I've noticed that whenever I press ⌥⇧Space (option-shift-spacebar) in Firefox Developer Edition, it causes the page to refresh.

This behaviour seems to be consistent across devices.

Is there a way to change/disable this behaviour? It is very inconvenient, as it often causes me to accidentally trigger a page refresh when I type an em dash (`—`) in a text input (opt-shift-dash, and then type a space character after it, I'm very likely to hit opt-shift-space by mistake 🙈).

HI I have the latest Thunderbird installed on my Redmi Note 8 Pro (Android 11). When I try to write an email and add an attachment (e.g., a photo), the system file manager opens. After selecting the file, it doesn't appear in Thunderbird. Sharing a file from the file manager via Thunderbird results in the same issue. Only when sharing a file through the system Gallery app to Thunderbird can I attach and send it successfully. In the permissions settings for Thunderbird, I only see options for Camera and Contacts. There is no option for Files and Media. I couldn't find a solution to this problem anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have 8 email accounts on Thunderbird, 5 Gmail and 3 Outlook. My newly added Gmail account has stopped downloading email, while all the others still work as they should. I keep getting pop-up messages from Thunderbird “Server imap.gmail.com has disconnected”. The problem started yesterday and only 1 of the 8 accounts. This new Gmail account is transferred from one of my Hotmail accounts. I have 7800 emails on the server waiting to come down. Alfred

I am (again) running into trouble with spelling.

I got this offered to me: https://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu-sn&channel=fs&q=how+to+set+dictionary+in+firefox

Doesn't quite work. Wrong things declared, etc.

I see a "badly spelt" word. Double click, go to add dictionary.

To the best of my knowledge, it is installed. Others point me to about:config spellcheck.dictionary

But that is not really offered to me when I am typing the name. So probably doesn't exist.

I'm trying ITMT, but would like some help please.

Thunderbird was removed in context with a fail installation. This was not obviously.

After that I've installed the program again. The mails I've got back again in this procedere have stopped with last mai. Thunderbird was host of three accounts: The aol account was rebuild completely. The gmx account was rebuild until mai. So its looks not like normal procedere.

I've asked for a solution-without a bill.

Is Thunderbird working well with your AOL account now?

What do you mean that the gmx account was rebuilt until May? That it shows messages up to May, but not after? What happens when you try to send and receive messages through the gmx account now?

Rick

I've checked again.

1.The aol account isn't complete. The mails I've received after new install Thunderbird stop with last mai. From september I've received them again.

2.The GMX account is empty from last mai until new install in december.

3. The thirth account gmail.com has been disappeared completely.

I hope this clears your last question. With restoring account is meant receiving emails after the new install of Thunderbird.

I can send an receive mails now as usual but I didn't get the mails of the indicate periode. These are partly important documents for authorities.

AOL: is working now, but shows no messages received between May and September. GMX: shows no messages received between May and December. Not clear if it is working now. Gmail: no longer exists in Thunderbird. Is that correct?

Were the missing messages in IMAP folders or POP3 folders or local folders or some combination?

Steps to take:

AOL: Can you see the missing messages when you log into aol.com? If not, do you have a back-up? GMX: Is the account working now? Can you see the missing messages when you log into Web mail? If not, do you have a back-up? Gmail: Can you set up your account again and tell us what you see? Would you please also tell us what was going on in May and September and December? When did you re-install Thunderbird? Did you re-install Thunderbird more than once? How did you re-install it? Have you been using Thunderbird since May? Have you been accessing the messages through another e-mail client or over the Web? When did you notice that messages were missing?

Did you re-install Thunderbird because your accounts were not working? Re-installing Thunderbird does not help with send and receive issues.

I understand that you would like a quick solution, but this situation is complex. It takes time to gather information and diagnose the problem.

My guess for now is that Thunderbird is working properly. Your messages were deleted at the server or through another e-mail client or by how you re-installed Thunderbird. You will not find the missing messages unless you have them backed up somewhere. But that's just a guess. Let's hope for a better result.

koffie koffie Question owner 12/25/24, 2:13 PM more options "AOL: is working now, but shows no messages received between May and September.

Gmail: no longer exists in Thunderbird."

Thats correct. See at GMX.

The mails both from pop3 and imap were stored _______________________________________________

"Would you please also tell us what was going on in May and September and December?" -Nothing else. I'm unsure what you mean.

"When did you re-install Thunderbird?" -last week.

"Did you re-install Thunderbird more than once? How did you re-install it?" -No, one time./ Sudo apt-get...

"Have you been using Thunderbird since May?" -Daily

"Have you been accessing the messages through another e-mail client or over the Web? -No

"When did you notice that messages were missing?"

-Ca. two weeks ago.

"Did you re-install Thunderbird because your accounts were not working? Re-installing Thunderbird does not help with send and receive issues."

-Thunderbird was missing.

"AOL: Can you see the missing messages when you log into aol.com? If not, do you have a back-up?" No/No

"GMX: Is the account working now? Can you see the missing messages when you log into Web mail? If not, do you have a back-up?"

-Account is workin. I dont see missing messages.

You will not find the missing messages unless you have them backed up somewhere. But that's just a guess. Let's hope for a better result."

-The missing emails are missing just for short but different periodes of 6 month on aol and 8 month on GMX. Your speculation is not logical and frustrating if you send question which have obviously no meaning.

These mails exsist further. Only the recovering has been stopped for some month for unknown reasons.

1. What is your native language?

2. How have you been accessing your mail between May (when your mail stopped) and December (when you first posted a support request)?

4. Which linux distro are you using, and how was Thunderbird installed?

A different approach??? These questions are fake after over two weeks. Generally without substance and known already. What did you done, what will you do, when, concrete?

The forum MozillaZine is refusing access to its help channels by users. Obviously this attack is an agreement between your address and MozillaZine. I've never been in contact there before. Its identical with the provocative situation here.

1. What is your native language?

-not important to the issue 2. How have you been accessing your mail between May (when your mail stopped) and December (when you first posted a support request)? -again:thunderbird

3. Which of the three accounts (aol, gmx, gmail) are currently not working? -again: all

4. Which linux distro are you using, and how was Thunderbird installed? Ubuntu Oracle. How installed? -it was part of the first Ubuntu / reinstalled now by packagemanager .deb

Note: This is also an accessibility issue as those of us with limited or impaired motor control can be inordinately affected in a way that limits our use of Firefox or makes it virtually impossible to use in any use-case more complex than browsing YouTube.

Issue: There are certain, pre-defined, keyboard shortcuts within Firefox whose action is both immediate and irrevocable. Those of us who have limited, or impaired, motor control are particularly susceptible to this, though I have heard anecdotal evidence that other - unimpaired - users suffer from this as well.

Example: There is a particular key combination that I periodically, (accidentally), hit while typing that immediately and irrevocably clears the dialog that I am entering text into - as I am doing here - with no possibility of recovery and no warning that a potentially disastrous action is about to take place.

My specific case, (that is, the most recent instance of my specific case), occurred last night while composing a reply to a topic within the Microsoft Flight Simulator forum addressing a particular, and popular, issue with the sim.

I spent a significant amount of time creating this message - setting paragraph formatting, creating tables, inserting images, carefully crafting the text and such like, that had taken me upwards of an hour to prepare.

While typing - I managed to inadvertently hit a magical "Nuke-and-Destroy" key combination that caused all my lengthy, careful, painstakingly crafted work to immediately vanish with no chance of recovery.

To this very day I still have no idea what combination of keys does this - and if I knew, I would try to suppress it at the keyboard/system level so that Firefox never sees it.

When I searched for a solution to this problem, I found the following article on this site: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1364260]

In essence, (though it was worded much more politely), the answer was that Mozilla knows about the issue of potentially undesirable "magic" key combinations, has no plans to address it, and if you don't like it it just vacuums being you.

Though this particular key combination might be useful in certain cases, (though I cannot imagine what use-case would benefit from accidentally destroying hours of work), the utterly irrevocable nature of the action - and the absolute lack of any warning whatsoever - makes this a classic case in the annals of horrid user interface design; to the point of being a functional bug even though it works as designed.

A more desirable action would be to:

  1. Allow it to be disabled entirely, along with the other potentially annoying/disastrous keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Provide a (default) action that warns the user that this action is both immediate and irrevocable and allowing the (default) option to abort the action. Extra credit: Allow the user to permanently disable the offending feature from the dialog.
  3. In the unlikely event that a particular user might wish to use this regularly and deliberately, allow the user to bypass the warnings and permanently enable the feature - with the caveat that it vacuums being them if they do something wrong - not unlike the disclaimer when accessing about:config.

I would suggest that this action, and the action of other "magic" keys/key-combinations within Firefox represents a significant burden to those of us who may already be struggling to use a keyboard. Perpetuating this class of issue, especially since it's a known issue and there's no desire whatsoever to accommodate those of us negatively affected by it, borders on both arrogance and ableism.

I would like to humbly place this request at the feet of whomever is responsible for this atrocious policy and earnestly request they reverse this unpleasant and destructive behavior.

Respectfully submitted: Jim Harris.

Added image: [a blank page representing the results of the magic "Nuke-and-Destory" key combination. ]

Under Local Folders I have created four subfolders. Each subfolder is a category. As an example I have a Software subfolder (Local Folders / Software). Under the Software subfolder I have additional subfolders (Local Folders / Software / Microsoft - as an example). I can add the Software folder as a Favorite folder. The problem is that if I select the Favorite Folder Software it is empty. I was hoping that it would show me all of the Local Folders / Software subfolders. Is there anyway to accomplish this? I have found that if I collapse the subfolders under Local Folders it is easier to navigate, but I was hoping to be able to see the Local Folders categories and when I click on one of them it would show me all of the folders under that category folder.

Any suggestions?

In certain instances, I can no longer copy/cut from Cardbook notes. This happened in last few months. I just have time now to post the problem. I know since then Thunderbird had updates and so had windows. I am on Thunderbird 128.5.2esr and Windows 11 and firefox 133.0.3 I used to be able to select a word or many words and then right click. Then copy or paste would show up as option in a list. Now no list shows up. But control c and control v sometimes works. If I control c and control v within the note that works. I can copy from something like Word and control c and paste using control v and vice versa. But if try control c in notes and then control v in website that does not work. And that is what I use most.

I just setup this firefox extension to help me manage my 800+ tabs - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/simple-tab-groups/ . This might have even been causing Firefox to crash and my computer to restart, but I'll save that for a separate issue. The extension has some suggested shortcut keys, particularly Ctrl + Backtick and Ctrl + Shift + Backtick to switch between next and previous Tab groups. I tried to go to Manage Extension Shortcuts in settings, and tried to specify the keys Ctr + Backtick, but the input box would not accept the key. In fact it only seems to accept Ctrl + <alpha-numeric> key. or Ctrl + Alt + <alphanum>

Is there anyway to enable this? Most keys like Ctrl + alphabets appears to be already mapped by firefox's default mappings. my Ctrl + numbers are also similarly mapped by another tab extension to switch tabs.

Thanks, arun

Back in the days it was always possible to change Proxy port number (or, I believe, any other numeric value) by moving the mouse scrolling wheel when the cursor is placed inside the related field. I don't know whose intelligent decision it was to disable this functionality, but it has gone since the last update (v130.0). Now the window scrolls regardless of the cursor position. It looks like it works fine, but for those who are used to this kind of functionality, it turns out to be inconvenient.

Please, roll this back before it's too late :) Thank you.
