Firefox fails to resolve local/VPN DNS

I am using Firefox on Linux (Ubuntu 20.10) to work from home over OpenVPN. Recently the VPN configuration was changed to use split tunneling to improve our internet connection. Since then I have had several DNS resolving issues in Firefox.

We use an on premise DNS server as an alternative to `localhost` domain names so we can access other developers' environments and so a few services can do the same. Our URL structure is like projectname.[optional personal identifier.]localhost.[type].nl. Without the [optional personal identifier], or when nothing is configured for it, the ip address is 127.0.0.1.

In Linux' OpenVPN configuration I have "Use this connection only for resource on its network" enabled for IPv4 and IPv6 is disabled (to benefit from split tunneling). With that enabled Firefox usually fails to resolve such development hostnames.

- As far as I know I do not have DoH enabled (and the about:networking log further down tells so too). - I do have `dnsmasq` enabled (with configuration for the above domain formats to route to 127.0.0.1 also) in an attempt to fix some issues before the split tunneling was configured correctly. And in an attempt to try and get Firefox to handle these DNS resolving issues. - `dig` on the command line for the same domain works just fine. - Adding hostnames to /etc/hosts works. But that's becoming a chore, working on dozens of projects over months.

Why is Firefox failing to resolve such domain names? Should I just create a Bugzilla issue?

After the last update to version 90.0, I can't continue to use firefox browser. The problem is about opening google sites (youtube, gmail). Other websites seems to work normal, but I can't open youtube and gmail now (google.com itself works heavily). When I type url and click enter, it takes so much time to load, often not loading the site or partially load. Other browsers installed on the same system works normally with the "problematic" websites. I tried hard reload (ctrl+f5), cleaning all browser data, and uninstalling and reinstalling. None of the mentioned actions helped. Please help me to identify and solve the issue.

Yesterday morning, I started receiving a "secure connection failed" message when trying to retrieve email from imap.gmail.com. I searched Mozilla Support and tried the following, which apparently worked for others:

"First, delete all entries in Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords. Press Alt if the Menu Bar with Tools is hidden, or click the 3-bar icon, Options/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords.

Next, use these settings for IMAP accounts: imap.gmail.com on port 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address. For POP accounts: pop.gmail.com on port 995, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address. For SMTP: smtp.gmail.com on port 465, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = email address.

After you've deleted the passwords, restart TB and enter the regular account password, not an app password, in the OAuth browser window when prompted."

It doesn't work for me...I keep getting error messages. Suggestions? Thanks!!

Since a couple of weeks my Firefox browser for Windows 10 64bit has issues. Last update 90.0.2 did not work either,and the issues is still there.

Internet is extremly slow,some sites will not open and i cant logg in to Facebook.

Under settings,i have tried different settings. Right now i have the standard setting. Under Help,i have tried to restore,diagnos and clean catch and restart,but it has not solved the issue.

What could be causing these issues? Do i have to do some special settings or do i have to add some Add-ons/Extensions in order to have Firefox work normal again?

I notice the icon is a local LAN shortcut, which currently not accessible. But should be no problem to remove, right?

According to the Distribution Policy for Mozilla Software found here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/foundation/trademarks/distribution-policy/ if you make any changes to Firefox you may not redistribute that with any Mozilla trademark.

Is there any way to remove the Mozilla logos and names from a custom installer to make it that you don't use any Mozilla trademark? Without this ability, it appears that it would not be permitted to redistribute your custom installer without seeking special permission from Mozilla which I can't imagine they want to give, am I right?

First of all excuse my English because it's not perfect. The problem came with the new version 90.0.1. There are some websites I visit every day, and after installing new version of FF I noticed that the fonts used in websites are different than it was before. Some websites are breaking apart and doesn't look like they did before, and like they look in other major browsers right now.

I went to the Settings option and saw that my FF is set to show Times New Roman 16 as default font, but if I go to Advanced I can see that the checkbox on Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above option is ON. So websites should be shown not by default font, but the font used in websites. But if I turn that option OFF, than I can see websites like it should be, like it was before new version, and like it's shown in other major browsers. But it gives me wrong look (font) with some other websites, so it's not the permanent solution. I guess it's some kind of problem with new version of FF.

Note: Same thing happend a couple of weeks or months ago with one of previous FF versions, but that was fixed just day or two later with another new version. It looks like we have simmilar problem right now.

Thanx in advance for any help, and I hope somebody will fix that soon. I am lifelong user of FF browser because it's my favourite and the best, but that kind of problem can be pretty big for someone who is very often online and who is working in developing websites sometimes.

I have a small problem.

My home server was killed by a flood, so I lost my password manager (2FA & recovery code). The geo backup was unfortunately a bit older and does not contain the data for my Mozilla account. This has now locked me out of my account, but I still want to delete it. I have read the article (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-if-im-locked-out-two-step-authentication), but I still have the right to delete my account and have my data deleted.

Hi! I am trying to use the Multi-Account Containers add-on in conjunction with Facebook Container and Temporary Containers add-ons.

I have DuckDuckGo set as my default search engine, and Homepage and New Tabs and Windows set to Firefox Home.

Firefox Home has no domain in the address bar, which is presumably why it is always opened in a temporary container.

I am not sure I understand the best practice to use them after reading a LOT on various sites. Aside from the default containers, I have set up specific containers, depicted in the attached image, for: -Privacy Expected (Firefox, DDG, etc). -Often used and generally trusted (labelled Suppliers, Sites I like). -General sites which I expect to visit again, and I've managed cookie settings I don't want to do again each visit due to Temporary Containers add-on deleting their cookies. -Yuk Sites I expect to track me can go in a container (again, only adding to a container so I don't have to manage their cookies each visit). -worst offenders have their own containers (Google, Microsoft, etc)

Still trying to get my head around how to set permission for add-on Read Aloud to use Google Wavenet voices, and have that permission (and "I am not a robot" Captcha) seen across non-Google pages I want to be able to be read aloud (maybe have to add that 1 page for Google Wavenet voices to an exception in Temp containers or no cointainer but at the extent of my ability to make sense of all this).

I can copy stuff, i can paste it anywhere else but not in the edit windows. The forum sems not to see there is anything in the clipboard. right-click context menue has no paste button. Bug seems only to happy with firefox. Check with IE, Edge.

"Fehlerbehebungsmodus" safe mode? dont fix it. The error seems new. im shure i uses copy /paste on that side at least last wednesday.

Google lead me to "dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled" false it works with that setting. question: can i leave it with that setting or have to expect trouble on other sides?

is this a know bug? any idea what happen here?

I have tried so many things (changing scale/print preview settings, troubleshooting from the Firefox menu, checking for software/driver updates, turning the printer/computer (Windows 10 laptop - new) off, checking printer settings in some weird config menu in Firefox, changing the default font size/zoom (this changes how I see it but not how it's printed) ARGH!!!!!)

NOTHING WORKS. Where there is a forum or help tip, I've tried it. Where it has worked for others, it does not work for me. Chrome works fine. Printing to PDF works fine.

Aha, you say, it must be my printer (HP smartank 450)! Well the nice folk at HP have spent hours trying to fix this and have no clue. I am about to give up on Firefox. Can anyone help??

Hello,

I'm not able to get a download popup when I left click to download (anything) - only if I right click and select save file as i'm able to save it and download the file - something prevents the auto download from flowing properly.

if i run on safe mode there is no problem and i can download it - I did all of the explained here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems I also disabled all of the the add-ons or disabled them one by one but it didn't help to locate the problem - still can't download on regular mode.

I refreshed firefox, deleted & reinstalled it and with a new profile its the same as safe mode - no problem. I copied the files from the old profile to the new but the problem returns.

Any suggestions on how to locate the problem?
