Hi all.

Previously, when moving to a new computer (Windows 11) with Thunderbird, I would install a new instance of Thunderbird on the new computer and run it once. This created the default Thunderbird profile in the Profiles directory. I would then copy the contents of the existing Thunderbird profile into the new one. This allowed Thunderbird to be fully operational with all accounts and filters working, requiring no further setup.

In version 140, I have followed the same process. While I do see all of the email accounts, they are not functioning.

Any advice on how to do a migration with Thunderbird 140 version?

I would like to back up my huge email history which is saved in numerous sub-folder folders on my Windows 11 computer. According to Thunderbird settings, my profile should be at the default location: C:\Users\jorda\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\5ypfc1q9.default-release\ImapMail\imap.dreamhost.com But when I open the AppData folder, there is no sub-folder named "Thunderbird". In the "View" menu, "show hidden items" is checked. In the Troubleshooting menu, under Application Basics, Profile Folder, when I click on "Open Folder (Local drive)", I get a message saying: "C\Users\jorda\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\5ypfc1q9.default-release is unavailable. If the locatoin is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted". Yet Thunderbird is still working fine and all my past emails are accessible. I'm stumped - can anyone help me find or expose my Thunderbird profile folder?

I just downloaded Firefox and came to the page for importing data to Firefox, where it says " Import browser data" followed by a box containing "Microsoft Edge" in the next line, then

Select the data you’d like to import. Favorites Saved passwords Browsing history Form autofill data

then the prompt to Import

Is this a trick for Edge to import the data rather than Firefox or as it should be for Firefox to Import the data including that in Edge? As you might have guessed - I don't trust Edge or Microsoft one little bit.

I've tried 7 times to import my bookmarks from Chrome into Firefox. Firefox says that the import was successful each time, but the bookmarks aren't showing up in the Bookmark Tool Bar. It's only showing the older import, not the latest. If I go to one of the new pages, it shows that it is bookmarked, but the list that it belongs to is nowhere to be found....

So how do I update to the newly imported "Imported From Firefox" folder?

I need to backup Tbird so that I can reset my PC, then reinstall Windows 11 and all applications. (There is malware that I and Tech Support have been unable to find.) I am familiar with the procedure for moving my profile to a new PC and have successfully executed it before. However, my installation is a little different. In addition to saving / restoring my profile, I also have to set the Local Folders parameter from the Account Settings menu, pointing the Local Directory to files on my HDD. I also seem to remember that the order that this is done relative to copying the profile matters, but I can't remember the details. Can someone help me out?

By creating a backup from the .Thunderbird in Ubuntu 22.10 LTS i've got a failure "datasystem does not serve symbolic links". The file "lock" in dkfjslf.default couldn't be copied. I think, it will not be a problem, but it ist irritäting to get such a message, and it isn't named in the help files on this website. By the way, there is no chapter about backups. so it is difficult to find any articles about that.

Hi all, I have a new Computer and I'd like to transfer my Thunderbird installation with the complete settings (folders, mails, archives, address-book, ...). Also the calender would be of interest, because I have some settings which I want to keep. Is there any way to do this? I have access to my old computer, so I could export everything there and import that on the new one, but I did not find something to do that. Can you help me? Regards, Gerhard

Hi,

I am moving from a Windows 10 desktop to Windows 11 desktop. I can see how to move Thunderbird data to a new computer, but my question is:

Does moving Thunderbird data from one computer to another as described in the video and help pages also move the local folders which were originally created on the Windows 10 machine? If not, how can I do this?

Thank you, Barry

I have an 8 year old PC that I have been using Thunderbird on its entire life. I have 5 email accounts (from my own website if that matters) on it for personal use that have tons of information.

I bought a new computer and have not been able to move my old data to it. The old computer uses Windows 10 with Thunderbird Version 115.5.2 (32 bit). The new computer uses Windows 11 and I have tried several Thunderbird versions with the current one being 128.12 0esr (32 bit). I have added one of my email accounts to my new computer, but it contains none of my previous data (emails, contacts, directories, etc.), just a bare bones account that only receives new email.

I have repeatedly tried to move my entire source computer setup and data going through all of the described steps including copying the previous Thunderbird folder to a flash drive. I then follow the directions for copying and pasting my source data into the new computer's "roaming" section. It goes through all the steps including asking if I want to overwrite existing files. I have almost 14,000 files and as the process continues, I can see file names being added just as I would expect.

After everything is complete, when I restart Thunderbird, the only access I have is once again to the bare bones new email account. There is no data, nothing at all, from my source computer.

Help please, this has gotten beyond frustrating.

Hi. I installed Firefox on my old Hp, and have now taken another laptop, an Acer Aspire One and installed Firefox on that as well, but a extended support version. I am struggling to import all my bookmarks (ex Chrome) to my Acer, and in the struggle I done something wrong since Firefox on the Acer is now locked or blocked !! I am an "old Timer" and not very computer literate. Can someone help me solve these issues so that I can move away from the HP and depend on the Acer. I found Firefox easier to use as compared to Chrome, which seemingly demanded more memory from the computer.

I have the Android T-bird app on my Google Pixel 9.

I am having constant problems with it not syncing.

This morning, when I swiped down, the kept spinning but did not connect. When i tapped the sync icon at the bottom left of the screen, nothing!

Nothing changed after rebooting the phone, which BTW takes almost twice as long as the reboot on my previous Samsung phones.

I have now uninstalled and reinstalled, and imported my settings using the QR code on my desktop. It imported my accounts, but asked me to sign in or sign in later. There is no link for signing in immediately, and sign in later does not allow any sign in opportunity.

I now have no emails imported to the app.

Any help would be appreciated

If anyone knows how, please don't hesitate to answer.
