I'm a web developer that setup a local environment under Linux Mint.
For some reason, Firefox Developer Edition (59.0b7 64-bit) cannot access sites on my localhost. The interesting thing is that Firefox Quantum 58.0.1 (64-bit) is showing these local sites perfectly fine. I've tested other browsers, including Konqueror and Lynx, and these work fine also.
I've setup my environment so that apache2 can serve pages from a 'wildcard' virtual host. Using symlinks, I can link my project files to another directory that functions as the web root. Thus:
/home/me/business/projects/client/index.html => /home/me/business/www/client/index.html
Navigating to http://client.dev brings up the page perfectly in Firefox 58, Konqueror, and Lynx.
However, Firefox Developer Edition, AND Google Chrome, both fail to load the page. The URL changes from http://client.dev to https://client.dev and throws this message:
"Unable to connect
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at client.dev."
I've played around with the about:config settings for Network.dns.* but nothing seems to help. Also, the apache logs do not produce anything useful.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone.
I'm trying this again. Firefox crashed when I was logged in so I'm doing this in Chromiun now. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit. Firefox is 56.0 64 bit. About one week ago, I received a notice about an Ubuntu update so I installed the update as always. After the update, on certain websites, they start to load then Firefox crashes. I was on this site eailer and typing this when I opened another tab to see what plugins were installed and it crashed. I was using Adblock, Noscripts and other plug-ins. I disabled each one, one at a time, and it still crashed. I then did a refresh on Firefox to have only the minimum orginal plug-ins installed. It still crashes. I then totally removed Firefox and deleted the /.mozilla directory and reinstalled. No change.
Now, The default plugins are: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc & Shockwave Flash
The default Extensions are: Safe Browsing Version 4 (temporary add-in) & Ubuntu Modifications Legacy
If I disable them each by hand, Firefox will still crash. If I disable them by restarting in safe mode, Firefox will work as normal. Here are at least two sites that won't load:

Hope this helps. Many thanks all. Mike

I have not used my PC for three weeks and today I tried to log in to my Amazon account, but every time I tried to do the login it crashes, I also found it to crash in other websites like Reddit and the AMD Support Site. It is Firefox 58.0.1 64-bit in Ubuntu 16.04. I tried refreshing firefox and nothing, it also removed all extensions leaving only the default plug-ins: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc & Shockwave Flash. If I disable them manually the websites will still crash. The only way Firefox will work normally is if I restart it in Safe Mode. I also tried installed the new 59 64-bit Beta version, but is causing the same problems.
The latest submitted crash reports are:

I'm using FireFox on ubuntu lts 16.04 as a kiosk making use of a very handy add-on. The system was looked down to prevent anyone for browsing anything but localhost. Now anyone can jump on my kiosk and browse / download anything they want. It is no way more secure than what it was.
Even after using the about:config options the updates still update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will find a more appropriate browser option for the kiosk but for now I'd really like a way to stop the update short of shutting everything down.

Could this be a working configuration on the long term? Currently it is running like a charm...

Is it possible to make my right-side scrollbar larger and easier to see?
The scrollbar to the right of my Firefox window is small and difficult for me to navigate. Is there a way of making it larger and more visible?
Thanks!

Both firefox and thunderbird crash directly to the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" on startup. This also happens in safe mode.
So far I re-installed firefox through the package management (first completely removed it including configuration files, then installed it again). The profile created by the re-install is still completely empty, there is no data from the original profile and no plugins.
The button to automatically add troubleshooting information doesn't work for me (probably because I'm using chrome now), so I'll try to add relevant information. If anything is missing, please ask.

How do I make the toolbars smaller? Since upgrading to the latest version, they are twice as tall as they used to be. The text in them is still a reasonable size but the toolbars take up twice the vertical space they used to. This has nothing to do with the size of the page I'm viewing so Ctrl+ or Ctgrl- has no effect.
Thanks for any help. Attached is a screen shot showing the wasted space at the top of my screen with the new toolbars.

This sounds more like an issue with Microsoft but it probably isn't because other browsers like Google Chrome doesn't have this issue. The domain "attachment.outlook.office.net" is unreachable/unresolvable in Firefox (58 and earlier versions) in Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit. All the attachments that are delivered with Outlook are hosted in this domain and whenever I check Outlook e-mails using Firefox in Ubuntu the attachments are unavailable. They are there in the e-mails, sort of, but they are shown like shortcuts that don't lead to anything.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and after the latest update I ran on Firefox, loading a webpage left me with a white screen/page in the browser. I removed Firefox, reinstalled, started it up and had the same results. After that, I removed the ~/.firefox folder, supposedly containing user and browser settings that are kept. This fixed the browser, but I noticed my laptop fan working at full speed. I opened the System Monitor and saw that a core is running @ 100%. I'm attaching two screen shots of this, opening 2 tabs (facebook and soundcloud) and keeping them open. After closing the browser the processor goes back to idle. I'm wondering whether someone could help guide me.
Best Regards

-I'm using Ubuntu 14.04. -In November, 2018, Comcast/Xfinity changed a few of their email settings, eg POP3 port 110 changed to 995. They also mentioned that they prefer we don't use POP3 any more. It's moot, though! -In November, I suddenly stopped being able to receive. I've had their tech people help me set up as either POP3 or IMAP and neither works. After an hour (over two hours yesterday) they always end up saying it's Mozilla's problem. -I've uninstalled Thunderbird several times, including deleting hidden files that contained remnants. -I usually get the message ""Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account." -Other attempts give me "Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?", or "User name or password invalid." That is wrong! -On Xfinity's site, I can both send and receive directly from there. They claim this proves the problem is with you. -I'm suspicious that Comcast/Xfinity has changed their setup and Thunderbird hasn't been updated.

Using Ubuntu 18.04 with KDE Plasma.
When a new mail arrives Thunderbird plays a sound and shows a notification, but when I'm not at the computer at that time I just miss new mails as there is no other indicator that a mail arrived. This used to be fixed by the New Mail Attention addon which made Thunderbird's icon flash in the panel until clicked, but "New Mail Attention is incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1". What now?
