I operate with several to many windows open (and many tabs). Firefox (Mac) used to list the open Windows in the Window menu in the order I originally created/opened each window. A while back, FF started sorting – and re-sorting! – the list of open windows alphabetically according to the Tab that is currently active in each Window. This means that the window appears in different places in the Window menu list according to the name of the Tab. I DO NOT LIKE THAT because the it makes the Window hard to find.

Is there any way to set this to operate the way it used to - keeping the Window list in the order first opened, regardless of which Tab is open?

I use this dark mode theme: Star Trek in Thunderbird but override Thunderbird so that Thunderbird is in light mode and the folder, message list and message panes have a white background with black text. The override uses the Autoconfig method (for Firefox but it was working also in Thunderbird Customize Firefox using AutoConfig . This is my thunderbird.cfg file in Thunderbird's install folder containing:

// IMPORTANT: Start your code on the 2nd line lockPref("browser.theme.content-theme", 2); lockPref("browser.theme.toolbar-theme", 2);

and my autoconfig.js file in Thunderbird's defaults/pref folder containing:

pref("general.config.filename", "thunderbird.cfg"); pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);

In Thunderbird 145 this worked - all panes had a white background. However, when I updated to Thunderbird 146, the background in the folder, message list and message panes changed to grey with black or white text. With Thunderbird 146, both files are still present and the prefs in about:config are present with the 2 value. The Thunderbird 146 changelog mentions Visual and UX fixes and security fixes.

My Windows 10 colour settings are: default Windows mode = Dark default app mode = Light. These are my preferred settings.

I have changed temporarily to Thunderbird 140.6.0esr and got the white background re-enabled. How do I get the white background and black text back again in Thunderbird 146 please?

I can't find a setting that will allow marking messages as read only after I read them. By that I mean only after I click on the message to open it in its own tab. I view the new messages in a split screen.

The current settings allow me to leave them bold as if I hadn't read them even after I've clicked on the message and viewed it in the full TB pane

or

Mark them as read as soon as they're displayed in the bottom half of the split screen.

I don't find either of these options desirable.

Hi, I dont know what setting I have accidently changed but before I used to double click a new message in my inbox on local folders and now instead of reading it full screen now it wants to send it as an email message to someone!

Any ideas to put it back to just read the email and not compose a message with it?

Thanks.

I dont remember having this 'new message template' thing before when I right clicked on a message in my inbox , maybe thats what the issue is?

EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. i don't need to read it every time; reading it once and confirming is enough. but there doesn't seem to be any way to confirm, or disable this annoyance. how can i get it to stop? is there a setting somewhere, or registry entry i can change?

MY SYSTEM: Thunderbird 140.5.0esr running in Linux Debian Bookworm

I have created a filter from a recently received message via pop. The settings are: OK Manually Run OK Getting New Mail: Filter before Junk Classification

Match all of the following From Contains xyz.co.uk

Perform these actions: Move message to XYZ on my mailbox

Press OK

In the Message Filters window, Run selected filter(s) on: XYZ Press Run Now

There is no response, and all the messages remain in the Inbox.

I have repeated the Run Now process on an old filter (by moving the message back to the inbox), and that works fine.

The only oddity of the current message is that it is a no-reply message eg From = no-reply@xyz.co.uk

Any ideas welcome!

Hi, is there a way to get Thunderbird to move to the tray when I press the X button in the top right corner?

I've tried enabling "When Thunderbird is minimized, move it to the tray" but that just changes what the minimize button does. When I press X, Thunderbird still quits.

I've done some googling and I found this extension: https://services.addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/minimize-on-close/

The problem with it is:

  1. It doesn't seem to work with modern versions of Thunderbird
  2. It lets you either minimize the window or move it to the tray, but not both (X and minimize do the same thing)

Can I get Thunderbird to close to tray only when I press X? So that the minimize button still works normally? Thanks

Threads

I just want all my messages listed by date and time. Ignore the fact that they may be "threads". They are just messages, not "conversations".
