I am running Linux Mint and Thunderbird 140.9.0esr (64-bit). When I try to setup my Comcast email account I get errors and the program basically stops. For example "can't access property "cleanup", this [#configVerifier] is undefined". When I allow Thunderbird to do the initial search and follow its recommendation I get this error: Error creating account Incoming server already exists

I have Tbird running on two other computers THAT HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF. I noted that if I tried setting up Tbird on my newest Mint installation, i.e., Tbird running on my Windows machine, it would also fail to make the account.

I am at a loss as to what is going on. Any ideas???

Hi all,

For quite a while I'm working together with others on a voluntary base (nobody gets money) as members of a computer-club, a charitable NGO and NPO (in German: gemeinnütziger Verein) for seniors in order to bring them closer to the use of digital devices and media. It's not only teaching, but administrating the hard- and software as well.

I can remember that it was possible in former versions of Firefox to include at least a script into "defaults->prefs". I think it was user.js (not sure) in the installation folder to define common preferences to be fixed, like proxi settings. It always worked well, preventing non-privileged users from making any unwanted changes. As a I found out there must have been a very similar way to include add-ons (like uBlock Origin).

Unfortunately all content I found was older than about 10 years. When trying setting up Firefox as it is now, my test system didn't care about anything I've tried.

I'm talking about > 50 Windows-PC having in average 3 user profiles each (for teaching more than 400 members). We are amateurs regarding PC administration, except some network ex-professionals. "Baking" installation media including our needs, as I already found on Mozilla's pages, seems to be beyond our abilities as well as distributing a fitting profile (we don't have a MS-server), not speaking about Group Policies.

Is there any usable guideline for people like us? Today, each FF-installation looks different and I would like to unify this as easy as possible.

Saying "you can turn off the AI" is NOT enough, Mozilla. Nothing is ever "turned off" unless it's completely removed. This is Microsoft's playbook BS; "but you can turn it off", but for some reason the system is always using a metric ton of memory, lagging and whatnot. You, of all companies, should know this and be better than that. Nothing good is ever force-installed and impossible to remove. Unless you all make it installed completely separately so people like me, who are a significant part, if not most of your user base, can not install it, nothing short of a full renunciation of the CEO will suffice to make we trust you again.

"Internet for People, not profit" is seeming more and more like blatant false advertising every day.

Recently Mint upgraded my FF to v147 - possibly relevant, possibly not. There's no post mentioning anyone having this issue on the Mint forum though.

In my Settings, "Open previous windows and tabs" is definitely enabled, but it doesn't happen. I only get my homepage custom URLs.

I went into troubleshooting mode and FF then behaves.

So I figured the issue must be with an extension - but I disabled all my extensions, and it doesn't help. Only going full troubleshooting mode fixes it.

What do I do next please?

Sync is a nightmare. It is so unintuitive! What exactly would be wrong with having separate Export and Import buttons for each of Settings, Addons, Tabs, History, Bookmarks, etc? I have a desktop box and a newer laptop I wanted to get up to date. I pressed the Sync button on the desktop ... By the way, there`s a link below that reads "Connect another device" ... Connect where? Someone is designing these interfaces who has absolutely zero imagination. Anyways, I signed off, moved the ethernet cable to my laptop, signed in, pressed Sync, and voila!, I got my Bookmarks, at least. But I have no idea how to get my tabs and windows. I tried with a "download link" something or other, but it seemed to assume I was sync-ing to a phone, and didn`t work. Any way to get my tabs?

Hello,

After upgrading my Thunderbird install to version 60.2.1 on my Xubuntu 18.04 machine, I cannot access my mail anymore, because there seems to be a problem with passwords.

Symptoms:

- When starting Thunderbird, I get an "Enter your password" box for each of my accounts even though I had my passwords saved.

- When I go to Preferences -> Security -> Passwords -> Saved Passwords, the list is empty.

- When I try to enter a password and save it, it does not actually get saved and Thunderbird will ask again soon after.

- The following line is logged to console a whole bunch of times:

JavaScript error: jar:file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja!/components/crypto-SDR.js, line 179: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Couldn't decrypt string

Other findings:

- Downgrading Thunderbird to 52.7.0 fixes the problem. The old saved passwords just reappear again and Thunderbird has no problem logging in.

- Starting Thunderbird 60.2.1 on a Windows 10 box with exactly the same profile folder works fine. It can read the passwords and access my mail accounts.

Can you please tell me what to do to fix this, so I don't need to keep using an old version of Thunderbird just to access my mail?

Thanks,

Hi,

I am using Firefox for Linux, and whenever my yubikey is plugged in, firefox will start bothering me for a pkcs#11 password. It always happens on start-up but it gets relentlessly annoying if I happen to be on a site which potentially utilizes certificate auth, which I do not use this yubikey for.

I do however use it for 2fa, which does work perfectly fine.

Hi,

Someone sends me a calendar appointment for 11th of May at 16:30-18:30 and another at 18:30:20:30. I accept these appointments. In my calendar, they correctly display at these times.

When I close and re-open Thunderbird, the first appointment is now scheduled for 12th of May, but the second is fine. When I close and re-open Thunderbird again, the second appointment is now scheduled for 12th of May as well.

The times are completely different too.

I'm using Thunderbird 138 from the Arch Linux repositories but I've also tried the Flatpak package to no avail. I've tried setting my Timezone manually and using my System timezone to no avail.

GNOME Calendar, which is also synced to my Caldav server, displays the appointments at the correct day and time. The web interface for my mail server also displays correctly.

It's only Thunderbird that screws it up time and time again.

This has been going on for years and it is driving me insane. I can't use my calendar with Thunderbird because I keep thinking my appointments are at the wrong time!

Send help.
