Earlier today I downloaded 102.1.2 from the website. I installed it and everything was gone. No accounts, no folders with my saved emails. So I tried overlaying the profiles with backups I created at the beginning of the month. When I launched 102.1.2 after that, I was told those profiles were incompatible and I had to set up from scratch all my folders & accounts. So I then re-installed a prior version, 91.12.0. This time I was told a newer version had set up different profiles and again, I had to start from scratch to set up Thunderbird. I'm curious how/why this happened. Can anyone enlighten me?

As it turns out, I was able to restore a system image taken last week and can run Thunderbird 91.12.0 fine. But until I can gain some understanding how to migrate to whatever new structure is in place and keep all my accounts and saved emails, I can't see updating Thunderbird any more which likely means I'll have to find another email client when I finally move to Windows 11. Hate to do that; I've been using Thunderbird for going on 20 years now. Again, can anyone enlighten me as to how I can successfully migrate my settings and saved emails to the new Thunderbird?

Any enlightenment will be appreciated!!

I had this problem 2 years ago and somebody helped me fix it as follows:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered (3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

HOWEVER --- I don't seem to have browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled in my new version 74.0. What happened to it? Does it have a new name now?

Note that I tried in Options / Preferences / Search

I unchecked "Show search suggestions in location bar results

In Options / Preferences / Privacy

I uncheck each of the boxes in the Location Bar section (History, Bookmarks, Open tabs).

Hi folks.

Perhaps I am the problem, but I don´t understand it. I read douzends of articles and websites, but I still can´t get it to work....

I try to add my Gmail account to Thunderbird 68.6.0. I use two-factor-authentication in Gmail, so I created an appspecific password on Googles MyAccount-Page.

Then I choose "Add Email account" in Thunderbirds accout settings. Then I enter my Gmail-Email and the created appspecific password.

But Thunderbird doesnt find any connection data and asks for manual edit. But nothing I try to enter here works. In authentication dropdown there is NO OAuth2 to select.

So what am I doing wrong?

Can anybody help me?

A day ago I did the Firefox update to 75.0. Since then I have had trouble viewing ebay items. After you do a ebay search a list of items show up. When you open an item from a search list, you get a photo of the item usually on the left side and a description below the photo item. However, below and after the description everything including other seller photos and text are on the left side of the page. Normally they are across the page from the left side to right side. But now the layout is all on the left side. Everything is against the left side only and very hard to read. For many years I have never run into this problem before. I signed off and restarted Ebay with same problem. Looked at my son's computer and the ebay layout looked correct like like mine use to. I also opened up my google chrome browser and signed onto ebay. The ebay photos and text were correctly located on the page. So it appears that the recent update to firefox will not display the correct layout format in ebay. Can I download to the previous version of firefox? I 'm using latest Firefox browser 75.0 and running Windows 10. I attached a screen shot photo.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post my question, given the separation of Thunderbird from Mozilla. If this is not the right place, I'd appreciate a link to the correct one.

I'm new to Mac OS, have been a long time Windows-7 user, and long ago was a UNIX user at my then employer. But it's past time to say goodby to Redmond.

I want to transfer my Firefox Thunderbird email history as well as my address book etc. from the Windows 7 installation of Firefox Thunderbird, (which says it's "68.8.0 (32-bit)", it was updated today, May 10) over to the new (to me) MacBook-Pro Firefox Thunderbird (version latest as of May 9, so far haven't figured out how to cause the Mac Thunderbird to show it's version info)

While the instructions for copying the profile info on the Windows machine and transferring to another Windows machine are clear, and the instructions for copying an existing Mac profile and transferring to a new Mac are clear, I am unable to find any information on how to move the Windows files to the Mac installation.

I tried copying everything in the Windows "Thunderbird" directory to a flash drive, then tried replacing the Thunderbird files on the Mac with the copied files but that didn't work.

What is the procedure I should be following? For the moment I'll be keeping the Win-7 machine "alive" but would really like to abandon it soon.

Thanks for any suggestions.

On my old computer, it seems I did not set up a Mozilla account. I have saved the logins.json and key3.db and saved them online. The most recent version of Firefox does not use the key3 file. Is there anyway to convert these files so they can be read by the current Firefox? Or failing that, plaintext?

Understanding the release calendar -- when does addon support go away?

Hi! I understand that Add-On support for Firefox for Android is going away soon, per https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2020/02/11/faq-for-extension-support-in-new-firefox-for-android/ and similar pages, but I cannot find a clear timeline.

I'm worried that one day I will take a Firefox update on my Android device and suddenly the addons I rely on (e.g. Tampermonkey) will stop working with no warning and I'll have no good recourse.

How do I prevent that from happening?

How do I find out when Firefox Android will drop add-on support (I guess this is like asking when the current Firefox Preview will become the release channel?)?

I have not been able to find an equivalent of https://wiki.mozilla.org/Release_Management/Calendar for Firefox for Android.

Thanks!

I have been a long time user of Thunderbird. I run multiple computers which I like to network share/backup Thunderbird under my User/AppData/Roaming profile. I have been running Beta versions on all of my computers, but any change to the beta version on my primary machine causes me to have to make beta updates on all the others so my copied profile works. I have also noticed many issues with printing on the current beta versions. I want to get off the beta treadmill and simply install the current stable Thunderbird version. When I do this on a machine I am unable to get any of my current profile to work. I have multiple email accounts and have everything setup exactly as I want it, so starting from scratch on the stable version and loosing all my saved folders and email files would be very painful. Is there a way to install the current stable Thunderbird version and bring over my profile from a beta version (downgrade)? I would love to see some type of export and import that would work between versions, but that doesn't appear to be an option at this time.

Hello, As of Firefox 76 there is a new user profile.

For different customers in VMWare /Citrix environments I need to upgrade Firefox from an ESR release to the latest one., but I cannot find a simple solution to upgrade profiles to the new one in bulk.

I found articles about profile managers in combination with or without sync, but that is an option. Customers are within government and public health sector. Data to be sent into the cloud is therefor not an option.

How can I : 1. Have a simple solution to upgrade profiles in bulk.

OR 2. Have an option where users can use the old profile to continue working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use several different computers. As a result, I use a "mobile profile" (basically, this means on a flash drive). Quite often, I go to use one of the computers and I get an error saying that the profile version is newer than the version of Thunderbird on that machine, and offering me the choice of creating a new profile (which I do not want).

The instructions for upgrading suggest that it is automatic, and that you only have to visit the 'About' menu entry to force it. However, these all assume that Thunderbird will start. In the scenario I mentioned, it does not start.

This means that I have to manually go and find the Thunderbird download page (which I can never remember) and then re-install it on that machine.

Isn't there some better way of dealing with this situation, e.g, another application on the Windows Start Menu that will do the upgrade for me?

Hello! I added two gmail accounts to thunderbird (let's call them gmail A and gmail B), with the aim of copying all emails from one account into the other. However, I discovered I really wanted to copy gmail A over to gmail C instead. I want to remove gmail B from thunderbird, but that is my primary account. I am worried that if I remove an account, it will delete all content in my actual gmail account, which I don't want at all. Does removing an gmail account from thunderbird delete the content in gmail, or just de-link the account, which is all I want?

I have followed the Migration instructions over 8 times now and have clearly seem my Roaming Thunderbird folder of nearly 6 Gb moving from PC to Caddy Drive, and then onto the new PC in the Roaming Thunderbird folder. Each time i clicked "replace previous data", and no Thunderbird account has been set up on the new PC. But that's as far as i can get, I cannot get it to open the profile so I can see my 3 years worth of mail. The instructions stop at replace previous data (or whatever the wording is). I'm tearing my ancient hair out as my old PC keeps crashing and I begin 2 training courses tonight to get my web sites and video sales moving. I used to be ok with tech when it was Windows 3.1 but I'm 75 now and am obviously a bit out of touch! H-E-L-P  !! John Reed, York, UK (John O'York on Facebook)

My present iMac is failing rapidly and I will be replacing it with a new Mac very. I do not have a Time Machine backup. The only info I really need is how to copy off, to an external drive, all the bookmarks and bookmark structure), extensions, and add-ons I have added to Firefox, and then add them to Firefox on my future Mac.

Do I just copy the Firefox app to the external drive? I looked in the Macs' base system Library and Preferences, and in my User files, but I do not see anything related to Firefox.

My old (current) and failing Mac is running the latest version of Catalina,

Thanks for any info!

I was cleaning out my hard drive and deleting old installs of Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable packages, and I almost certainly deleted the one that Firefox relies on.

I then attempted to start Firefox, getting the error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

I uninstalled, following the clean install directions, and deleting the "Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/" directory.

Then, I ran the Firefox Installer, newly downloaded, and when running it, it gives the same error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." Selecting "Restore Defaults" has no effect either way. The installer then appears to complete in the background, and the Firefox directory is created, along with the executable.

When I run Firefox.exe, it seems to load the program, but any address I type in fails to begin loading. This includes websites (www.google.com) and help/utility pages (about:config). I'm therefore unable to change any settings within Firefox.

I then tried re-installing the "Visual C++ 2008" and "Visual C++ 2015-2019" packages in an attempt to restore that DLL, but that had no effect after repeating the same steps above (clean uninstall, re-install). Which VC++ Redist Package should I be re-installing? Ideally, I should be able to just get a copy of VCRUNTIME140_1.dll and place it where Firefox is looking for it.
