I tried syncing my bookmarks on my computer with my phone. It worked the first go around, but ever since then it hasn't been able to sync any of my bookmarks. So I removed my firefox account on my Android device to set up a new one. Now both my computer and my phone want to enter the 3 sets of digits and provide a recovery key. I can't get a recovery key though because there is no option to get one.

There's no "manage my account" option under "sync".

Earlier today my bookmarks were there. Later tonight, not there.

I've tried the whole restore bookmarks process, I've copied the folder and deleted the places file thing. None of that has worked.

What's weird is if I type something in in the URL box that I know is in my bookmarks, it will show up like it's in the history. But nothing shows up in my bookmarks folder at all.

I need some help on this as I've tried almost every way I've read and nothing has brought them up. And like I said in the title, I have over 800 bookmarks and a lot of them are work related.

If I right click (control-click on mac) to customize, there is nothing to drag to the toolbar to re-populate it. I dragged the dark star on the white rectangle but it had no effect. (Not sure what that icon is supposed to do.)

The only way I can see the toolbar bookmarks is to put them in a sidebar, which takes up an inordinate amount of space.

I recently replaced WinXP with Win7. I have a folder called "Old Firefox Data" that contains my old profile, including my "bookmarkbackups" files for the past few months. I've done the manual replace "Show all bookmarks --> Impost and Backup --> Restore --> Find file" to use the most recent JSON file but when I do this I still don't see my bookmarks (I've gone back a few weeks and used older JSON files too). I've also replaced all the files in my old profile with the new one and again that's all I see are the default bookmarks in Firefox. So what am I missing?

It seems that Mozilla has gotten rid of the DESCRIPTION window when you right click on a bookmark's properties. This was done in July for the Mac version of Firefox and with Ver. 62.0 for Windows.

No warning was given and there are a lot of complaints on the Mac version forum about this change. Again with Windows there was no warning that this MAJOR change was going to take place.

Like MANY other people I use the DESCRIPTION window to store extensive information about a given webpage. You can imagine my shock this morning when I went to retrieve some info and the window was gone. A little digging online found the complaint thread on the Mac change.

I have no idea why this was done. If it was for some security reason then it is understandable........the change that is, not t he way it was handled.

There are solutions given on the Mac thread on how to use another companies add-on to show the past saved descriptions. They are still in the Mozilla data files but are not shown in Ver. 62. You can also do an EXPORT to a .html file and then open the descriptions in the browser. Or you can reinstall Ver. 61.x from the archives and set it to NOT check for updates. This is what I did for the moment.

PLEASE bring back the DESCRIPTION window in bookmark properties. This is absolutely nuts to have to experience what I went through this morning sorting this all out.

XMarks is closing. Eversync is unreliable. So the only sync in town for Firefox users is Firefox Sync.

That makes it a shame that Mozilla doesn't have a review page, where users can rate Firefox Sync and talk over their experiences. It would greatly reassure potential users.

Also, Firefox Sync is under-documented. Does it have, like XMarks, a facility by which users can access their bookmarks when they cannot access their local browsers, e.g. when travelling? No way of knowing, without trying it! Does it sync Folders and the arrangement of links within folders accurately? No way of knowing, without trying it! Does it allow uploads to the server, downloads from the server? No way of knowing, without trying it!

Come on Firefox, a few pages of documentation, please!

I am on a MAC. I had my LIBRARY window open because I use it daily, mostly for bookmarks.

I wanted to delete some specific history links in the large window (with columns like Name and Location, Visit Date etc). I did not notice that the highlighted place was in the left toolbar under History so I accidentally deleted HISTORY--- Today, Yesterday and ALL of April. This is a business computer and this is a BIG problem. I tried several times under Edit to hit UNDO but it did nothing.

Why would Firefox not have some warning box to tell you you are about to delete a large amount of info? And why is it not reversible?

Also I am on my computer EVERY day for hours and the most recent bookmark backup point was today AFTER the large deletion of info mentioned above. And then the next previous one was April 23. So 2 more questions-- 1--why has it not auto backed up in almost 10 days? I don't do any manual backups. 2--does this restore point also restore history?

I refreshed Firefox. The prompt said it would save all my bookmarks and passwords. YOU LIED. The Old Firefox Data folder on my desktop contains the most recent bookmarkbackup file from February 2017, that's six months ago. AND when I try to restore my bookmarks it says "Unable to process the backup file." So I have NO bookmarks, I haven't been able to check passwords yet but presume they are gone too.

I see lots of other people complaining about this same issue. But there are no successful solutions for people who have the "Unable to process the backup file." issue. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE FIREFOX REFRESH PROMPT says it will save bookmarks and passwords but then DOES NOT? You seem to have no solutions for people who have have been trapped into trusting Firefox.

Any help for me?

Hi, For some reason my bookmarks folders are now grey and not yellow.I didn't do anything and i don't have many addons so i don't know what the problem might be. I don't have any theme.I'm using the default one.The addons i'm using are uBlock Origin,MP3 podcaster and one to customize the new tab page. And from those 3 only the uBlock is active in the Beta version.I'm using the 57.0b4 (64-bit) version.Τried in safe mode but the problem still exists.

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I use bookmarks a lot, but i don't like them crowding up my bookmark bar so i cut & paste them to a folder on my desktop, but when i right click a bookmark and Cut it, then paste it into my folder it pastes it there but its still in my bookmarks, in the old version of Firefox when I Cut a bookmark and pasted it on my desktop it removed the bookmark from my browser, why doesn't Firefox do that anymore? or is there a setting that i can configure to make it do that again because its annoying to cut & paste a bookmark then go back into my browser and delete it when it shouldn't even be there in the first place. CUT MEANS TO MOVE THE OBJECT ENTIRELY COPY REPLICATES THE OBJECT KEEPING ONE IN THE ORIGINAL POSITION AND THE SECOND IN A DIFFERENT POSITION.

I have had a bug in my harddisk, so this harddisk is replaced for a new one. But now I want to get my bookmarks back, and all I get is an SQLite file with all my bookmarks in it. And that's not the worst, I have downloaded a program that can open it, but I don't understand a word of what's in this file. I thought that if I opened it, I should read the titles of my bookmarks. But nothing at all, no titles, I'm probably thinking like a fool, but after three days trying every possibility Firefox gives me and three days failing I'm so very upset now. Is there anybody who could help me in clear terms, and is there somebody from Mozilla who can change this, because this is not fun.

I tried to sync my desktops bookmarks with my new tablets Android Firefox and ended up with my bookmarks scrambled on my desktop FF.

I've tried to restore them with the newest backup I could find (4 days old) but FF freezes after a second or two and stops responding. Is there anyway I can manually take the .json backup and replace the current bookmark file with it? From what I understand the current ones are kept in the 'places.sqlite' file but I have a feeling they're not the same format. Someone please help ASAP as I have so many bookmarks it would literally take me weeks to sort them out again doing it full time.

After recovering files to my C drive from Sandboxie (virtual browser) Firefox no longer shows my bookmarks and history. I see the places.sqlite file and others in the profile folder. I can't import because I only seem to have a backup from last month and it's a jsonlz4 file. The places.sqlite file is 10M so I know it has all the data I need but how do I get it to load into Firefox?

FYI, Sandboxie is a virtual browser so as bookmarks are added inside Firefox the file is saved in a virtual space. You have to "recover" said files to make them copy to the C drive. I did that before I cleaned out the Sandboxie (which needs to be done periodically to clean out malware and other junk). I then restarted Firefox after doing this and apparently it was referencing another file (that didn't get recovered) when it loaded my bookmarks.
