OK - I have searched and Googled.
This happens with FF 46 32 bit, 64 bit, portable, on Win 7 32 bit, 64 bit and windows 10. It happen in safe mode. It has all plugins up to date. I t has remove all but needed and non removable add ins - such as Flash, Acrobat Reader, etc. It happens on computers with plenty of RAM (16 GB). Oddly enough, it happens worse with safe mode and plugin container is run-a-way. With normal mode, it appears that plugin container is under control and Firefox itself runs amuck.
So - totally repeatable. Page down in Firefox with one or 50 tabs open - no matter. It will crash. Goes black, or stops responding. Until Firefox closes. NEVER happens with Edge for example.
I have to think it is a Firefox memory leak, but even using Firemin does not help much if at all.
What can be done? I have done my homework!

hi about 2 days ago ff stopped working. i type an address into the usual window like i've done a million times, hit enter, and nothing happens. i click on a bookmark, the url shows up in the address window, but nothing happens. there are maybe 3 bookmarks that still work, and all the rest are duds. auto-complete still works, but firefox refuses to take to the address. i get a lot of "flash crashes" (thanks, adobe) so i recently updated flash, and that started the problem. this is why i distrust updates. (for the record, i keep current with firefox updates, even though it is still bloatware that uses 2 GB just to run 3 windows. anyway, any help you could offer would be most... helpful! (not sure why my exclamation points are printing as open-brackets, but hey, whatever, that's the internet) thanks, tim

Moderators, please read first before closing/removing this topic right away?
To those wanting to react here on this topic: please, also read ;)
Since my original posting https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997009 was closed because one of the moderators felt it was going off-topic (although it was red a lot and had 131 "have-this-problem" in just a few days), here a kind of re-opening but on-topic.
Why? Because I feel we have the right to express our feelings on this major change. And publicly there is actually only this forum where that can be done on the Mozilla.org domain.
Sure, the change is there and we have to live with it (if we choose to). But that doesn't mean we can not have our voice here because after many, many years of supporting FF with our use, we suddenly are facing a layout we were always running away from.
So yes, that can cause ranting and so on (within the forum rules of course) because people feel strongly about there beloved browser.
(edit rules link note the whole topic is ordinarily outside the scope of the forum ... Posts in the Mozilla support forum must be either questions about the use of Firefox, ... Users who post about things other than Mozilla support will be directed to an alternative discussion place .... . ~J99)
Plus this way you can centralize all the negatives here instead of a lot of separate postings about the same subject ;)
To the people reacting here in this topic: there is only 1 real way to let Mozilla itself know how you feel on the new lay out and that is not through this forum. The way is to go to https://input.mozilla.org/feedback/ and let it know there.
edit You need to use a supported Firefox to post Feedback so that will soon not be possible from Fx28 2nd edit. I was wrong feedback works with any version of Fiefpx now~J99
And I think when that is done in normal words (so no f*ck you rants and so on) and suggestions, then maybe, just maybe, it has some effect.
Also, there is an Mozilla support page with info on how to get the "old look" back, see How to make the new Firefox look like the old FirefoxBut it will only partly restore the old look, certain FF29 things can not be changed.
And yes, I myself am back to Firefox 28 which is not supported or suggested by Mozilla because it has things (bugs and security) that are not fixed in it. (Edit Please use Official downloads if you must downgrade links in Install an older version of Firefox and the growing list of exploits you will open yourself up to is listed here: https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html ~J99)
I am not suggesting or advertising to others to do the same. It is a risk I am willing to take and only say it is an option.
edit My reason to go back to FF 28 is because that version still has the intuitive feel and look Firefox one was praised for. With a logical lay out and a good way to simply customize it (also in about:config).
For those who say/think "Come one man, stop whining! Grow up and just accept that Firefox has to go with its time!", to them I say: nope ;)

- Before update from FF27 to FF28 it did not happen. (I use Windows 7.)
- Safe mode does not help.
- Clearing cache and deleting Facebook cookies does not help. Neither new profile nor clean install helps.
- There are no crash reports within Firefox as well as no Windows error logs generated.
- Other browsers on this computer do not have this problem, another computer with FF28 that I use works well. Firefox 28 on this computer with Ubuntu Linux works.
Edit: I got Firefox not responding even at going through conversations (messages). So I can generalize that any operation at Facebook, during which three "waiting" bars appear, can lead to the not-responding state of Firefox.

Periodically Firefox will randomly bookmark the page I'm on without any prompting from me, and without telling me. I have no idea how often it does this, but every couple of weeks I'll scroll to the bottom of my bookmarks menu to discover anywhere from one to fifteen new bookmarks that I didn't put there. All will be pages I remember visiting within the time since I last looked, and some that I visit particularly often (like my homepage or my email page) will be bookmarked in duplicate as many as five times.
When I checked earlier today the bookmarks included (if I'm remembering correctly) Google (3 times), two or three different Wikipedia articles that I read earlier this week, my email inbox, 2 questions I'd answered on Yahoo! Answers within the last few days as well as my "My Activity" page on the same site, my email inbox (twice), my profile page on Sporepedia, and an article I'd recently read on some mythology blog that I neither follow nor recall the name of. I think there might have been one or two others, but I'm not certain. I've since removed all of these from the end of the list.
The first time this happened (that I'm aware of), there was a new separator after the last bookmark I'd actually put there and before the new ones (the new bookmarks are always added at the very end of the list, uncategorized), although I've since gotten rid of that separator and no more new separators have appeared.
Has anyone else had this issue? Do you know what might be causing it, or how to fix it?

After updating to Firefox 27 all webpages take a few dozen seconds to several minutes to load. When loading a webpage Firefox's status displays "connecting" and the CPU gets maxed out with 95 to 100% of its cycles taking by Firefox.
The computer is older so it is a little slow but Internet Explorer 8 has no trouble opening the webpages and neither do other computers on the LAN so it is not a network issue. I have tried restarting Firefox, disabling add-ons, deleting add-ons, disabling hardware acceleration, restarting the computer, and reinstalling Firefox after wiping every trace of it and its user data from the hard drive and registry.

Updated 30th April 2014 to mention the outstanding known issue (aka the bug with only three votes) - Just below that jigebren has kindly summarised some workarounds at that particular time and the issues found from this thread /questions/985969?page=3#answer-546599

- Workaround,
A chrome hack to disable the throbber may resolve the issue as a workaround allowing pages to load quickly. See my post /questions/985969?page=4#answer-595327

- Session restore brings up tabs that I had closed before closing Firefox. Sometimes it even selects a tab that I didn't have selected when I closed it.
- Leaking memory like nobody's business. It went from 500 MB to 1.5 GB overnight (i.e. while it was "idling" minimized on the desktop).
- The config.trim_on_minimize setting is missing. Why is this?
- When the memory usage gets above ~1 GB (FYI, this is a guess), I start seeing problems with Firefox displaying web-page graphics and even, in one instance, shutting down text input on a web page (this was within Facebook).
- Randomly crashes for no apparent reason. FYI, this happened after I updated to Firefox 28 as well.
None of these problems ever happened before I upgraded to Firefox 28 and 29. I'm very close to abandoning Firefox altogether if these problems are not resolved promptly and permanently. In other words, I've nearly had enough of this. Whatever happened to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

This has been going on for awhile, I've made posts about similar issues but I have yet to hear anything. My Firefox is "broken" I guess that would be the perfect term for, At least my Firefox. I experience slowdowns on all webpages, it crashes, it freezes, I get what seems like an unlimited amount of "Unresponsive scripts" which forces me to use task manager to end the Firefox process because waiting for it to debug itself or letting the script load does nothing at all. Even the great check-able "Do not remind me again box" does nothing, I don't even bother checking the box because if there's another unresponsive script, even though its the same error the notification pops up still.
Firefox's memory usage spikes from 500k-900k all the way to 2million, I have exited Firefox and have also tried to use the task manager to end the process when it spikes because Firefox is unusable when it gets that high. Even though when I completely exit out of the Firefox program and use task manager to end the process, If I start Firefox back up the memory usage will climb back to where it was which is usually around the 1.5mil range then from there it goes to as high as 2.3mil then just crashes on me.
This has been going on for awhile now and nothing seems to be worked on.

OS : Windows 7 x64 I was using Firefox 48.0.2 (x64) - french version. I manually downloaded and installed Firefox 49.0 (x64). After installation, Firefox does not start : - the firefox.exe process is running, using something between 5000 and 65000 Mb of memory - nothing else happens : the process does nothing, using 0% CPU
I've seen this issue : - on several PC's of my organization - after automatic update or manual update - after having deleted my Firefox profile - after having disabled Kasperky Antivirus
I've noticed that the last version of Firefox Developer Edition has the same behaviour : install OK, won't start.
Going back to previous version is OK : Firefox starts again.

When we got up this morning my mum had a message on her computer telling her to download Mozila FireFox system tools 17.54.5468 - the message popped up when she tried to play a facebook game. We clicked it and downloaded it and the computer seemed fine after that (but we did notice something called uniblue was now on her computer). Then i got onto my computer and when i tried to get into yahoo groups i got the same message. I also got a different message when half way thru watching a video on youtube a screen came up saying that the certificates for youtube were invalid or didn't exist. I deleted firefox completely - including the folder in programs (x86) - reinstalled it and i can once again play youtube videos (so far) but i'm still getting a message for Mozila FireFox system tools 17.54.5468 when i try to get into yahoo groups. My question - is 'Mozila FireFox system tools 17.54.5468' a real message from you guys and if its not, does anyone know how i get rid of it? I have Windows 7 and its a desktop if anyone needs to know.

No matter if I delete the first three lines of /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script, I'm getting the same kind of errors.
Please, any ideas about this?

As of this morning, I cannot get Firefox to work. I am using Windows 7. I click to start firefox and it looks like the program starts. It opens a Window with the minimize, maximize, and close buttons but the window contents are blank and the load icon appears. I can minimize and maximize the window but I cannot end the program. If I use CTRL-ALT-DEL, I can see that firefox.exe is running but I cannot end the task by selecting End Process. If I try to start another instance of Firefox, I get a warning box saying "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."
Nothing I try will end the process.
I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox but the problem persists. I tried doing a fresh install with all previous add-ons and whatnot ignored but it still won't run. I've tried running it with the anti-virus disabled as well as with Windows in Safe Mode but it won't work.
Any ideas?
