Hi, I have been long time Thunderbird user. Never had issues before and never had issues while moving my profile files to a new PC or new hard drive. I always have been maintaining my profiles in a separated files drive. My main hard drive used for OS/Programs is failing. To save time I decided to jump back to use an old SSD where I already had OS/ Programs, one of them Thunderbird, which i guess was not up to date. By accident I opened this old Thunderbird and even when it showed all my email folders, just asked for credentials for some accounts. I stopped all and shut down. Went back to the old HDD, loaded OS, opened Thunderbird to recover one account password and when I went back to the hew HDD, Thunderbird is asking to create new account (like the profile is new). I verified that the profile is pointing to the correct profiles folder. Shutdown again, went back to the old HDD, opened Thunderbird and, dang..! same thing. So, now I can't open any of my accounts and old emails. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying with utter lack of success to configure a Thunderbird install to link to a Gmail account via IMAP.

System Basics: Windows 10 Home, 64bit, fully patched. Antivirus by MalwareBytes 4.30 Premium, fully updated. No fancy firewall, just a regular router.

This account had been installed and working fine until a family member "helpfully" changed the Gmail password, but reauthentication fails. I enter the account details, including password, into the Thunderbird Accounts settings for the account; it pings Google and correctly retrieves all the IMAP settings, and when I click "Done" Thunderbird opens a browser window to Google's two-step authentication with the email address prepopulated. However, when I click the blue "Next" button on that authentication page, rather than advancing to a password screen, the browser simply deletes the email address from the text box and stays on the same screen (see attached image for what I'm talking about).

Things I've tried:

  • Uninstall, reboot, reinstall Thunderbird.
  • Turn off MalwareBytes protection.
  • Uninstall, delete every registry key related to Thunderbird, reboot, reinstall Thunderbird.
  • Clear cache on every browser on the system
  • Change Windows default browser settings to either Chrome (see below) or IE/Edge
  • Install new browser (Chrome wasn't yet on this PC), then change Thunderbird's file handler for https to Chrome (this is MUCH harder than it used to be as T-Bird v. 78.anything doesn't have the old "Preferences" menus)

Incidentally, changing browsers doesn't seem to make a difference in that pop-up browser window, so I suspect Thunderbird is using its own internal browser and not the system browser.

I have, and can send, the support info extract from T-bird to a support technician but am unsure of uploading it here. Nevertheless, I welcome suggestions ... this is driving me nuts!

Every time I start Firefox, it tells me it is installing updates and will restart shortly. Why is this happening to version 88.0, which is supposed to be the latest version. It is an endless cycle.

I also use Ninite to maintain application updates. It tells me Firefox is running (although is definitely NOT) and refuses to update it.

I really miss the ability to have a "Save As" choice when i download pdf's or pictures from the web I'm always on the latest version of Firefox but only gets 'Open', Open with' and 'Save'...

Often the downloaded files gets lost in the wrong folder or hide itself with a crazy name that 'the web page' has given it.

AS both Google Chrome and Windows Edge offers that possibility and has for long, please include that feature in the next update...??

Thank You

Hello. Had installed Mozilla awhile back, then uninstalled it but could not remember why. After re-installing, the issue has come back and think it best to ask. I use Free Download Manager and the add-on is active and downloads OK. Problem comes when handling streaming videos. When an object I intend to download has a download button, FDM automatically picks and handles the download; however, when I right-click a streaming video and "Save Video As", Mozilla does not pick the download via FDM but switches to the traditional download method. Interestingly, same scenario in Chrome and Edge, the "save video as" via FDM works picks perfectly. Please help. Thanks
