First, this post is basically Congratulations for Firefox upon working almost flowlessly under this extreme heavy load without crashing. Saving/loading sessions works well. (which is unexpected but makes me _very_ happy :-)) Firefox exits properly without any exceptions, no matter how long it runs, or how many times the PC is sent to STR mode meanwhile.

Second, everything is fine, except RAM usage. No matter how many RAM is installed, Firefox takes up all of it after a few days of normal operation. I have recently upgraded my PC from 16 to 24 GB of RAM only for this sole reason to see if anything changes, but it did not produce any noticable change, except that it takes 5-7 days for Firefox to fill up all the RAM instead of the 3-4 days before. Disk space on C: drive was nullified by Firefox as the paging file went up to 50 GB.

I want to hunt down this thing. I have approx. 300 tabs, 2 addons, and Hardware Acceleration is disabled since otherwise Fox hangs several times a day (have to be killed from outside). Pics are attached. https://addons.mozilla.org/hu/firefox/addon/tree-tabs/ https://gitlab.com/kroppy/TreeTabs

I'd like to get suggestions where to start.

  1. Disabling or replacing the adblocker ?
  2. Inspecting memory usage on Process Manager (about:processes) and Task Manager (about:performance) pages ?
  3. Installing some external tools like Firemin ?

Please don't suggest neither safe mode nor disabling all addons, since that makes it impossible to reproduce this amount of load, which is the primary reason behind the symptom.

I PrtScr'ed Process Manager and Task Manager, see that RAM sizes per page are normal in Task Manager, but not in Process Manager (10 times more).

CPU usage is totally normal for this load, even when memory is in the heaven. See the TaskMan pic. (I suppose that's because of ad blocking)

Thanks for any ideas,

Peter B. (I'm PC enthusiast)

Hello!

I have been using this userChrome.css code to hide the tab bar if there is only one tab (on Windows):

tab:only-of-type, tab:only-of-type + #tabs-newtab-button {

   display: none !important;

}

#tabbrowser-tabs, #tabbrowser-arrowscrollbox, #tabbrowser-tabs > .tabbrowser-arrowscrollbox {
   min-height: 0 !important;

}

Since one of the recent Firefox updates, this code does no longer work. Maybe because there is a new element in the tab bar: A drop-down list at the right.

Any idea how to make the above code work again?

I'm using a new PC with Windows 11. I downloaded Firefox. When browsing in Firefox it has several times caused the whole screen to go black, and the only way to get back is to turn off and turn on again. Even then the Firefox page sometimes comes up again and I have to be quick to tap the X on top right to shut it down - or the whole screen goes black again! Then when I restart Firefox it re-loads the page, so I have to quickly exit before it happens again. So this morning when it happened I just did a full restart of the PC. Then I transferred all my tabs and other info to Edge, and will use that from now on.

What is new that is causing Firefox to do this?

I imagine I could also use Chrome, haven't tried that yet.

Greetings from North-East of France, since a few weeks ago I'm seeing a (sort of) pop-up window suggesting to login with a Google account (see the screenshot attached). I've done some internet search to find out how to get rid of it, but the only suggestion I get is to modify an option in a Google account. However, I do not have a Google account! How to get rid of this disturbing pop-up? I already use Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin, yet Google passes through them! Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

the labels toggle button on google maps is unresponsive in both satellite and maps views. where do i find a setting to allow this button to become active? can i program the button to become active? thanks for any help.

i'm on windows 11 and use firefox web browser. both are up to date. i tried it on the microsoft edge browser and it works.

i've tried disabling all addons, restarted firefox, and problem still exists.

next i went through all of my firefox settings and toggled those that might apply. problem still exists.

next went into about:config and checked all settings not set at default. toggled any that might apply. problem still there.

any other suggestions in the community? is there a particular area of firefox i should look into closer. i would prefer not to have to reinstall or reconfigure firefox on a wholesale level. i have it highly customized and it would take multiple hours over a number of days to get everything back to where it is. this is the only site giving me a problem, and only this function on the site.

under layers/more the globe view toggle works fine, only the labels view toggle is not working.

i inspected the button element in 'firefox inspect' and found the attribute disabled="false". google maps is not honouring the attribute. when i remove the attribute, the button works. i cannot apply this across sessions though.

Hi there!

I'm attempting to migrate my Firefox (106.0.3) profile from the Linux Mint V20.3 on one SSD to a new installation of Linux Mint V21 on a separate SSD. I'm using the information supplied on this page:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Step 4, under Backing up your profile says: Right-click on your profile folder (e.g. xxxxxxxx.default), and select Copy.

This folder, qspfoqtl.default, contains 1 file, named times.json, the contents of which are:

{ "created": 1618792039414, "firstUse": null }

Clearly, not my Firefox profile.

There is, however, a folder named nnob5aww.default-release that contains a bunch of directories and files (505.4MB) with names like bookmarkbackups, browser-extension-data... storage, weave.

Is this documentation incorrect as of this release of Firefox? And, should I be using the nnob5aww.default-release folder as the profile? I'm a little confused. (Most often, I'm a lot confused.) Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- Ralph

How to force Firefox stop autoplaying videos when I'm switching to the i.e. new YouTube tab, but in the same time do not pause a next video on YouTube playlist. Some time ago it worked well, but now if I set Block Audio or\and Video in settings, I have to manually click Play, and with Allow Audio and Video chosen it starts playing video immediately after I click on another tab.

I've noticed over time that the History, or Library or whatever Mozilla wants to call the History, does not record all pages that are visited - and now it's getting worse and mixing pages up.

It's just been an annoyance until recently, but it has now caused me and my partner real issues, especially with his work.

Today it happened again but I have the time to actually come and tell someone about it in hopes that it actually gets fixed...

Here is what happened today, as happens all too frequently when I go to use the HISTORY function in Firefox accross multiple devices and installs over the past year or so;

I wanted to find a video I watched on youtube on the morning of the 7th November to show my friend, I know the title of it so I started typing it into the address bar to bring it up in the HISTORY but nothing appeared - here we go again I thought.

I might have thought maybe I misremembered the title if this had not happened multiple times already but I went through the motions anyway.

I know exactly when I watched it, so I opened the HISTORY and - because there is no ability to search for an actual date range for some daft reason - I started scrolling.

I got to the 7th, and there were videos I watched before, and videos I watched after, but not the video I was looking for - but there is a video I watched another day there in it's place.

So I opened youtube, went to my history there, scrolled back to the same videos, and sure enough, the video I am looking for is there and the video that is present in my HISTORY is not.

In the screen clippings attached, You can see that in my Firefox HISTORY and Youtube watch history match except for one thing, the 4 minute long "Contouring 101" video that I was originally looking for is present in my youtube watch history, but not on my Firefox HISTORY.

In it's place is a video titled "Life Changing, Tom Shares the Fight for his Life." - which is a 30 minute video I watched on the 31st of October - according to my youtube history and my memory - but not my Firefox HISTORY.

You can see the gap in my Firefox HISTORY where the "Contouring 101" video should be is just 5 minutes, makes sense it took me 5 mins to watch a 4:17 min video and then choose what to click on next, right?

I used to love the history function on browsers, years and years ago it was so good. Now it seems to just be an unmaintained afterthough with minimal functionality and no thought to accuracy.

is there any way we can go back to a accurate, concise and functional HISTORY? Or do I have to find another browser or third party solution?

Thanks for your time.

Firefox Updates:

Automatically install updates (recommended) = OFF When Firefox is not running = OFF (It's on but greyed out because of the above setting) Check for updates but let you choose to install them = ON

Is it normal that firefox still creates this "telemetry" folder even when auto updates are OFF? C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a854-e594e9c1fb38 UpdateLock-CA7422744AE1A41C

C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a854-e594e9c1fb38\updates\CA7422744AE1A41C update-config.json {"__DEFAULTS__":{"app.update.auto":true,"app.update.background.enabled":true},"app.update.auto":false}

As suggested i added these two lines to firefox.cfg lockPref("app.update.background.enabled", false); lockPref("app.update.background.scheduling.enabled", false); Seem like firefox doesn't give a ****? How can i once and for all fully disable both these settings? Automatically install updates (recommended) = OFF When Firefox is not running = OFF

By the way, during the installation i DID NOT install the maintenance service, so why exactly is the exe in the directory anyways??

Today I received another Email from Firefox titled 'Superpower #2: protect your whole device with a VPN'

How do I ensure that Firefox do not email me regarding anything? I like to setup block lists as a last resort.

I do not have any mobile device to sync with Firefox. HOWEVER, I would like to sync with Outlook.com from Microsoft. Centurylink my ISP provider was off-line for quite a while so they could create a better email program and when they finally came back online, last week, there were a list of things in computer language that I am supposed to do but do not understand. Like you, whenever I want to ask a question I have to send it via email then the response is the same thing listed in their instructions, NO HELP at all. Now, on a daily basis, I am receiving emails from Microsoft Outlook stating "Please update your credentials for the account Rhonda89@q.com." "It looks like we don't have permission to get email for Rhonda89@q.com."

The daily emails from Microsoft Outlook started on October 24, 2022, about the time Centurylink Email came back on line, I think. They did not send any messages advising us of this. I happened to find the information when I looked for it online.

I am still attempting to reach someone at Centurylink for help...lol

In the meantime, is there anything you can do to assist in this endeavour.

Thank you, Rhonda Caywood

It's 7 months since the last thread about failed downloads and there was no solution found then. Is anyone still experiencing failed downloads (from yahoo, aol mail servers especially)? Answer - I am! I have to keep using Chrome (which I don't like, it's slow) and I have all my bookmarks in Firefox and it's a quick browser. Please Mr Mozilla, fix this issue! As posted back in 2021, the feature suddenly stopped with the update at that time (around 102 or earlier). Now we're on 106.0.5 and still not downloading.
