I have used Thunderbird for many years with my plusnet email address john@jonela.plus.com. Plusnet no longer manage emails and have migrated to Greenby. Could I transfer my email address to Thunderbird as I do not wish to use Greenby.

Is it possible to change the account name in "Account Settings" without any issues and will this make the mail folders accounts panel on left of the screen show the newly entered name for folders and sub-folders under sent, archive, etc?

The reason I ask is because I think it is ok to initially name the account as whatever I want, as I think the account name is for my own use only, but I'm not sure if changing an existing account name may cause issues or if TB uses the account name for anything.

I have 4 IMAP accounts and 1 local account. I would expect them to be shown as account 1,2,3,4,5, but Thunderbird's troubleshooting info shows them as 1,2,5,7,8. Please see attached picture.

Any idea why? Has something gone wrong? They all seem to be working ok.

When I open my Thunderbird I obtain information: "free link provider, Account is not properly configured".. The problem is I am not able to find a mistake, I have not changed anything in my configuration in recent months. What to do?

Can't access or re-add my existing outlook account to thunderbird 147.0. Tried using my password, an app password. Nothing. Keep seeing the same error over and over again.

I am using version 146.0.1. When I try to change accounts order from "Account Settings" by dragging and dropping the account and restart TB then it is returning to previous order. So I am not able to change the accounts order. Thank you. Ulvi

I have a new Mozilla (FireFox) account and keep getting emails that say I need to confirm it. They include a button to do so but I'm not clicking it unless I get better information from you. Please help. The email swears my account will be deleted if I don't confirm it. What do I do?

After many years of using Thunderbird with an AOL account I changed my password in AOL to increase the security. So I had to install the AOL account again in Thunderbird. I created an app password in AOL and put it in Thunderbird. Everythin fine so far. AOL login window opens automatically. But after login to AOL the message "somthing went wrong" and "try on anther device" pops up. I tried it on several PC's - no way. Other mail clients like Mailspring oder Mailbird did work with the AOL account. What is the problem?

I have 2 hotmail accounts that Thunderbird can access but my wife's one has not since set up.

I have had to set up new email account for my wife because her one she has used for 10 years will end after 6th January 2026 because email service provider is ceasing email business. I have an hotmail address that has worked seamlessly with Thunderbird for 10 years. If it is tried in Thunderbird to access the new account to check for new mail it either states not authorised or not connected. I have tried adjusting settings to be same as mine but not succeed in solving. I am at a loss. Maybe it was easier set up accounts 10 years ago?

My profile did previously work with news.eternal-september.org, although I very rarely used NNTP. The last active use might have been as long as July or August 2023.

A few days ago I added news.gmane.io, it did not appear in the sidebar.

news.eternal-september.org:

• was originally in the sidebar, and responsive
• is not in the sidebar after removing then re-adding the account.

Can anyone reproduce this issue?

Thunderbird 140.0.1 (64-bit) on Kubuntu 25.10. Neither Flatpak nor Snap; my configured software sources include packages.mozilla.org/apt/ for deb.

/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/packages.mozilla.org.asc exists.

The profile was previously used on FreeBSD 15.0-CURRENT, if that's relevant.

Using Thunderbird 146 on Win 10. Trying to add existing mail accounts as already did in early Thunderbird 17. 1. one pop account (gmx.net) added successfully. 2. one imap account (gmx.net) added successfully. 3. trying to set up further pop accounts of gmx.net end in waiting loop although data check of program is ok. Checked and verified muliple times server data, account and pw.

Hello, i have three PCs with installed Tunderbird. On one of them i want to add a new mail-account. If i follow the instruction here: [https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/automatisch-konto-konfigurieren#thun...], it leads to an input mask (not a Tab!!!), where i can enter an account-name and the mail-address. Clicking on Continue some automatic search is started but never stops (=> screenshot).

As i tried to do it several times now and tried to find other solutions, red instruction etc., i write now. Also: Im not sure if it is a bug.

I already mentioned in the beginnig: I have three PCs here. I used one of the others compare, wehere it works as described in the documentation (not an input-mask, but a Tab). So the probem occurs only on this PC, not on the other. Systems: Not working on win11 Thunderbird 144.0.1 (64-Bit) Working on win10 Thunderbird 144.0.0esr (64-Bit)

As my subject states, I am a long-time TBird user - not a wizard or expert, but technically savvy. Now ... with version 140.0.1esr (64-bit), I cannot create a new account as easily as I once did on prior versions.

To be clear, my policy has always been to create new accounts for "A, B, C, and D" for each new year like what you see, left to right, in "Image-1." That has made it the easiest for any research about prior received or sent messages.

Attempting to do that now doesn't work. I put info in every panel; I setup for POP3 and enter a new password; then click Continue and get the message you see, left to right, in "Image-2."  :-(

I could really use some specific, successful advice ... PLEASE!  :-)

I realize this is a lousy day for advice!!  :-(

I'm retiring!!! I have my personal gmail account on Thunderbird (it's IMAP) on my work PC. I want to delete that account, BUT I want my personal emails -- past and present -- to stay on the gmail server. Is this possible?
