HI, I have recently bought a new computer and as part of the changes I have decided to ditch my previous Microsoft packages as I do not wish to pay for Office 365.

Part of this change has meant exporting my emails and Calendar from my long serving Outlook 2007 and I have decided to use Mozilla Thunderbird for both of these functions.

The emails section is now working ok but I am having issues with both Calendar and Contacts.

I followed guidance for exporting the Calendar from Outlook 2007 and importing it to Thunderbird. The individual Diary/Events do appear in Thunderbird but there are no details included in the entry. The Event simply has the start and end time and the title "Busy".

I am not sure whether my error is in the exporting from Outlook 2007, the importing to Thunderbird or something else?

Hopefully you can give me some guidance to resolve as I really need my diary to function effectively. Thanks

I need some help. I started using Thunderbird a few months ago. Lightning was installed day-1 but has not been used as I favor a very old calendaring program called WinDates. Today I exported my WinDates calendar to .ics and tried importing it into Lightning using the instructions for adding a Holiday calendar found in the KB. It was very straightforward and should have worked perfectly -- except it didn't. It caused Thunderbird to hang. Force-closing Thunderbird & relaunching failed. Force-closing then restarting the computer & relaunching failed. Force-closing then doing a cold boot & relaunching failed. Force-closing then relaunching in SAFE MODE (thank you, KB!) got Thunderbird running again. Disabling Lightning and restarting in normal mode showed Lightning to definitely be the culprit. I removed Lightning & relaunched Thunderbird in normal mode and all was happy. Then I re-installed Lightning and restarted Thunderbird at which point Thunderbird hung -- again.

So I am thinking there must be something in the .ics file that is messed up (it's only 248 kb) or something fouled in a cache file that Lightning left behind.

Any help and/or ideas will be gladly appreciated.

UPDATE 15:09

So I've got Thunderbird working, but Lightning continues to be a problem. I thought the issue was the add-on Lightning extension, but now I know it isn't; it's the built-in Lightning. When I go through the steps here (Calendar Updates Issues Thunderbird) Lightning is there as it's always been, and hangs just like it did when I first tried to import the .ics file.

I did find a temp cache folder at C:\Users\myprofile\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\nwipuw2i.default-release\cache2\entries which has 20,976 files of varying sizes, but I dare not delete anything unless I know what is safe and what is not.

My only work-around right now is to disable Lightning.

I recently updated to TB 68.3.1 and lost my calendar data. I tried the recommended fix at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird#w_lightning-disappears-after-a-thunderbird-update-release-and-beta-versions The link said that Lightning would be back after the reboot but it wasn't and I had to go to add-ons and reselect it. Still no data. I'm running Win 7 Pro with the files residing on a networked drive. I have a complete backup of all files but don't know which ones to restore or if that will even work. This is a business with 3 PCs accessing TB, two of which had Lightning enabled. Mine is the only one where it is critical that I retrieve the data. TB is working fine so only need to retrieve calendar data. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a working Lightning calendat which is sync'd with an Exchange account using TbSync. The calendar contains events before July 2018, but those do not show up in Lightning. The events are certainly there as can be confirmed by viewing and searching the calendar with Outlook and/or iPhone. Is there an option in Lightning or TbSync to set the period for sync'ing past events which I could possibly adjust to "all"?

Thanks for advice.

Since a while my TB only runs in safe mode or with Lightning disabled.

Otherwise I get loads of "unresponsive script" messages concerning:

Script: chrome://calendar/content/calendar-task-tree.xml:1010 Script: chrome://calendar/content/widgets/minimonth.xml:531 Script: chrome://calendar/content/widgets/minimonth.xml:547 Script: resource://calendar/modules/utils/calUnifinderUtils.jsm:111 Script: chrome://calendar/content/calFilter.js:728 Script: chrome://calendar/content/calendar-ui-utils.js:89

neither continuing nor stopping the script helps.

I'm running on Linux Mint 18.1 64bit; TB 60.4.0

I do not even miss my calendar so much on my computer, but unfortunately somehow surprisingly it also means that my contacts are not synchronized anymore. I don't know why the disabled Lightning also stop the functioning of the SOGoConnector.

Happy about any advice! Thank you very much! Rouven

After upgrading to thunderbird 60.0 I have the following problem: In reminder window the arrows for increasing or decreasing the value for "remind me later" are no longer working. If pointing to the arrows, the cursor changes to a "writing mark". Click on the arrows makes nothing. It is still possible, to delete the preset value and to enter a new value or to select a value from the list.

Calendar has been a visible part of email screen. Today only email appears. No Task or event and no list of next 5 days events. I am not aware of doing anything to hide or remove the calendar. Showed this morning but not when I opened system this afternoon. I looked at calendar items but creating anew calendar requested action from left column on screen, only bookmark items listed.

I had a 4-days a week recurrent event over multiple months entered on my PC (see screen shot) which sync'd perfectly from my W-10 PC to my Galaxy S7 Android. Then I realized a week or so later that the future events were missing from the S7. They remained correctly entered on my PC.

To "fix" it, from my PC, 1) First, I just tried Synchronizing. The missing recurrent events did not show up. 2) Then, I tried making an edit to the next, upcoming event in the series, selecting "Edit all occurrences," saved it, and then used the Synchronization button. The PC logged the change. Nothing appeared on the S7.

I could delete the recurrent event and re-enter it, but I'd rather get trouble-shooting input from your first.

I've used Thunderbird/Lightening now for several months -- and I REALLY like the app. I had used EssentialPIM for years and was reluctant to switch, but it was becoming unreliable. I'm glad I switched. I look forward to resolving this particular issue I'm having with the "disappeared" recurrent event.

Thank you, Gaye Lyn

I've already tried to reset the cache, didn't make a difference.

Using Thunderbird 57.7 (32-Bit) on Windows 10, with Lightning 5.4 and Inverse SoGo Connector 31.0. The calendar is hosted on a remote OpenXchange server. The same setup is working flawlessly on two other computers in the office, only the boss's setup is malfunctioning.

Thunderbird Lightning Calendar invitations won't deliver through smtp.frontier.com

Thunderbird 52.6.0 (32-bit) Enigmail version 2.1a1pre (20180315-2313) Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, v 1709, build 16299.309

1. Thunderbird Email messages deliver correctly through smtp.frontier.com using StartTLS encryption

2. Sent Lightning Calendar Invitations which used to work, now produce the error message "<UserHidden@hotmail.com>: host smtp.frontier.com[199.224.64.207] said: 554

5.7.1 <craig@myDomainHidden.com>: Sender address rejected: Access denied (in reply to MAIL FROM command)

3. Disabling and removing Enigma then restarting Thunderbird did not change Calendar Invite behavior, Calendar Invites still fail with the same smtp.frontier.com error message with Enigma disabled and removed.

Test environment; Send email/invitations from my own domain account which uses smtp.frontier.com for delivery, To: my gmail.com account. Login and encryption settings work for regular email over StartTLS encryption on port 587. Also tried SSL/TLS on port 465, which also works for email but not calendar invites.

I spent 1.5 hours with Frontier tech support trying to resolve this issue. Frontier Tech support says they use Yahoo.com for smtp.frontier.com email. They don't know how to resolve this issue. Regular Thunderbird email, with attachments does deliver through the smtp.frontier.com email system. Frontier support won't contact Yahoo for me, and all my attempts to contact Yahoo.com directly using my frontier.com email ID also fail. I am now contacting Mozilla Support for help.

I suspect the problem lies in one of two areas: 1. Mozilla Calendar Event Invitations use a different delivery system for calendar events than for regular email, which doesn't work with smtp.frontier.com. Email attachment of a calendar event does deliver through smtp.frontier.com (where calendar invitations fail 100%).

2. Yahoo has their front-end filtering set too strictly, not allowing calendar event invitations to be sent.

  1. 1-Only Mozilla Calendar Lightning developers can answer this issue.
  2. 2 I can't resolve myself, and will need Mozilla support to act as intermediary to Frontier/Yahoo.
