I am struggling to set up calendar and contacts sync between Thunderbird (v155@ubuntu26.04) and my google account. I use a university account to access google services, so my google account is not some.name@gmail.com but some.name@myuniversity.cz. I understand that Thunderbird somehow needs to invoke OAuth2 process with google, but I do not know, what to fill in the "Hostname" or "Location" fields for Contacts and Calendar, respectively. Any help? Thank you.

Most other email clients I've used have had a way to manually "expunge" a mailbox, i.e. delete the messages which are marked for deletion. This includes Thunderbird on a machine at home (I'm traveling right now).

On this laptop I'm using Thunderbird 102.12.0 on macOS 26.6.2. All of my mailboxes use IMAP. Thunderbird is using Maildir for local storage on this laptop, and I believe the same is true on the machine at home (also macOS 26.6.x, not sure of the exact Thunderbird version), but I won't be able to verify this until I get home tomorrow evening.

On both machines, when I delete a message, the message list shows that message with a line through it, corresponding to the IMAP "marked for deletion" flag. The same is true on the other email clients I've used over the years.

On the machine at home , when I right-click on an account's "Inbox" folder, there is a "Compress folder" option which expunges the deleted messages from the mailbox. This option is not present in Thunderbird on this laptop.

So my questions are ...

• Is the menu item I'm talking about, only present when the account uses MBOX for local storage, and maybe I missed a step when I created the account on the machine at home? (If so, I know how to fix that when I get home.)
• Every email client I remember using, all the way back to the original `pine` in the mid-1990's, has had an "expunge" command of some kind. Does Thunderbird really not have a way to manually expunge a mailbox? If so, this seems like a fundamental oversight on the part of the Mozilla developers.
• Or is there a way to do it, and my old eyes just aren't seeing it on the menus? (which is entirely possible)

(Side question, totally unrelated) ... why does the text entry control I'm typing this message into, have its own markup language instead of using standard Markdown? (And yes I am, at least in part, being old and gumbly here ... you kids get off my lawn!)

I am unable to add my Outlook email account to Thunderbird Desktop. I keep getting an authentication error when entering the Outlook password which I know is correct. Adding my Gmail account was no problem.

I am using Thunderbird 140.12.0esr 64 bit under Linux. I was obliged to change my Gmail password. I deleted my Gmail account from Thunderbird. I than proceeded to Add a new account and entered my Gmail account and new password. A blank window popped up: 'https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth?response_type=code&client_id=406964657835-aq8lmia8j95dhl1a2bvharmfk3t1hgqj.apps.googleusercontent.com&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost&scope=https%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2F+https%3A%2F%2Fwww.googleapis.com%2Fauth%2Fcarddav+https%3A%2F%2Fwww.googleapis.com%2Fauth%2Fcalendar&login_hint=gizzenbriggs%40gmail.com' I suspect that this is from Google asking me to confirm my password. Unfortunately the window is blank and I cannot enter anything. Consequently I cannot add a new email account to Thunderbird.

8.24.2026 As of yesterday, Thunderbird Inbox new messages have no content showing. Today, a few new messages can through with a date stamp only-- no subject or sender info and no content when clicked on. Ran the Troubleshooter procedure in which all old Inbox messages vanished. Some slowly came back with subject/sender info but now their content is missing. Today, Spam folder held new messages w/subject/sender line and content showing. But still no new emails with/subject/sender and content. just a time stamp. What's going on?

I wish to have a non American email client, but most free ones have a 1GB limit. Can I set Thunderbird to save all emails to my home PC so that if I delete the email in the email client, it is still saved on my home PC? So far I have not downloaded or installed Thunderbird, so just asking if it is posible, if so I will install Thunderbird.

Thank you for the advice on copying the Thunderbird folder, which I have done. However, what is failing is the adding of further existing email accounts. I enter the Account name, the email address and the password but I still get Authentication error. I have, after some difficulty, succeeded in adding five accounts with three different hosts. The further accounts I wish to add use two of the hosts of the successful additions.

ich benutze Thunderbird 154.0 unter Windows 11 Pro, aktuelle Updates. Seit geraumer Zeit bekam ich die Meldung, dass Ordner Posteingang nicht komprimiert werden kann, weil er ungültige Daten enthält. Das habe ich heute abgeklemmt, indem ich die automatische Komprimierung abgeschaltet habe. Danach war eigentlich alles gut und ich hätte besser nichts mehr machen sollen. Aber dann entdeckte ich den Button "Ordner reparieren". Nachdem ich den geklickt habe, werden mir im Posteingang keine Mails mehr angezeigt, Anzahl = 0, Größe auf Datenträger jedoch 2,3 GB. Die Daten scheinen noch vorhanden zu sein, nur die Anzeige scheitert. Im Papierkorb sind die vermissten Mails auch nicht zu finden. Alle anderen Ordner sind inhaltlich ok. Ich habe eine 5 Tage alte Sicherung, die ich auf einem anderen Windows-11-Rechner mit frischer Thunderbird-Installation eingespielt habe. Leider zeigt sich dort nun das identische Problem. Hat jemand eine Idee?

I bought a new computer and want to transfer my emails, calendar and anything else to start using Thunderbird and lightning. I don't want to lose any information. I hope it will be seamless as I use it for business. Both Computers are Dell Laptop with Ubuntu . I am just really old and not too savvy with tech stuff. Will you help me make the necessary transfers? Ever grateful...Thanks, Frances

As above, is there any EASY way to edit the Subject line on a received email. These days, most accounts are via email, and currently if I receive a bill for payment, I have to add an XNote or something similar, to note that I have paid, which means that you then have to open that email, to see it... Would be SO much easier, if I could just add a note to the subject line. Realise that you can (laboriously) go through the actual mail files and edit/create a script to do this, but before I go through the process, was thinking there must be an easier way??

I have been using the INBOX that is under my email address. This worked for years except one time before when the same thing happened where the messages are from years ago. I have to go further down to use ALLMAIL to get the current messages. The INBOX shows "3" while the ALLMAIL shows 5,626.

So, the INPUT is not current as before but old messages. How do I fix this?

I had Thunderbird on my Windows 10 computer. I bought a new Windows 11 computer and downloaded Thunderbird. When I try to set up my email account, I provide my full name (not my Thunderbird user name) and email address. The next screen has the message "Configuration found in Mozilla ISPDB ". I clicked on IMAP and hit continue. The next screen I type in my password for my Spectrum mail account. I have confirmed that the password works went I log onto the Spectrum website. The next screen has the Authentication error "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.". I've also tried using my Thunderbird user name and Password instead of my full name and Spectrum password with the same results. I know my Thunderbird user name is correct but I can't be 100% sure that my Thunderbird password is correct.

I'm not sure if this matters but my email has the has the extension ----@socal.rr.com. This was assigned to me by my original email provider, which was Time Warner Cable. Spectrum bought Time Warner Cable a few years ago and I think Spectrum uses a different extension.

What is the best way in TB of organising the storage of email messages on my local storage device:

• Many folders/subfolders, each containing a limited number of messages?
• Few / One Archive folder containing all messages, each message tagged with one or more tags for easy search/retrieval?

I would prefer the latter, but I am unsure if there are any limitations to how many messages that can be stored in one folder i TB.

• Are there any practical limitations regarding the no. of messages in one folder?
