I've used TB successfully for many years to access several Yahoo and Googlemail accounts. Windows 10. Recently the Yahoo accounts don't work so I've tried several times deleting and reloading them. This may be a red herring but the trouble seemd to start when I installed TB on a new Windows 11 laptop and failed to load the Yahoo accounts. I've tried following both Mozilla and Yahoo help articles but ultimately success is partial at best (i.e. incoming works, outgoing fails) This is the sequence I have followed

251128 tried this: Deleted all yahoo accounts in Thunderbird

Edited outgoing yahoo server to

 smtp.mail.yahoo.com
 Port 465
 SSL/TLS
 Authentication method OAuth2
 User name johngherrett@yahoo.com

Added yahoo account johngherrett@yahoo.com name and email address

opens yahoo! login sequence enter email and yahoo account password - FAILS

logged out of Yahoo mail open elsewhere

Accept 'Configuration found in Mozilla ISPDB'

opens yahoo! login sequence enter email and yahoo account password - FAILS

Account Hub window 'Choose your email type' pick 'Edit configuration'

Changed Incoming server settings to: POP3 pop.mail.yahoo.com Port 993 SSL/TLS Auth method OAuth2 username = email address

Test

'Outgoing server settings' 'The following settings were found by probing the given server' SMTP smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port 465 SSL/TLS OAuth2

Continue

Authentication error 'Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.'

followed guidance from Mozilla article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-yahoo Exit Thunderbird Wait a few moments for background process to complete Start Thunderbird

counted to 10+

restarted Thunderbird Yahoo account is not there Googlemail account is there - OK

'Set up another account' - email started again Name & email

opens yahoo! login sequence enter email and yahoo account password - FAILS: 'Something went wrong' - not helpful 'Go to help' in Yahoo dialog opens another page in kanji(?) close this

back in TB Account Hub window 'Choose your email type' pick 'Edit configuration'

Changed Incoming server settings to: POP3 pop.mail.yahoo.com Port 993 SSL/TLS Auth method Normal password [changed] username = email address

Test

'Outgoing server settings' 'The following settings were found by probing the given server' SMTP smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port 465 SSL/TLS Auth method Normal password [changed]

Continue

'Creating account'

'Authentication error' as before

Go to https://help.yahoo.com/kb/sln27791.html Login to yahoo account 'Ways to securely access Yahoo Mail'

Use an app password ************

Signed out of a 'current sessions' even if not recognised. (Except 'current device' which is the login just past.

External connections-> Create app password App name : Thunderbird Generate

Copied to clipboard ********************

Returned to TB

entered password 'Continue' Spinning icon and re-opens yahoo login dialog entered normal password 'Something went wrong'

entered app password 'Something went wrong'

Despite this, after closing the yahoo dialog, TB says 'Account created successfully'!!!!

Inbox appears

Note:server settings now set somehow to IMAP / normal password

Testing outgoing: Message fails, Yahoo dialog login fails Edit outgoing server which remains OAuth2 Changed to normal password

Tried app password - failed Tried normal Yahoo password - failed

I have two accounts with Thunderbird (*@talktalk.net and *@tiscali.co.uk). Each account will receive incoming emails (with or without attachments - single addressee or part of a group email). Periodically outgoing emails are blocked, with the error message 'Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Reject for policy reason. Please check the message and try again.' Usually the issue seems to fix itself - this tome it has lasted longer than usual. Please can someone suggest a remedy? Tony

I must be doing something wrong. I am new to thunderbird, migrated from Eudora since I can't send mail with Eudora anymore.

I tried to configure Thunderbird as much as possible like Eudora, but ... it doesn't receive nor send mail. On the surface it looks fine, it seems thunderbird logs into the server, it seems it sends mail and checks for new mail, only I don't receive anything, nor send anything even though it looks it does. So what am I doing (or is going) wrong? (I can still receive mail with Eudora and today I checked and received 54 mails, none with Thunderbird)

Hello,

I imported my email accounts from Thunderbird for desktops into Thunderbird for Android. Everything works as expected with my own mail servers, i.e., I can send and receive emails. However, when I try to send an email to t-online.de, Thunderbird refuses to do so. The email remains in the outbox indefinitely, and then I receive an error message stating that the maximum number of retries has been reached. However, I do not receive an error message. The email simply remains in the outbox. I deleted the account and added it again, but the behavior remains the same.

What's strange is that it works without any problems with K9 Mail. Both sending and receiving emails works fine here. What could be the reason for this?

I am using the stable releases of Thunderbird 14.0 and K9 Mail 14.0.

At least once a day I'll get a popup message that says my Earthlink password has failed and gives the option to Retry or Cancel. If I press Retry, the password works and I can download my email but the email alert sound keeps playing over and over until I have to shut down Thunderbird and relaunch it to stop it from doing that. I've had to disable incoming mail alerts. I've checked my email settings with Earthlink and they're all correct. I'm currently using version 128.12.0esr (64-bit) on Ubuntu but this has happened on multiple versions over the last few years.

Hello Everyone,

Background: Using Thunderbird for almost an year and extremely happy with the product set. I use it to access GMAIL via POP and use the settings "After the email gets downloaded to my computer, delete the GMAIL copy" (Settings attached).

My usage pattern which changed recently: Earlier, I will always download emails using Thunderbird every day and it was working perfectly. Recently I have to travel for few days and during those days I will access my GMAIL via my android mobile primarily and I download all the emails after my return.

Current Issue: Now after I return, all the mails gets downloaded, but it does not get deleted at GMail side (online). From the time I started using Thunderbird after my return, the newer emails from that time are getting downloaded and deleted but the old emails stay in GMail. Current inconvenience is it takes time to validate if all the important emails are downloaded and I cleanup the GMAIL manually and then we are all in sync. This continues until my next travel. I tried resetting the GMAIL POP settings and there is no improvement.

Any pointers or suggestions to resolve will be gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thamkyou. A year ago after decades of thunderbird, I was required to sign into email everytime I went to or back to email. I tried to find answers online and w/ISP. ISP said it was email problem. 2. Every year or 2, my email stops. When I call, the say it is thunderbird until I ask to verify ports. They come up with different ports. They say I need to use map instead of pop. I used pop as they first stated to use and then they wanted me to use imap. After trying ports they choose, it was ok for a while. I started out w/ assurance, name change to domain.com, then web.com and now NS. They could not find my email in th past and then stated it was on a different server. Which I think means there was a missing link. I am a user, not a programmer. I created 450 web pages with DW and was amazed they all passed online, still do. Now, with NS, email is stopped. They want me to use web mail and I do no. They stated to use outlook. I prefer thunderbird because I was told decades ago that thunderbird and Netscape were the best because they keep it simple W/O excessive links cluttering up the home. So, now my email shows that there is email commit I need the trailer on bottom of page but it does not show up. So, I did get a message earlier Wed that thunderbird rejected "imap". ISP said not their problem. I am 83, disabled vet and have tried evey combination of ports, pop, imap for days and hours with no avail. So you are right. I am an idiot. My bank, cell phone co,, utilities and others recognize me by my email. I have many directories of frequent contacts from people I have deal with. I also save trash because it is a source of records. When it works, it is great.

Yesterday I opened Thunderbird to find that it was trying to download 8205 emails. 15 emails actually downloaded, there were no messages in SPAM folder. The notification at the lower right showed 300 more had 'downloaded' before I shut off the internet, went into Safe Mode, ran a virus check to find no threats found. No SPAM was recorded in Thunderbird when I went back online. There were, however, several files with large attachments so I don't know if this is a glitch regarding data vs. actual number emails because when I checked for updates (see attachment)

I discovered that since Version 115.4.2 I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF UPDATES OR *FAILURE* TO UPDATE. AUTOMATIC UPDATES have been turned off and will remain turned off due to nearly dialup speed lack of bandwidth. I will abandon Thunderbird for having a fatal programming defect before turning on automatic updates.

My actual email provider did not show 8205 additional emails so I am concerned about a possible malware backdoor. Today 15 emails downloaded while the little notice at lower right said it was trying to download 113 ghost emails. I shut off Thunderbird and came here to post the problem. I will update Thunderbird, but need to know if there is a temporary file cache or some other hideyhole that the ghosts (or some attacker) might be storing godnosewhat so that I can either quarantine or delete them?

I cannot send emails and always get the same error message, no matter what steps I have taken. This has been the situation for nearly 48 hours. During this time I have undertaken the following steps, as advised by Thunderbird (TB)/ Optus and Google (not in order).

Checked SMTP server settings (many times), Re-booted the Router, Uninstalled and reinstalled TB, Changed the number of Server Connections to Cache from 5, down to 1 (as suggested by the TB Notification), Tried sending a test message to my other email address on several occasions, but got the same error message. I have checked my Webmail account and can send and receive from and to my email accounts from within webmail.

As required in the TB help file, The following information is provided: SMTP settings (attached). Mail Provider is Optusnet. ISP is Firefox. Antivirus is Trend Micro Maximum Security Version 17.9. OS (details attached).

If I have neglected any required info please ask. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Flin

"And you, sir, are an idiot. Accusing Mozilla of racketeering because they provide a free product and ask for donations is beyond belief. If your email is not working, there is something not set right. This forum is a volunteer-staffed user support forum, financed by Thunderbird. We routinely discover 'correct' settings that are not, or passwords that are wrong; that is where we assist. David (thunderbird)"

I have been using thunderbird since the 90's and have rarely had problems like this. Myself and my provider have spent much time verifying the settings. The messages are thunderbird is rejecting imap and I need to sign in every time I send an email or receive. I never had to do this and never go these messages before beginning about a year ago. After time with question on "ask", no answer resolved the question. I still have to email and the provider states to call thunderbird which has been imposible. This is a first in at attempt of customer service. Thanks for your kindness, my provider says they cannot make the email work and that it is thunderbirds program to contact them. I have contributed in the past and today but it is a dead end. Rich
