Firefox, my web browser, also for more years than I can count). Only Thunderbird is resisting re-installation. Fortunately Webmail is working so we aren't quite cut off, but I'd like Thunderbird back. The installation process tells me it's installed, but when I try it I get the message: 'Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account'.

So: what can I do? How can Webmail be happily working with, presumably, those same settings? I called Plusnet who were helpfull as ever but they couldn't do anything.

Incidentally, Thunderbird and all its files disappeared during the recovery process - if that helps. I am in the habit of copying the Profiles to a memory stick every month and have the most recent, about a month old.
