While trying to locate the ID#s for all 15 different email accounts managed by my TB desktop app, I discovered that there are two instances of a gmail account, but with different ID#s (although only one appears in my home screen). I've found no way of determining which one is valid, and I can't risk losing my main gmail account if I try to delete one and choose the wrong one. Does anyone have any ideas I might try, to determine which one is the "extra" and how this happened? I've tried looking at the source code for emails in that account, but can't find any ID# referenced there.

I have seen a thread about this, but the request remains unanswered. I am using iMap, for mail accounts in Thunderbird. Under Account Settings you can select folders to be downloaded, but they are only a preset few folders.

I wish to download the folders that I created on webmail. Thanks, Steve

Hi there,

I currently have three email accounts set up in my Thunderbird client. I’d like to disable the automatic marking of messages as read—but only for one specific account (mainly for my colleagues’ convenience, as it’s a shared inbox).

In Settings > General, I see the option to turn off "Automatically mark messages as read", but this would apply to all my accounts, which isn’t what I want. I’ve checked the Account Settings for the relevant account and couldn’t find a per-account option. I also looked for an add-on that might help, but so far, no luck.

Has anyone found a workaround or solution for this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks in advance, Cheers.

It seems to me that the account settings in Thunderbird 140.6.0esr (64-bit) have changed, because without any supporting documentation in 'help' I can no longer see a way to enter a password. I have two gmail accounts which are working but I also have a Protonmail account which has stopped working. The Protonmail Bridge show the following details for entry in the Thunderbird client's account settings:

IMAP: Hostname (127.0.0.1), Port(1143), Username(withheld), Password(withheld), Security (STARTTLS)

SMTP: Hostname (127.0.0.1), Port(1025), Username(withheld), Password(withheld), Security (STARTTLS)

I can enter the following: Hostname, (127.0.0.1), Port(1025), Username(withheld), Connection Security(STARTTLS) & Authentication method (normal password) but nowhere to enter the actual password!

How do I do this and where in the docs is this described, please Thanks

I'm trying to set up my thunderbird client (Version 147.0) to work with my Google Workspace. I understand that I should choose OAuth as the login method. The problem is that the option is not available when I try to create the account. There are only "normal password", "Encrypted password", "Kerberos/GSSAIP", "NTML" and "TLS certificate". What am I doing wrong?

My email provider is terminating the existing email domain name, and replacing it with a new domain name. I want to retain all existing Thunderbird folders and emails for use with the new email. Example: username@q.com becomes username@myclk.com. (Yep, it's Centurylink.)

Can I change my existing Thunderbird account name and email and retain all existing folders and emails in the account? Some server settings would also be changed.

Or, do I need to set up a new account?

Thanks

TBird Set Up - Getting it right the first time (Keep some, but not all email on server, while keeping all email locally)

Hello! I want to set up TBird to: 1) Get all my messages and attachments stored locally, and... 2) Remove *most* of the above from gmail's server to avoid the data limit, but... 3) Keep, perhaps some months or a year of activity on gmail's server so I can access recent items from wherever.

Questions: 1) I have 10s of thousands (more?) of msgs, many with attachments. Is it better to just set up TBIrd and let it grab all the messages, or start by using Google TakeOut? 2) I presume I use IMAP vs. POP? 3) To preserve messages on my harddrive, I could archive to a local folder. Then I could safely delete those same messages on the gmail web interface? 4) If this turns into a disaster, can I just remove the entire account from TBird without suffering a loss of my entire email history? 5) Any insurance maneuvers to prevent the disaster of accidentally losing my entire email history while attempting to set this up? (Obviously will need to be religious about backing up my own system, though keeping a year of email on the gmail server offers a bit of insurance once the set up is successful.)

I am really hoping to avoid creating a unholy mess of my email/spending a week trying to fix it. (Indeed, I have avoided this project for years for this reason, but I really, really want to do this.)

Hi, I’m using Thunderbird with a Yahoo Mail account and I’m seeing two Draft folders in the left pane:

Drafts Draft

Their IMAP locations are different: imap://…/Drafts imap://…/Draft

Thunderbird only saves drafts into the Drafts folder (plural). The Draft folder stays empty, but it always shows up.

What I tried so far: • Account settings → Subscribe Unchecked “Draft” there, but it doesn’t save. After reopening Subscribe, it’s checked again and the folder is still visible. • Restarted Thunderbird multiple times. • Server Settings → disabled “Show only subscribed folders”. • Checked folder Properties, but there are no options to hide it or control visibility, so it looks hard locked by Yahoo.

Conclusion so far: Yahoo seems to force both system folders via IMAP and ignores unsubscribe, so Thunderbird can’t hide or remove “Draft”.

Is there any supported way in Thunderbird to permanently hide or ignore the extra Draft folder for Yahoo accounts, or is this a known Yahoo IMAP limitation?

Thanks
