Spammers Bypassing Filters

I have an email filter set for a domain that has been sending many spam messages. It was working but now they have started to use my name portion of my email address in their email address. For example, if my email address starts with bobp@ then the email address at the top of the email is bobp@ncqkl.com. The domain is real.

The only option for the first column of the filter I am aware of that can be used is "From", "Contains" and "Email Address". I don't believe Thunderbird allows domains. I have tried ncqkl.com to no avail. Somehow they are getting around filters by using your email name portion. They were also using multiple different addresses all with the ncqkl.com domain.

Is my best bet to use the adaptive spam system? I haven't really used it in the past as I haven't needed to. I don't get much spam usually as I don't have much of a presence on the net. Just lately the amount of spam has increased considerably.

Thunderbird sends me spam reports, but I cannot open the mails considered to be spam, nor do I habe a spam file. I only have a junk file, but this does not contain the mails considered to be spam in the spam reports I get. Recently I received several mails I could not open because they ended up as spam. Why do I have a junk file, but not a spam file where I can decide if the mails are spam or not?

TB 140.7.0 32bit, Windows10 64bit

My email provider implements black-box spam processing, with deemed spam redirected into a "Spam" folder at the server end which by default is flushed every 60 days.

To view all the incoming mail, I now not only need to view the account Inbox as TB presents it, I also need to log in to the provider's Web interface to inspect the account's Spam folder. I'd rather view this Spam folder through the TB interface to avoid extra logins.

So I

(1) Created a Spam subfolder under Local Folders using the TB interface. The Properties function reports its path as mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Spam (the Inbox path is reported as mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Inbox). These paths are read-only as presented by the Properties function.

(2) Used the Config Editor to set mail.server.default.check_all_folders_for_new to TRUE.

(3) Restarted TB, verified that check_all_folders_for_new was indeed TRUE.

However, while the account's Spam folder was known to contain 2 entries at the server side, the end-user Spam folder was not populated, whether by way of TB restart or manual invocation of the Get All New Messages function.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

I am running Thunderbird 140.6.0esr on a Windows 10 desktop PC. Yesterday I was accessing my inbox and had a problem. I marked a message as Junk in the message bar. My virus software, TotalAV, flashed up a Red message box say HTML issue - Junk. Following that Thunderbird gave a message saying Junk folder full and greyed out the button on the Message bar. Then the Junk folder disappeared from my folder list and now pressing Junk for a message causes no action. Before the Junk folder disappeared it had 2 unread messages.

My Junk settings say "Junk" folder on: my account name.

I do not know how to proceed. Please help.

Hello,

I wanted to empty the trash in one of my email accounts in Thunderbird. Normally I would right click on the trash folder and then there is the option to empty the trash. Unlike ever before and on this one account (gmx imap) this option doesn't exist anymore - I can't empty the trash. I went into the account settings and ticked the option to empty the trash on exiting but after quitting Thunderbird and restarting it, the email is still in the trash.

What's wrong here? My suspicion is that I would need to mark the email in the trash as read and only then I would get back the option to empty the trash? I don't want to do that, I want to be able to empty the trash whenever I want to or on exiting Thunderbird. I don't want to be forced to mark an email as read before beeing allowed to delete it. Please help.

By the way, it was very difficult to even get to post this question here. I also don't really find this forum to be user friendly. Is this supposed to be the official Thunderbird forum? Or is that somewhere elese? Thanks.

Hello,

I need assistance with a very specific Thunderbird issue.

I use Thunderbird with multiple email accounts. Every one of them has a functioning Junk/Spam folder except for one: my Google Workspace account max@dantanas.com

. This is the only account where Thunderbird refuses to create or recognize a Junk/Spam folder, and the option to assign one is disabled.

I am not looking for general explanations about IMAP, Gmail, filters, server policies, or Thunderbird’s junk logic. I need a concrete, step-by-step procedure that results in:

A visible, usable Junk/Spam folder for max@dantanas.com

inside Thunderbird.

Thunderbird recognizing that folder as the Junk folder.

The Junk settings becoming available so the account can move spam to that folder like all my other accounts do.

To be clear:

All my other accounts in Thunderbird already have functional Junk/Spam folders.

The problem is isolated to this one account.

I need an exact sequence of steps that I can follow to fix it, not abstract descriptions or background information.

Please provide a direct, step-by-step set of actions that will enable Thunderbird to create or use a Junk/Spam folder for this account.

Thank you, Max Makowski max@cape-co.co max@luck.fish

  • Bulleted list item

I have built up a collection of more than 400 deleted emails in my 'Deleted' folder. I am sure I will not need to refer to any of them again, and I would like to finally remove them. In the past, there was a command among the various sets of commands at the top of the page, which removed all of them, after confirming that this is what I wished to do. I can no longer find this command. Please tell me where to find it. If it no longer exists, tell me how to deal with 'deleted' material.
