Software used: Firefox ESR 102.15.1 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 8 with the Xfce4 desktop environment in version 4.16.3.

I run two Firefox windows on two different virtual desktops. Most open tabs in each of them are tied to the workflow I use on each desktop, in case this is somehow important.

Problem description: Sometimes, Ctrl+clicking on HTTP or HTTPS links will open the resource in a new window instead of in a new tab. This appears to be random, and does not depend on the link target. It is also not properly reproducible, so the same link may work just fine and open the resource in a new tab as expected on another attempt to Ctrl+click it.

Properties like browser.link.open_newwindow or browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external are unmodified and set at their default values.

I can drag the new window's only tab back into the browser window in which I originally clicked on such a link, but this is becoming tedious. Sometimes I overlook this, resulting in a chaos of multiple open Firefox windows with multiple open tabs in each of them.

The behavior I would expect: When Ctrl+clicking on links, their resources should always open in a new tab, never in a new window, unless it's a link with a protocol that Firefox by itself won't handle and where it will have to rely on another program to open it (e.g. ftp://, ssh:// or mailto:somebody@somedomain.com).

My request: I would like this to be fixed if it's a real bug. If I am somehow responsible myself without knowing why, please just let me know what I might be doing wrong.

If there are some workarounds for this, e.g. some properties I could set in about:config, help with those would be appreciated as well.

Most information I can find about similar problems is pretty old by now and pre-dates Firefox 102.15.1 by many releases and years. All suggestions I could find about what one would need to change in about:config to fix this seem to be the default by now anyway.

Thank you very much!

I recently upgraded someone's computer to a later version of windows 10. They had Firefox 102.6esr and I upgraded that to 102.15.1. They didn't want to upgrade to 115 yet for a number reasons.

This was an in-place upgrade.

After the upgrade all attempts to install an addon (Let's take canvasclocker as an example), or any theme (I tried many) all throw an error in a red bar saying an unexpected error occurred.

I followed this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/unable-install-add-ons-extensions-or-themes

And method B from here: https://www.askvg.com/how-to-fix-unexpected-installation-error-203-problem-while-installing-extensions-and-themes-in-mozilla-firefox/

I also saw a post somewhere I can't recall about downloads being blocked so I checked about:config but didn't see anything unusual (compared to my settings).

What might be causing the error?

i do not want the new update of firefox, and theres no way to shut off the updates. i can only switch to ask me when to install and manually install, not that i do NOT want to EVER install the latest firefox, because it truly SUCKS. it screwed up all the fonts everywhere on the web, somethings are huge and others are too small to read. i woke up a couple of days ago to an unreadable internet. i had to reinstall the last update before this one, start from scratch with all my passwords and a lot of hours of messing with my computer just to have it bearable and able to read my emails. now it keeps prompting me to install the latest. like every few hours i get an annoying pop up to install the latest. then to get it to go away i had to click on something, that downloaded it even though i dont want it. i seriously may have to switch browsers and abanadon you all completely because thats how bad your latest update is, and thats how much it sucks to not be able to stop it form harassing me every few hours to instal it....with no way to turn it off completely that i do not ever want the latest crap update.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am using Firefox Browser 102.15.1esr (64-bit) on a MacBook Pro Ventura 13.5.2.

I have been using the www.dictionary.com website for a long time, but recently when I attempt to go there, I keep getting the error message as follows:

I tried clearing caches under Privacy & Security, but the problem persists.

(Meanwhile, I can visit www.dictionary.com on Safari and Google Chrome.)

Could you please let me know what is going on?

Thank you,

Roland
