I recently updated Thunderbird today and although it restarted fine after hitting the "restart to install" (or similar button) in the "about" popup on osx 10.15.7 (latest Catalina version). After I restarted the computer, Thunderbird no longer starts up properly - no error message, nothing.

I even tried to invoke at the commandline in normal and safe mode and the response is "Killed: 9" :

$ /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin Killed: 9

$ /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -safe-mode Killed: 9

I've tried removing the .parentlock file from the profile directory located at ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/[default profile name].default/.parentlock but it doesn't help, just gives same "Killed: 9" message at the command prompt.

Please help, I need to access my email.

Full version info: $ /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin --full-version

Thunderbird 78.5.1 20201130232704 20201130232704

Hi!

I've been using gmail via imap in Thunderbird for a 10+ years, several years ago I had to add "application password" just for Thunderbird because it doesn't support 2FA.

It all worked well until 20th of November - new mail did not come in. Even though, the status bar on the bottom says "connected to imap.gmail.com".

I figured, that some refreshing is needed, so I went to tools -> options -> security and I removed all saved passwords. The status bar still says "connected to imap.gmail.com".

I removed the "application password" using google panel and created a new one - unfortunately, Thunderbird did not ask for a new password. Still claims "connect to imap.gmail.com".

I changed the server address, so "anotheraddress" - and it kept saying "connected to anotheraddress"

My mailbox and accounts settings go way back, at least 2009 (that's the oldest file on my hdd in the mail folder with all the accounts).

I have several GB of data there, one of the accounts has over 30k messages.

I'm using "mbox as file" option and it's saved on NTFS partition (the filesystem was an issue back in a day, with 4GB limit of FAT).

When I double-click on the status bar to see the activity monitor, it's empty.

The account settings are set to imap.gmail.com, port 993, user is my full gmail address, SSL/TLS, "Regular password".

I tried to enable some more imap logs by starting thunderbird with some env vars set: set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:4 set NSPR_LOG_FILE=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\tbird_log.txt start thunderbird

the tbird_log.txt file has not been created.

I would prefer NOT to start from scratch - I have multiple mail folders, multiple accounts - some of the messages are on the IMAP servers, some are not.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

The top of the Firefox screen disappears including the Menu, URL and the Bookmark bars, and is covered by a white un-clickable area. If Outlook is the window below Firefox and the location where the close "X" in Firefox is clicked, Outlook will close.

The solution discovered is to reboot Windows. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox with a new downloaded version, and running sfc /scannow, but these were not successful. A few times, the same problem was seen in Chrome and it may be a Windows issue and not a Firefox bug. The problem is typically seen once or twice a day. It is not a problem that turning off full-screen will solve.

One post with this problem was found on a search from 2017 but the thread was closed.

Any suggestions for a permanent fix would be most welcome.

Suddenly thunderbird won't access emails. Address is sbcglobal.net, which arrives through yahoo. "Get messages" button gives me the following: "sending of password for user (my email address) did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: server error - Please try again later".

For outbound mail get message: "login to server smtp.att.yahoo.com with username (xxxx@sbcglobal.net failed" with the option of entering a new password.

I'm using the correct password, and am able to access my email directly from yahoo with that password.

Thunderbird updated to version 78.5 just before the problem started. I deleted 78.5 but could not figure out how to install the previously working version, 78.4.3, so added 78.5 back again.

I read that there can be a problem if the provider doesn't use TLS 1.2. As far as I can tell, that shouldn't be the problem with yahoo.

I suspect possible problem with free version of avast, but I have been using this for several years with no problem.

Incoming server setting is pop.att.yahoo.com, port 995 Outgoing is smtp.att.yahoo.com port 465

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-yahoo#w_my-sign-in-attempt-was-prevented tells me to set security to "Oauth2", but that is not an option in the settings menu.

Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you.

Thunderbird 78.5.0 on Windows 10 desktop.

My primary (comcast) email account stopped updating 2 days ago. None of my settings were changed. I just spent WAY too long chatting with comcast, so I know everything is as OK as can be on that side. I have several other email accounts on a web server that are all fine.

I have deleted the saved password for the primary account, hoping it would connect and prompt me for my password, just in case that was the cause of the problem.

I'm stumped. Would appreciate any pointers, as I have checked and re-checked settings.

Hi all,

I've been having problems with firefox lagging constantly. General browsing around feels laggy - and opening new tabs pretty much causes my computer to freeze for a few seconds. During this time firefox causes the CPU to spike to 100% usage.

I've been using firefox for years on this computer with no issues. Hardware is pretty good (i7 5820k, 64GB of ram and an SSD).

So far I have tried:

  • Running in safe mode
  • Using a different profile
  • Downgrading to an older firefox
  • Changing allowed CPU cores from 8, to 4
  • Updated graphic card drivers to latest version

None of these work, and I'm getting a bit tired of the constant slow downs. Chrome works flawlessly, as does all my other software...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thunderbird suddenly stopped receiving e-mails from my account at att.net - It received a morning group of e-mails and then stopped with no upgrades or anything in between - I can access everything fine at the mail.yahoo server

Thunderbird at lower left corner says "connected to inbound.att.net" but it does nothing more; does not appear to get to the step of requesting password - I tried to change the TLS min setting from 3 to 1 and no effect; no problem sending e-mails from Thunderbird

Any assistance would be much appreciated

Many Thanks,

Up to 12/2/2020 I have used Thunderbird successfully for several years. Sometime between 12/2 and 12/3 Thunderbird stopped refreshing my inbox. It may have been coincidental with my being asked by Thunderbird to run a compact operation on my mail folders to save space. I allowed the compact operation to run and it seems since then I can't get mail. I'm running version 78.5.1. My email is a Roadrunner account.

I tried several things. In case the problem was not related to Thunderbird. I used Microsoft mail to read my emails and the latest emails were shown in the in box. I also installed Mailbird to see if it could read the in box and it also worked correctly. I uninstalled Thunderbird and then re-installed it but again it was unable to refresh the inbox.

There are no error messages displayed. The cursor becomes a circular busy icon if I touch the in box and remains that way until I end Thunderbird.

Any suggestions to correct the problem will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Basically all included in the title - Gmail account on Thunderbird stopped working - gets stuck on "Connected to imap.gmail.com".

I tried to remove this account from saved passwords (it was helping in the past). I reinstalled Thunderbird. I removed this account and recreated it again.

When I create account it does not accept the password - but it does not matter, since OAuth2 should appear new window to type in credentials. I does not appear. When I click to download messages on the bottom bar I have info: "Connected to imap.gmail.com...". And it stays that way.

I also allowed less secured apps to use google account (probably unnecessary since Thunderbird works well on my secondary laptop).

Can you advise me what else can I do?

***************************** The problem When I start firefox I see a blank page (this was not my starting page before the problem occured)(Image linked).

The overall graphical window is not frozen but I can't open any webpage nor any local file. The option pages don't work either nor any of the about:XXX pages.

*************************** What I tired I cleared my cookie/cache. I tried firefox's safe mode. I refreshed firefox. I deleted my profile and created a new profile. I desactivated all my security software. I ran firefox with root privilege. Updated windows. None of that did solved the problem.

This problem persisted after I haved uninstalled Firefox, deleted my profile, deleted all mozilla directories in ProgramData, AppData, Program, cleaned up my disk with window's 10 utilitary and reinstalled firefox (I also tried a simple install unistall so I don't think I broke firefox by deleting files). When reinstalling firefox I tried both a 64 and a 32 bits install with current and older version none worked.

I scanned my PC for malwares, nothing found. I checked my memory as suggested in a troobleshooting page, (no problem found).

Firefox DOES WORKS in window's safe mode.

************************************ Observations I noticed via my firewall that firefox don't even send any package to the internet if I try to acess a website. Firefox does however acces 127.0.0.1 (at least it asks for permission). Firefox doesn't close if I use top right red cross, it does close if, in task bar I right click/close all windows or if I exit within the "three horizontal bar menu" I precise that my connection is ok and that MS Edge is working fine.

I repeat, Firefox works in window's safe mode.

I would really appreciate your help as I can't find any other thing to try.

Question inappropriately asked in Foxfire beta. Sorry for the duplicate

Updated an old version of foxfire to the new 83.1.0 (Build #2015776401) version. And now I can't upload any images from my device:

Coolpad 3310A Android 8.1.0

Would upload an image, yet the "Add images (optional)" "Browse" button on here doesn't work.

Is there something I am not understanding here to get it to work?

Have cleared everything and force stopped then restarted.

Browse button does work on new version of Dolphin browser.

I checked all the setting I could find and it turned out that IMAP was disabled in Gmail. I never disabled it myself but I enabled it again. However this does not solve the problem. I have checked the server setting in TB and server name, port (993) and security (SSL) setting seem OK I don't know what to do anymore, can somebody help ? Thanks in advance
