I am having trouble getting Java to work in Firefox (Opera too) on Mac. http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre tells me "We are unable to verify if Java is currently installed and enabled in your browser." Notice that when I access the page, Firefox wants me to activate Java in a pop-up. I did this.

I know that Java is installed because I can open the Java Control Panel. The setting "Enable Java content in the browser" is checked and Security Level is set to High. I have tried setting the security level to a lower setting, but that doesn't help.

I have verified that the Java plugin is enabled. I have tried clearing Java cache via the control panel - no luck.

I realise that Apple has blocked Java according to this article: http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/01/31/apple-again-blocks-latest-version-of-java-through-os-x-anti-malware-system. I have been able to get Java to work with Safari (this doesn't help for Firefox) by editing the file /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist, but that is only a temporary solution, as it shouldn't be necessary to do this edit.

Firefox became really slow lately and taking over CPU and RAM!! Mac Lion OS X 10.8.2 Firefox 16.0.1

so I noticed lately (the past ~5 weeks) that Firefox runs REALLY REALLY slow. I usually have 3 windows open all the time (one with about 7-8 tabs and the other two with 5-6 tabs, total of 20, maybe 25 tabs at some point but ends up going back to about 20 tabs at the end of the day)

it was fine for the past 2 years never had a problem. usually it takes about a week (or longer sometimes) before I need to restart my laptop to clear up some memory. but now I cant do it at all. as soon as I open firefox I will notice my laptop gets slower and slower and the fans comes on and laptop gets hot fast. CPU usage for firefox is high same with Ram.

here is what I did to try and solve the problem. I first updates all the add ons, didnt do anything. cleared the cash,,, nothing. disabled the add-ons. it helped but still wasn't fast enough. so I reset firefox and had all the add ons removed. still same thing. I deletet firefox and reinstalled it... still same problem. to confirm that my laptop is good enough to run those many tabs I downloaded google chrome to test it and I had three windows with a total of like 34 tabs (yes 34) and it was running fine. actually I think from now on I will be using chrome and not even go back to firefox due to how fast it was!! and its using 30% less of the memory too!!

I have been using Firefox since 08 and it was the best browser I have ever used and never looked at any other one. but I downloaded chrome to check and see if my laptop was the problem but now I know its the browser. I noticed that this problem only started when this update came on few weeks ago (not sure which one because in the past 5-6 weeks I kept getting those updates. I think I did at least 3 updates if not even more) but I am sure it was one of the 15.X updates. now I am running the latest update which seems like its even worse.

any help would be appreciate it. I am still trying to make this browser work but if this problem keeps going on then I guess I have no choice but to move on to a different one. I miss some of the features that firefox have over chrome.

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro. OS X 10.8.2, 320GB (with has about 72GB of free space), 8GB ram, 2.66GHz intel core 2 duo, running latest updates on everything and running Lion with the latest update too.

tried to search but kept geting those old thread and its locked now so cant post in it.

Thanks

Ok. So I have been reading and reading on here. There is a website that autocompeltes in my awesome bar. It will NOT GO AWAY no matter how many times I clear ALL history, delete ALL cookies, etc. There is no bookmark saved with said website. (www.axlscloset.com).

The moment I type the letter "a" in my awesome bat, FF suggests www.axlscloset.com. I have also tried the SHIFT + DELETE on my mac. It is absolutely driving me crazy. What can I do short of resetting FF?

To update, this is happening with all letters of the keyboard. For example, "w" yield www.whitehouse.gov even though I have not visited it in months. "C" yield cbsnews.com.

Again, please note no bookmarks or the like are saved. All history and cookies have been cleared.

Thanks in advance.

I have a MacBook Pro. OS X 10.8.4

After I open Firefox and type a website to navigate to, it initially opens the page but then immediately redirects to another page. Sometimes it redirects to Lycos.com, or another random advertisement page. Other times it redirects to an all grey page with a notice saying my Java is out of date, which it is not, as I have made sure through my software update. Along with this problem, there is a portion of the browser (lower left hand corner) that seems to be blocked by an invisible object. I say an invisible object because the cursor changes to a finger cursor as if there is a link or click-able ad, however I have tried clicking the area and nothing happens, not even when right clicking.

I really love Firefox and prefer using it over Safari but these issues have really tainted my experience with the browser.

Somebody please help!!!!

I use several games that work with java and just recently, none of them work. When I try to search for java in the plug-in section of add-ons, it doesn't show up. When I try installing the update on the java page (numerous times), it still doesn't show up even after restarting firefox / rebooting computer. I tried uninstalling the Java 7 as recommended in one article but because I have a mac, a java 6 download isn't available from the java website. Please help me.

This has happened three times in the past two months, twice when I was opening a new tab and once when I was refreshing a tab. Firefox freezes (spinning wheel), and won't force quit when I try from the dock or from the Force Quit menu or the Activity Monitor, and it will actually freeze the Force Quit Menu and Activity Monitor as well, as well as any other program I try to quit or force quit at the time. I tried to open Terminal to kill the process, but although it's able to open up, it wouldn't give me the command line.

To clarify: I can open other programs during this time but they vary in responsiveness. I played around the third time this happened; I wanted to see if I could wait it out, because Firefox did automatically quit after two minutes or so the second time this happened, but no such luck the first or third time. I ended up having to force shut down (shut down by menu would not work).
