Sometimes when I want to send an email, the spelling checker (British English 1.19.1) comes up with blank boxes. If I check the add-ons, it says that it is incompatible with Thunderbird 24.3.0. If I then check for updates to the spelling checker, it immediately changes to saying that it will work after a restart. That resolves the problem for a while but it can recur a few days later and I have to go through the whole process again.

I'm writing a bootstrap Add-On for Thunderbird 24.3.0 on a Ubuntu 13.10 computer.

When trying to execute the following code snippet (taken for Mozilla Developer Network)

    var req = new XMLHttpRequest();
    req.open('GET', 'http://www.mozilla.org/', false); 
    req.send(null);
    if(req.status == 200)
        dump(req.responseText);

I get "ReferenceError: XMLHttpRequest is not defined" on the Error Console when trying to create the object.

This problem looks very similar to Firefox's:

Top menu (minimize/maximize/close buttons) is missing

In the main Inbox view of Thunderbird, everything above the tabs is missing. It is transparent, but the area is still part of the Thunderbird window and clicking it keeps the focus in that window. I am running 24.3.0. I have encountered two possible fixes for this (one was related to themes, but I'm using the original theme, the other was to hit toggle fullscreen - in my case, F11 appears to be disabled or broken), but haven't been able to solve the problem. I am running Windows 7 Pro SP1, x64

I was writing an e-mail and had just spell checked. Thunderbird crashed. When it came back up, the send icon is greyed out (as well as the spell check. I ran through all the help suggestions (including the profile removal). The computer I am having trouble with is Lion 10.7.5. I have it also on 10.6.8 (snow leopard). I am about to give up and start using this computer (10.8.5) for mail - pain in the ..... to have to move everything!

Cannot access 2 of 3 email address lists. Why?

This just occurred. The same address list comes up with all 3 email addresses I have . Even when I exit & turn off my computer & go back to email I still cannot get to my 2 other address lists. For example: When in email 1, or 2, , email 3's address is shown. I email 3 it is okay. Also, I have to use tools to get the address list and it fills the screen - so I cannot click to get the address onto my email address line because my email is covered by the address screen. Frustrating. Previously I could go to "contacts" which is now gone, and click. The address list would come up & I could drag the address to my email. Now I cannot do that. So I cannot access 2 of 3 email address lists, cannot click on an address to put on my email to send. So how do I fix this.? I have 100's of email addresses I access. I am NOT a computer wiz so please help and if you can, please make it simple as you can! Thanks, Gail

When I delete an email it takes about 10 seconds to respond before its deleted. This just started happening. When I deleted before this started, it would be an instant delete. All other functions on Thunderbird seem to be working OK.

I started getting this alert after a restart last Saturday (2-22-2014) and Thunderbird freezes before it is fully operational: (incorrect application behavior?)

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

I have over 500 GB free on the hard disk and have checked the directory TTBOMA. As recently as this morning I again uninstalled TB using the TB uninstall utility, rebooted and reinstalled from the Mozilla website. Nada,

When I start a new e-mail, the address list that shows on the left is now "Collected Addresses" instead of the Personal Address Book it always used to be. I can change from Collected Addresses to Personal Address Book but it always goes back to "Collected..." when I start a new msg. What caused this? How can I go back to the way it used to be?

I'm using profiles, multiple profiles after getting new PCs . Each profile has multiple accounts ( same accounts) but different date ranges. I'm trying to organize emails by which pc was most in use during a particular timeframe. so I have 3 profiles and they seem to be working OK. But I only started the old ones up and saw that it was working but getting new mail - I don't want new mail in the old accounts/profiles. They're just there to give some historical help if I need old info. My new profile is getting new mail OK.

can I block the old thunderbird profiles from getting new mail? How? I would like to block them without having to "use"/open them so the mail collection process doesn't clutter them up with new mail.

I need to regularly send some text to a particular recipient with only the day and date being different on each occasion.

I noticed after updating to V24.1.1 that this was occurring as the text would disappear just as the email was being sent. After checking my "sent" folder I found that the email was a blank page. Conformation from the recipient showed they had received a blank email.

Another (annoying) thing that is now happening is when typing, the cursor will often jump to the top left hand corner of the page and continue replicating the words being typed.

This does not occur in any other app that requires typing, ie MS Word 2013, Wordpad or Notepad .

Any ideas as to why.
