Firefox won't open. Uninstalled & removed folder. New installation suspends.

Firefox won't open. I have rebooted to no avail. I have killed it in Task Manager, uninstalled it, deleted the folder and tried to reinstall. At about 70% of the way thro… (read more)

Firefox won't open. I have rebooted to no avail. I have killed it in Task Manager, uninstalled it, deleted the folder and tried to reinstall. At about 70% of the way through the installation, it pauses and there is a message saying that the installer is not responding. The installation panel then disappears. If I try to run it then, the behaviour is the same as it was to begin with, not opening but registering in the Task Manager.

addons.mozilla.org won't install add-ons, asks for a newer version of Firefox (it says I'm using 36.0), even though I have the latest version (59.0.2).

addons.mozilla.org won't install this add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/anonymox/?src=search), asks for a newer version of Firefox (it says I'm using 36.0), even though I have the latest version (59.0.2). Switching "privacy.resistFingerprinting" to "true" has no effect, except that addons.mozilla.org now sees it as 52.0 (I still need 56.0 or higher).

I keep turning on my computer to find Firefox & Thunderbird have changed. Today, Theme & Font Changer on Thunderbird stopped working, on 2 separate computers. I have slected "Never check for updates" on all programs to stop this very problem. Why is it happening & how can I stop it?

I copied my old profile into the profile folder of a new installation of Firefox. Removed the default. Firefox won't read my old profile. Every time I restart Firefox, it creates a new default profile. My old profile, of course, has all my old bookmarks, user names and passwords which I need. I need to get up and running.

Goodbye after 22 years of use starting with Netscape Navigator.

Your “nannyware” mindset, (“This Connection is Untrusted” and you cant change that) along with the internal data harvesting features, have cost me to much time and annex than I am willing to expend in the future.

Looks like Chromium is my new home.

For a while now my firefox browser has had some issues, Netflix will load onto the main homepage but it won't load fully, leaving icons rotating at the bottom and unable to click on a show or search for any - however loads fine on safari. It also won't let me buy things on amazon - it takes me to the checkout but then won't load when I click buy. Once again I am able to purchase on safari. However I am unable to use safari efficiently because it must have a virus as it gets tons of pop up ads that block the screen.

I've downloaded silverlight and tried following instructions on here, however it hasn't improved. I'm not techy at all so am struggling to understand what the problem is? I have Macbook pro which is nearly 3 years old.

As you may be aware, Webvisum is a Firefox extention which enables blind or visually impaired users to solve the Human Verrification like CAPTCHA on various websites. It has many more features to help these users and I one of them. Why Firefox has disabled the Webvisum extention? It shows Firefox couldn't verify the extention after installing or upgrading to a latest version of Firefox. That's why, we have forced to use a outdated version of browser as I'm using right now And, it is prone to viruses and worms. I hope I cleare from my side... Waiting for Reply...

When Firefox crashes, there are times when, on restart, there is no "restore session" option. It is greyed out in all places, and all of the previous tabs are lost. I save tabs across many months.

Previously, I have saved a recent sessionstore.js file from the profile. Then, when this occurs, I go to the profile, delete and replace the sessionstore.js file with the saved one, and have a reasonably recent recovery of the tabs.

In this version of Firefox, 36.0.1, there is no sessionstore.js file in the profile (see screenshot 1). So, where is it?

There is a new folder called session-store backups (see screenshot 2). Reasonably, I looked in there.

There is no sessionstore.js file in that folder. There are files called recovery.js and recovery.bak in that folder. Each is dated today--3/6/2015

Is the new idea that if Firefox crashes and the tabs are not recoverable, that you rename the the recovery.js file as sessionstore.js and put it in the profile?

Or is the sessionstore.js file now in a new location?

I would always like to have a recent backup of sessionstore.js, having learned from past crashes that this is a good idea!

As an extra bonus, I have also added a screenshot of the profile folder and location (screenshot 4).

Defining Colours using feColorMatrix settings in CSS

I use a few extensions that add their own toolbar button icons. These icons are multi-coloured and therefore they don't match the built in Firefox icons (which are all a dark indigo colour).

I the past, I have manually changed the toolbar icons for these extensions so that they all match. I did this by re-colouring the icons in Photoshop, and then unpacked the xpi file of the extension and replacing the original toolbar button image with my colour-corrected image,

This has been working great for me for many years, but it's a annoying to do for extensions that have new versions released regularly (because you have to keep manually replacing the icon after every new update).

Now that Firefox is switching to Signed / Validated extensions, this creates a bigger problem,. Manually updating icons inside the extension's xpi file will invalidate the signature, and while it is currently possible to work around this limitation (by setting about:config > using xpinstall.signatures.required to 'false') this option might not be available in future. I therefore wanted to find a different way of dealing with the icon colour issue.

After searching on the internet, I found a CSS script that uses "feColorMatrix" settings to colour all the default Firefox icons into various different pastel shades (https://userstyles.org/styles/101231/colorize-firefox-buttons).

I used a section of that CSS code and applied it to the icons that were added by my extensions, and it works perfectly! See the attached 'before and after' screenshot image.

However, my question relates to how to SPECIFY colours when using feColorMatrix settings. I've investigated online, but it's very complicated and I don't understand it. I was hoping to find a simple online tool where I could just enter an RGB or Hex colour values and have this converted into the required feColorMatrix values.

Does such a tool exist? and if not, what values should I use to get icons coloured to match the default built-in Firefox icons?

Here is an example of the CCS code that I used (this gives a purple / lilac shade):

Is it possible to inspect the Firefox browser GUI using the new built-in Developer Tools?

I used to be able to do this with the old DOM Inspector by selecting File > Select Chrome Document. I could then click through the list of DOM nodes and the corresponding part of the Firefox browser interface would light up (e.g. toolbar buttons etc.).

I cannot seem to find a way to do this with the new built-in Firefox Developer Tools. The inspector only seems to inspect web site page content, and not the Firefox browser itself.

Recently i was browsing the internet trying to research .. whilst this was happening there was a pop-up window for firefox saying that my player was outdated and needed to update the player immediately in order for me to continue to use the web page. I agreed and my anti-virus detected malware from the link i needed to accept .. therefore what are you guys doing .. trying to put malware on all the computers that people trust you to provide a search for ??? i believe plenty of people need to know about this as i was fortunate to have protection on my computer whereas other people will not be as lucky .. this problem needs to be rectified ASAP Thank you for your time in fixing this major problem Regards ConcernedFox

How to disable newtab page thumbnails such that it captures no data? No screenshots, no captions, no history, no data at all. Not disabling from view or not displaying them. No data capture at all.

Page thumbnails are a privacy even security issue - as helpful as they are or try to be - especially on shared devices.

If disabling is not possible, then how can this feature be removed altogether even in code.

Please don't offer options like using different accounts, different profiles, deleting history, using private mode, about:blank, about:home, newtab override addon, custom urls, toggling off enhanced mode in a newtab, using tor browser, using tails live cd, using docker containers, browser reset, different platforms, different devices, using older versions, etc

Just how to disable or remove page thumbnails so that it captures no data.
