Hello, I recently moved to Firefox from another browser and I am very pleased with it. My usage is that my computer remains on 24/7 with the browser open. I saw a paragraph in the help docs:

"Firefox's memory usage may increase if it's left open for long periods of time. A workaround for this is to periodically restart Firefox."

However this can be inconvenient when you have several tabs open that are logged in to various sites for work, which also retain state which is not restored when the browser is restarted.

Over a few days the memory "leaking" (?) is mounting up significantly as per attached. In summary:

Pre close - system RAM usage 12.5GB Post close browser - system RAM usage 8.1GB (4.4GB drop!!) Re-open browser with same tabs - system RAM usage 8.7GB (actually 9.0GB after all tab views were accessed and put back into the state they were in before closed)

From this simple test I can see that 12.5GB - 9GB = 3.5GB was hogged by the browser and not actually required.

As a developer I am interested to understand the reason for this memory leaking. Is there anything I can do while the browser is open to free it up? Or cause it to not "leak" in the first place?

Thanks,

Andrew

We use IBM's iNotes product for internal e-mail. Within approximately the last eight weeks we've been encountering random carriage returns added to the messages we send when auto spell check is enabled. If we disable auto spell check or use a different browser (Google Chrome and Apple Safari was tested) the problem disappears. The problem seems to disappear for a short time if we clear the Firefox cache.

I've been working with IBM support regarding this problem and they're convinced the problem is related to Firefox. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Thanks, Bob

Under privacy and security - forms and passwords - I have checked "Ask to save logins and passwords" - Many times - when visiting a new site - the dropdown that asks if I want to save - does not appear - and/or - the login is there - but the password is not saved. "Password Editor" in add-ons is not compatible with my version of Firefox - Without going crazy - there should be a way - under this setting - "privacy and security" - to Manually add a web-site with login/password. And if not - why not?

I am losing all of my new bookmarks with no crash. I usually save all of mine to folders on the Bookmarks Toolbar. I lost individual links and sub-folders containing links under multiple folders on this toolbar. Unfortunately my last manual backup is about a week ago. All of those bookmarks from the backup are still there.

I wish Mozilla would at least create an "automatic" bookmark backup feature if this is going to happen.

I'm unable to log in to my mozilla account to enable firefox account sync.

WHAT HAPPENS: 1. select firefox account log in option in firefox browser 2. enter username and password 3. the following page states that I will receive an authentication/verification code in my email 4. I receive the verification code in my email 5. I enter the code on the original prompt 6. I receive an error stating my "password" is incorrect.

Note: on step #2, if I intentionally enter the wrong password, the browser will immediately skip to #6.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: 1. system should be sending verification numbers that work.

I reinstalled the browser and I'm still unable to log in to my firefox account.

I use Firefox on Windows and Firefox tries to use too much of my system's RAM. I know this is for performance reasons BUT there is very little performance gain. This behavior is fine for users who only run Firefox and little else. BUT I use other memory intensive apps not only Firefox so Firefox using up lots of my RAM is very bad for my use case.

On a system with lots of RAM when I use gmail and Facebook on Firefox the firefox processes can bloat to more than 2.5GB! And it actually seems to start getting slower at that point.

But if I run Firefox in a Windows Virtual Machine with only 1.5GB RAM and start using gmail and Facebook a lot the largest firefox process only gets to a max of 750MB. So that is proof that Firefox can actually work with less RAM without crashing.

How can I get Firefox to behave as if the system has less RAM (e.g. just set a max RAM limit) without to resorting to running it in a VM? I have tried stuff like Process Governor but Firefox tends to crash when it hits the limit instead of running the GC. In contrast on a virtual machine with less RAM Firefox doesn't seem to crash and just uses less RAM.

Is there also a way to get Firefox to automatically do what the about:memory "Minimize memory usage" button does, when it starts to go past a memory usage threshold?

I had to make a new support.mozilla.org account because I can't get into my old one. I'm not sure if I'm remembering my username right, and I don't remember my password (and it seems it wasn't saved in my saved logins). I've tried sending reset e-mails to all the e-mail addresses I might have used for the account, multiple times, but none of them have received anything. I've checked the spam folders, and I don't have issues receiving other types of Firefox e-mails.

Though YouTube videos play well, every 10-30 seconds or so, there's a frame or two where it goes back a quarter to half of a second. I've tried using the h246ify plugin addon, but it changed nothing. I see problems with video and audio playback are quite common in Firefox, but I haven't seen too many in Quantum (especially something so little as a random stutter). Any help is greatly appreciated, though it's not a very game-breaking problem (I've had this issue since Quantum came out and I installed Windows).

Windows 7, 64-bit. Firefox 62.0.3 (64-bit) Noticed today that my bookmarks are gone. Went through many support pages trying to get them back. The bookmarks restore dialog shows I have a variety of backups, each claimed to be containing ~4500 bookmarks, which sounds about right. Restoring one of them produces no errors, but nothing seems to happen -- my bookmarks are still all gone. Did the "verify" on the Troubleshooting page, didn't see any complaints. Did a backup to a .json file and, wow, that's impressive -- never seen Gnu Emacs lock up trying to load a file before; did they really elect to put no newlines in there?

Finally, I am desperate enough to post for help. :-)

another 'let's develop something for the sake of developing' update that nobody seems to have asked for.

what is the point of seeing a screengrab of the page you are bookmarking?

and then - in case you forgot what you just did a second a go - you are reminded that it was 'saved to Library!' oh yeah? do you take your users for idiots?

how do I disable or remove these annoyances.
